Watch this. I can't find the best part where he talks about his previous love interests, though.
WAIT, FOUND IT. I'll link it in a second.

Okay maybe a bit like that but less snobby and Stephen Fry-ish. Much as I love Stephen Fry.

Is Fable 2 worth playing, by the way?

I'll bite. (Sorry for the off-topic!)
When I first approached the Fable series, it was recently after the first one came out. It came with my special edition Xbox along with KOTOR and I enjoyed both of those extremely well (prefering KOTOR though), it was a fun distraction and the game's plot wasn't that bad. I never listened to the wild promises of Molyneux so I came into it with no expectations, got pleased and put the game down as one of those that I'd say I enjoyed very much.
Once I approached the second one, however... well, I listened to Molyneux. My expectations were outrageously high due to what he was saying about everything, this lead me to being very disappointed in the sequel compared to the first one (although I loved Reaver,
I enjoyed the first one more than the second but they were both fun games in their own right.
EDIT: You can also import your Fable 2 character into Fable 3, carrying all your plot decisions and such (SOUND FAMILIAR?)

It's fairly linear in the main quest line. There's lots of side quests that you can do, with opposing side quests. If it's important for you to play a female character, I'd go with Fable 2 over Fable 1. There's sex and marriage and some pretty humorous dialogue. You can own houses and rent them out, your appearance changes depending on how strong or magical you are, and also how good or evil you are.
I'd say it's worth playing at least once, if just to get your mind off of Dragon Age 2 mania for a while. (I've been playing Oblivion for that reason)

Hm I don't think I can even play Fable 2 since the only console of this generation I don't have access to is the 360. Lame! I could play 1.
Ok back to Varric time. Don't even joke about Michael Cera or David Schwimmer voicing Varric, bsbcaer. *dies a little on the inside*

My .02
Fable 1/Lost Chapters was a solid game, but #2 was a a flop IMO the infinite mana bar and poor ranged weapon interface makes it kind of crummy IMO. The story is quite short too compared to the first I thought. If it is cheap it might be worth your $$$$. I wouldn't pay over 25$ for it though.

Is it worth playing? Undoubtably. Is it everyone's cup of tea? Not quite.
It certainly didn't quite match the hype surrounding it, but at the same time it's much better than the backlash against it suggests. If you go into it without considering any marketing spiel (I recommend this for any game tbh, and actually like how passionate PM is about his games) then it's a good laugh and a lot of fun. There are some moments of genuine ingenuity and some brilliant (very British) humour, although it should be noted the humour also occasionally falls flat as well.
The third game is out at the end of October and has the potential to be the best in the series. It certainly wouldn't be a bad time to get a cheap version of 2, if you like it then 3 is just around the corner.
*moving back on-topic*
One thing that impresses me about the Fable series is how they cast it. They have a lot of big name actors (especially for 3, it's got a better cast than a lot of big budget films I could name), however they never seem to be there just for their name alone, and there seems a genuine push towards better dialogue and writing similar to how Bioware operates.
This all makes me wonder how DA2 will be cast, how many high profile actors and voice actors will turn up, and how they will perform. I like it when interviews with the actors on a game shows they are treating it seriously and not as a little side venture.
On this note I do wonder whether Varric will get a well known actor voicing him? He must have a large amount of dialogue, being both companion (and an early aquired one at that) and the narrator. Considering he is a Dwarf (albeit a surface Dwarf) he isn't restricted to British accents either, so it could be pretty much anyone. I'm still trying to think of someone who I could realistically imagine voicing him, but it's tricky, he seems to suit both suave, charming roguish voices and more experienced 'storytelling' voices (with smug and such).

I find it amusing how Lionhead hires famous british actors and comedians for their Fable series while the Bioware team hires famous Canadian / American actors for their Mass Effect series. I'm not forgetting about the famous roles in Dragon Age though, they had a lot of high profile British actors there too but... just saying.

From what we've seen so far, I suspect Varric is the Alistair of DA2. He seems to be in most of the Concept Art and has an important role in the plot (being the narrator) while probably being given plot armor for that reason. (Ex: Alistair was the only character that couldn't die or leave until the Landsmeet).
Hell, he also appears to be at Hawke's side in this concept art (assuming it's Varric.)

Who do we think could portray both aspects, my obvious choice would be Anthony Hopkins but who do we think would be a good choice given both established VA's and especially past VA's BioWare have used?

Incidentally while I wouldn't have him play Varric, I'd love to see Simon Pegg voice a character. In fact there are a bunch of British comics with great voices who have been known to act I'd love to see Bioware recruit for DA2.

The thing is, being the 'Alistair' of DA2 doesn't neccesarily mean he'll get a well known VA, sometimes a less known one will actually work better. Wasn't Alistair's VA a fairly well known voice actor but far from being a big name? Or Varric might get the Morrigan/Miranda treatment and get the celeb.
Steve Valentine isn't really big time celebrity but he's still relatively well know. Wasn't trying to say he'd get the Morrigan/Miranda treatment, just somebody that you'd be able to pick out of a crowd and say "Oh! I know that guy!".

That's a lot of achievements, I guess you've inverted a lot of time getting those.
Would you mind if I add you? BTW, I'm back. At least for a while.

The funny thing about that is that I was playing it not long after release, romancing Alistair, and my grandmother was over for some reason or another. She listened to him for a little while and went "Oh! OH! He's that guy from Crossing Jordan!" and then proceeded to basically fangirl over him while he gave my PC the rose. My anecdote of the day.Dave of Canada wrote...

When it comes to Varric's VA, however, I'm sort of hoping that he's not very well-known. I prefer not to have any lingering opinions of a character just because of the work the actor's done previously.

I would have to punch someone in the mouth if this happened. I don't even understand how he got his name mentioned here!
