Varric already has the biggest fanbase and the game hasn't even been released yet...

I wouldn't say biggest fanbase, the DA:O / ME character threads have bigger fanbases. Craziest fanbase however? Certainly.

We're making it really hard for them to NOT make a Varric romance happen, aren't we?

I sure as hell hope so.

I was talking about DA 2, but yes at this moment characters like Tali and Alistair are characters that have a pretty big fan base in ME and DA:O.

But they will plummet after they meet Varric Posted Image.

Naw! Alistair will visit Varric to get "manliness" tips. He'll then use Varric's advice to create a fanatical army of fans. With this army he will conquer the cheese making regions of Thedas, and he and Varric will get very rich selling this cheese for exorbitant prices.

Varric has nothing on Garrus, Liara, and Tali.

Well... Its hard to judge fanbases. Varric technically won't exist until March 8, 2011. And that is assuming there isn't any release delays. Though, all fan bases have to start somewhere.

Yet, you mean.

Nah, I very much doubt that our favorite dwarf will ever reach the level of popularity as any of those love interests. He has the potential to become the most well liked companion/NPC in DA2, but no matter the game love interests are almost always at the top of the popularity charts.

Who says Varric won't be a love interest?

If Varric is an atypical Dwarf then I'll give him a chance.

but no matter the game love interests are almost always at the top of the popularity charts.

Ehehe, almost, I lust after Kelly more than anyone.  But we can't have her! :crying:

With DA2 already trying to get that unique "this is Dragon Age" feeling. Having unsual love interets wouldn't hurt either really. It's not always about mere designs of races and how a Mage works in a fantasy setting, sometimes the simplest things can be the most important. =)

Well, Garrus was pretty darn popular before he became a love interest. So was Tali. 'Course, most of the fans for those characters were pushing for them to be LIs after ME...

I'm really hoping we get one or two unusual, or at least unlikely, love interests in DA2. Sure have one or two that conform to expectations, but seeing as Bioware seem to always find room for 4 or so it would be great to see them experiment with new ideas in that regard, make it more unique and surprising. That's one reason I hope Varric is a love interest, I don't think anyone but a few of us die hards in this thread truly believe he will be - even if they want him to be. Much like how many didn't think Thane would be in ME2 (despite it turning out that Bioware had designed him to be one haha).

Sadly if Varric -is- romancable then it even further reduces the chances I'll see a female Dwarf romance. :(

There is a stickied thread called "What We Know So Far". It chronicles every bit of info we get.

I think I'm in a position to say that the romances in DA2 are pretty unlike any we've done previously. Whether they're as different as you're hoping for, I can't really say. Depends on just what kind of freaky stuff you're into. ;)

Insofar as Varric goes, I'm reminded a bit of the obsession with Ser Cauthrien prior to Origin's release. You guys really can build a lot based on very little, can't you? It's impressive. Monumentally impressive.

Oh, so any freakiness in DA2 is a reflection of you! :D

Luke and Sheryl are the leading source of disturbing imagery in the writers' pit. David is merely a close third.

So you're more normal than them?

That speaks loads about them.

Normal? Normal? You could never use that word to describe anyone in this room.

Hooray for disturbing imagery, lack of normalcy, and unusual romantic escapades! Oh, and hooray for Mary Kirby and David Gaider!

Oh, and Varric too I suppose.

But you stop before the freaky gets out of hand. At a point like having some weird sex-ritual involving scarecrows or a threesome with nugs.

Which would make you comparatively normal, yes?
