That's actually a second layer of skin added to protect him incase his coat breaks, his chest is exposed due to the chest hair offering more protection though.

I'm not a fan of the pudgy Varric face, but he does look like a dwarf. Unfortunately, he also reminds me of the fat sidekick from Alan Wake. At least the chest hair stayed...

Edit: I find it strange that everyone is focusing so much on that one image of Varric. This is not just a Bioware game, it's a David Gaider/Mary Kirby/Sheryl Chee (and all you other wonderful writers) game, and what do they do best? Dialogue! Awesome, hilarious, touching, clever dialogue that we quote for ages afterwards. I'm sure Varric will be no exception, I'm hoping he'll be one of the stand out characters of DA2 in fact. That's what makes him appeal to me, even as a potential LI for one of my characters, rather than how he might look. (Oh and the chest hair of course, I mean, rawr).

Bioware rarely seem to get the casting of a main character wrong, I'm not worried about how awesome Varric will sound.

Personally, I doubt his voice will be high-pitched or nasally. He's the narrator after all. Both Duncan and Varel were narrators, and they had some of the best voices in the games. I don't think they'd give a character with such a hefty speaking role a weird/unsettling/unattractive voice.

I'm not going anywhere. I still think Varric is radsauce, I'm just no longer interested in a romance, probably. I remain openminded, however.

To further discussion on VA, I'd like to see Nick Tarabay from Spartacus playing Varric, his accent is exotic enough for Varric's suave and could nicely hint at exaggeration and possible betrayal.

Why are you talking like I'm one of them? I've been bigging up the V man the whole time, don't see what all the fuss is about in regards to one image of him looking like a Dwarf.

Yeah I much prefer Hawke's appearance to the default Warden. I also don't see what all the pirate girl hate is about, she looks attractive enough to me. Some of the lack of maturity i've seen in that regard makes me want to despair.

Flemeth has certainly changed, I wonder if we'll get an explanation (exagerration on the narrator's part/she took a new host) or whether it's just going to be put down to the new style? I liked how the Qunari was large and imposing but not OTT with it. Blur certainly know how to make a trailer, looking forward to seeing one with in-game footage though.
