Insofar as Varric goes, I'm reminded a bit of the obsession with Ser Cauthrien prior to Origin's release. You guys really can build a lot based on very little, can't you? It's impressive. Monumentally impressive.

Confirmed : Varric actually holds a very minor role in DA2 and is barely mentioned in passing outside a couple of cutscenes. :P

But you stop before the freaky gets out of hand. At a point like having some weird sex-ritual involving scarecrows or a threesome with nugs.

Which would make you comparatively normal, yes?

Hey, all I wanted for the "surprise me" options were: a crate, a nug, and a dwarf in drag.

Those scarecrows were totally Craig's doing.

Also, I never got my crate. Jerks.

That speaks loads about them.

Normal? Normal? You could never use that word to describe anyone in this room.

Well, you are writers.  A certain amount of insanity is a prerequisite for good writing.

Varric in drag sounds hot.

put a group of crazy, freaky people together in a room and what do you get?
An Epic video game! :wizard:<3

And I like freaky so bring it on!

Crates are too risque. All them obscene angles and come-hither slats... what about the children? WON'T SOMEONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN?

I'm really hoping we get one or two unusual, or at least unlikely, love interests in DA2. Sure have one or two that conform to expectations, but seeing as Bioware seem to always find room for 4 or so it would be great to see them experiment with new ideas in that regard, make it more unique and surprising.

I think I'm in a position to say that the romances in DA2 are pretty unlike any we've done previously. Whether they're as different as you're hoping for, I can't really say. Depends on just what kind of freaky stuff you're into. ;)

'Surprise me'.

This has made me intrigued, and both made me ravenous for more info and cemented my desire to go into DA2 as 'blind' as possible. I'd love to for a romance to completely surprise me, with no neon arrows pointing at the individual's head saying "love interest" for instance. Regardless I'm really glad to hear we can expect something quite different this time around, I can imagine the writers pit is quite an amusing/disturbing place to be while you're all writing the romance dialogue? ;P

And the dwarf in drag wasn't even a surprise me option, but a fiendishly disguised "female". My warden was in for a surprise.

*ponders what sexual acts can be done with a crate and scarecrows*

Ah, there were a dwarf and elf transvestite in the regular lineup. There was also a dwarf in drag who could appear as one of the surprise options.

I don't know about the scarecrows or the crate. I just think to myself, "What would be hilarious for the player to wind up with after a fade-to-black?" and leave the rest to your imagination. Luke actually writes the scene, mostly with puns, and Sheryl adds even more terrifying puns.

Your sneak peak into the DA writers' creative process for today.

Varric: You must spank her well, and after you are done with her, you may deal with her as you like... and then... spank me.

Everyone else: And me. And me too. And me.

Varric: Yes. Yes, you must give us all a good spanking.

(Everyone should know the movie)

Yeah, the dwarf in drag is one of the surprise me results.

Though I am a big fan of the nugs who avoid eye contact after the fact. So judgemental, it makes me cry.

And then Sheryl gleefully tells me what she has planned... at which point I am left uncharacteristially speechless, which of course makes her even more delighted.

And then Mary shakes her head and blushes. And Mike strides in and grabs something out of the Scorpion Box and informs us that he has a little idea which makes us groan in unison.

Do any of the chocolates contain marzipan? I'd rather take my chances sucking on the scorpion in that case.

No, there's a 75% chance at any time that the box contains mostly peanut butter cups, because I lurve them. Lurve. With ridiculous mispelling for emphasis. Otherwise, it usually has Kit-kat, Mars, or Coffee Crisp bars in it.

This is why fade to black then fade back to something random scenes are so fun.

Person A and Person B *kiss in bedroom*

*fade to black*

*fade back in* *Person A is lying on a couch on the roof of the Nutella factory while Person B is sitting in a crate*

Person A: "Huh... Did we just..."
Person B: *nods head*
Person A: "How did we..."
Person B: *shakes head*
Person A:  "What the heck just happend?"
Person B:  "You don't want to know."

Luke and Sheryl are the leading source of disturbing imagery in the writers' pit. David is merely a close third.

Oh Mary, you are SUCH a tease...being an ex-pat living down in the American deep south, I miss having Coffee Crisp available.

If it wasn't trademarked, it would be fun having the "How do you like your coffee?  Crisp!" line in the game :)
