Is it safe to assume that Hawke's first encounter with Varric is going to be in a brothel?

I sure hope so.  Would make for an interesting conversation.

I don't picture either of them actually using  brothels, ('tho Varric might "have an interest in one or two"...)

I don't think so. Unless it's a really, really classy brothel or he's visiting to "check up" on things.

Please tell me there's more hilariously disturbing things like that in DA2. The Pearl was the funniest part of Origins.

There might be. It is possible that Craig and I were put in charge of the brothel again. But I can't verify that.

Sweet...verification of a brothel in DA2.  Im sure this is certainly going to be Varric related ;)

Trying to do some math here (bear with me, it makes my head hurt)...

By my count, we've had every writer but one comment somewhere in this thread? I guess that just goes to show how awesome the power of Varric is...

Is Craig a writer or a world builder? I thought the mysterious 6th writer was female? Didn't Gaider say in one of the PAX chats that there are 6 people on the writing staff and 4 of them were female? When he was talking about the majority of the writing team actually being female contrary to popular opinion.

So that's David, Luke, Mary, Sheryl, Jennifer and one more.

Anyway clearly Varric fans are the best fans.

Daniel Erickson? I'm not sure if he's still working on TOR (he's Lead Writer on that), but he did work on DAO too.

What exactly does a technical designer do? I really know very little about game development.

Do we really know how posh he is exactly? Besides, medieval brothels were never "classy".

The pearl seemed pretty classy to me.

Well, I don't think he's too posh to go into a brothel. I mean, you can't run a spy network without getting your hands dirty. But I think he's suave enough to get enough action without paying for it. Not to mention, even if he wasn't he's still rich and everyone knows it. Considering the noble hunters I bet there's plenty of dwarf ladies who'd sleep with him just for that.

Point One: Mysterious 6th person was our Writing Department Intern Extraordinare, Tonia Laird. Who posted in the forums a few times, but did not get her Big Blue B tag added to her profile before she went back to school.

Point Two: Daniel is, indeed, still working on SWTOR.

Point Three: A technical designer assembles all the various and sundry assets from all the departments into something that resembles a game. Take a bunch of dialogue files, some level art, the creatures from character art, all the systems, throw them into a blender and puree until smooth. Or something like that.

That is different. It is their only way of getting out of poverty short of becoming a thug, Paragon or leaving.

So there are only five of you now? Which means that all of the writers have indeed shown up in Varric Threads 1.0 and 2.0.

Thanks for the clarification. Also for telling me what a technical designer does. "Technical designer" just sounds so vague.

I take that as a sign that dwarf ladies, like human ladies, are willing to use sex for monetary or social gain. Considering that wealthy surface dwarf families suffer the same infertility problems as the underground noble houses, who's to say the mother of an illegitimate son on the surface wouldn't receive monetary support and a status boost also? It makes sense.

I promise you that I will use only the classiest of animations on Varric.

None of this 'right_arm_gesture_other' business. Only the best for the dwarf.

Your initial post made it seem like sleeping for money was a dwarven trait. As a casteless you don't have much choice, you're not allowed to work.

And they're not as desperate for new blood since there isn't a big part of dwarves dying on the surface fighting darkspawn.

Ah. I meant it more like it was not unheard-of behavior for a dwarf. Not that it was a trait. Not moreso than it is for humans anyway.
