I recall one of the Devs mentioning in a thread (forgot where it was) that characters would react more to the area you were in than in DAO, s/he used an example of the deep roads, and how a dwarven character might comment on something they recognize, maybe a small part of dwarven culture. Since Varric is not familiar with traditional dwarven culture at all this gives me some slight hope that there may be another dwarven companion in game. Yay! I'm not jumping to conclusions yet, but I hope it's a female.

Probably a warrior in that case, since Varric is a rogue.

*hopes that she'd be from Kal'Sharok in that case*

Even if he's from the surface, he should at least have something to say when he sees the ruins of his people.

like:

varric-"Ah, i remember my grandfather talking about a few of these being in the thaigs."

hawke-"what are they?"

varric-"the ruins of a brothel, prefer the ones of the surface myself. softer beds and bigger pillows *smirks*"

hawke-"..."

Where do we take it from that Varric is a smug trickster and jester anyway?

The exaggerated tale at the start might be a way to antagonise Cassandra and to just serve as a message of utmost distaste towards her.

My memory might be failing though, again.

I'm not sure where all this madness (i.e. awesomeness) originated from, but I have that kind of impression of Varric because Mary, IIRC, mentioned something about being glad to finally write a funny NPC that can crack jokes with the player. After all, she wrote Sten and Loghain last game around and, while both those fellows have some funny moments (Sten's awesome deadpan and Loghain's dry "Mr. Snarky Pants" moments in camp dialogue/banter), neither one of those were particularly "jokesters". She gets a break from the Serious Frowny-Face types this go-round. Good for her! Posted Image

I seem to remember Mary coming in and saying he's the sort of person you don't want to let talk, while you might be right it seems to suggest it's part of his personality in general.

I feel sort-of comfortable with revealing the project I've been working on.

SUPER VARRIC WORLD

Description:
The Archdemon has killed the last of the Grey Wardens!
You play as Varric; teamed with an oddly malformed nug called Nugshi!
Use Varric’s new powers and Nugshi’s ferocious nature through 5 (to be debated, I'm planning on branching paths twice) difficult levels!

Arm yourself with fantastic weapons:
Chest Hair!
Chest Hair protects Varric from damage, strengthing him on the adventure that will take him through the land of Ferelden.
The Chalice!
When drunk, Varric gains the ability to use his jacket to fly! Fly through the wonderous skies of Thedas, thus basking all in your chest hair glory!
Knives!
Who needs fireflowers when you've got knives? Throw knives at your enemies, stopping even the most ferocious foe in it's tracks!

Explore through the wonderous land of Ferelden in five distinct levels!
See the Korcari Wilds, Lake Calenhad and such in all it's 16-bit glory!

... and more!

Edit: None of this is concrete. It might change.

Varric once fought a roasted nug...

... and won.

Anyway, Mr. of Canada, that sounds like a fun project and I hope Mary Kirby gets to enjoy it.

While possible, it would require a whole new sprite of Varric carrying the crossbow (adding a lot of complications if the crossbow is too big). Add in the guitar player, you'd have more problems with either having huge guitar-players killing everything easily or being too tiny to even show the details.

Plus I'm a firm supporter of Varric being a dual-wielder.

Do want.

And please include crossbow that shoots MOAR crossbows that shoot electric guitar players... that shoot lightning.

Oh, I agree.  Totally support "Dual-Wield Crossbows!"   Posted Image  (need a new sig)

See the link to the youtube video back on about page 100.
Varric would so  favour crossbows he could "hide up his sleeves." Posted Image

Never give up, never surrender! /fellow Sigrun fanboy/girl.

Seriously, I really hope she turns up, even if it's just one of the cameos. Having her meet Varric could be interesting... He'd love to give her shiny new curios and 'explain' how topsiders do things I'm sure. <_<

I'm a fellow Sigrun fanboy/girl too. But her being in the game seems highly unlikely. Before she becomes based in Amaranthine she is in the deep roads, where you could meet her Legion-division. But that would have to happen within 2 years of Hawke fleeing Lothering.

Since Varric seems to be the type that likes telling storys, Do you think he might tell legends about the Dwarves? Or since he belongs to the surface caste, legend from the Free Marches?

Also do you think Varric will stay true to the storys? Or will he exaggerate the storys?

Come to think of it, maybe there is a possibility that Varric could be the new Leliana when it comes to tales and lore. Ugh, as much as I dislike using old companions to describe new ones.

Or maybe he doesn't like it at all, the narrating could be a one-time angry interrogation.

I doubt it, Mary Kirby said something like 'once Varric is talking you can't stop him' or something like that.
