I always said VAR (like... Car but with a V) -ICK.
Right, now I see a way to put it. I read it similarly, only moving the "r" from the end of the first syllable to the second (So it sounds more like Bar Rick).

That's how I pronounce it too. I always imagine it said with just a hiiint of a growl at the start, heavy on the VDave of Canada wrote...

I've always heard the "bar" or "car" rhyme in my head, so: "Var - rick", with both "r"s enunciated.
But I heard "VarEEka" when I saw it feminized, (still with the "bar/car" initial sound.)
[Edit: Oh, and Varrica ROCKS! Need new sig - "Varrica for LI in DA2!"]

Not for me. I can trill with the best of them, but "Varric" just doesn't roll off my tongue that way. A bit easier for "Varrica", but I still have to work at it. I guess I hear a more Norse or Slavic tone than that of a Romance language...ErichHartmann wrote...

I always thought it was more like Eric with a V (like Vu-Air-Ick) -- if that makes sense?

This Ah-murrican (american) says it Var (rhyming with Fair) ick. So unsophisticated, I know. :B
This American-Australian says it the same way. Though my Aussie husband is constantly reminding me that I say everything wrong.

I say it like Maric I suppose. And looking at a video in which Loghain says Maric's name, yes I do pronounce it like Maric but with a "V" instead of "M" and I'm not sure about the "a". Dammit...

Yeah, but is is Maric (with "air" in the middle") or Maric (with "arrrrrrr" in the middle)?
Are you accusing Maric of being a pirate?
And pretty sure Loghain says it as "Mair-ic" in the game.

Loghain can't even pronounce his best friend's name right.
The saviour Mary should be popping in any minute to clear this up ... I assume. *Assumptions are dangerous though*

Neither can his bastard child either, then. *points at video*
I assume IMO that's the correct way to say it and Varric is pronounced roughly the same.

Loghain switches a couple times. But this is the way I say it and dwarves have American/Canadian accents so THERE.
Yeah like that vvv

I used two different videos:
Loghain -
Alistair -
I spent way too much time on this instead of actually doing my phonetics homework.
