I had a similar problem with Morrigan. Granted, any and all of the following things I cite as facts or impressions could be completely wrong, but from what I understand:

* Morrigan was supposed to be a teenager, or close to it. The writing seemed to fit this.
* Claudia Black has a mature, adult voice. Which is, you know, normal for a woman in her mid-late 30s.
* The face of Morrigan's character model seems like it tries to split the difference age wise.

So I kinda found the whole character was a little... off. But that's probably just me.

Well i didn't exactly find her off, i love Claudia Black's voice and Morrigan's char but...yeah it was kinda weird. She appeared too serious for 20 years or so, because the voice was deep.

Yet there are a lot of women over 40 with girly voices (Dolly Parton) and a lot of women under 30 with "man" voices xD

Varric: ...but then the bandit leader lunged past Hawke and stabbed me right in the heart!
"No!" shouted Hawke. "Hang on, Varric!"
And I looked up at Hawke, and with my last breath, I started to say, "Tell my brother..." but I was stopped by the blood in my throat. And I breathed my last.

Cassandra: *Icy stare*

Varric: What?

Cassandra: You died?

Varric: Hawke was really torn up about it.

Cassandra: Dwarf, for the last time, stop these ridiculous lies!

Varric: *Long -suffering sigh* FIne, fine. I didn't die. Really, you have no sense of the dramatic whatsoever.

Bioware confirmed Morrigan was in her late 20's early 30's.

This is what happens when you sleep. You miss discussions and Mary's awesome dialogues XD

Thanks for the comments guys (and Aimo approval?? YES!) On the topic of fanart, I've just been sketching him based on the concept art we've seen. Of course if we had more reference to go by then I'd be following that, but I've more or less just been drawing him how I imagine him in my head based on the snippits of personality we have. I have to say though, even if he is "uglier" I wouldn't mind in the slightest. His character is more intriguing to me than his looks. I do understand your feelings though Upsettingshorts. It's a concern of mine as well, but I can't help drawing him that way XD

I know I'm late to the party with this, but you guys have warmed me up to the crossbow idea. I can't really see him as anything but ranged. To me, he doesn't seem the type to get right into the fray but prefers to dish damage from a safe distance.

Would he really have been felled by a mere bandit in a dramatic retelling of his own fictional demise, I wonder...?

Varric: All hope seemed lost. Down to our last health poultice, completely out of lyrium--the mage whimpering on the fringe of battle, useless, our [DPS/Tank] unable to so much as lift [his/her] shield. Hawke and I did our best to keep the horde at bay, but then came the ogres.
Cass: Oh, no...!
Varric: And strapped to each of their mighty backs was a ballista--
Cass: --um--
Varric: --inlaid with a dozen flaming runes each--
Cass: ...
Varric: --and in the arms of each ogre were four impressively armed Hurlocks, who one by one loaded themselves into the ballistas, head first, swords thrust out before them--
Cass: :|
Varric: --I knew what they intended, of course, and knew that Hawke was their target. Heroically I thrust him aside, and he landed safely out of the range of the ballistas--
Cass: You.. threw [him/her]...?
Varric: And at once they fired. Flaming sword-wielding Hurlocks flew at me from all sides, and as you can imagine, impaled by quite a bit of sword, that battle was to be my last. On my last breath I passed on my sacred duty... "Hawke," I whispered, "tell my story."
Cass: I can't believe I was ever invested in this tall tale.
Varric: Nor can I.

I like to imagine that Cass starts by taking Varric fairly seriously, and doesn't notice for a while that he's messing with her. Then she learns. And loathes.

Damn. Now I expect Varric to narrate this every time there's a total party kill while the load/quit screen appears.

I have a question.

With the way the approval is now most members will stay with you even if they have a low approval. Now I guess Varric will also stay throughout the game, but if you ****** him off, will it affect the way he tells the story in some way?

I think this is part of the whole "Varric's narration changes depending on the events/your relationship with him" thing? I'd say this was true. :)
