"Picking a theme-tune" discussions tend to get ugly.
Just like discussing pizza toppings.

And all the snow melted again.
I think I want to see Varric in a long furry and puffy coat and with a huge scarf, possibly grumpy because he has to wear all that. This was not a commission.

I'll do that for Draw Varric Thursday. I've been wanting to doodle different outfits for him. He will look extra short in giant puffy outerwear lol.

Oh my, I actually shaped ongoing things in the world?

I adore your art and will look forward to this Thursday then. Maybe it will snow again.

Yeppers. It should keep the thread alive between Varric-y factoids. I wonder if there is such a thing as the "tastiest flavor of crayon." Also, props for using crayon.

One thing I'm curious about... are surface dwarves more likely to produce offspring than their underground brethren? I know Varric isn't likely much different than the Orzammar Dwarves considering he's the first surface generation (I think?) but there's probably been entire families on the surface for generations.

If Varric is likely a first generation surface dwarf, does that truly mean the guys hundreds of years old or something? How long do Dwarves live anyhow?

I think the surface dwarves do got better chances, since you know no lava thing causing damage to them. I also wonder how does the merchant guild treat "lesser" dwarf houses. Are they the same kind of pricks like Orzammar houses are to casteless ones or what?

IIRC Mary said Varric's parents were the first of his family to leave. So you may be right about it not making a difference to his generation. Growing up in the sunshine probably did him some good though. :B

I meant first generation within his family.

Living underground means more competition for females. Living on the surface means a much greater chance of finding a mate, plus it's healthier all around. So in my convoluted mind surface dwarves have a higher rate of fertility than their underground counterparts through genetic diversification. /insane logic

It would make sense for surface dwarves to have better fertility rates. Living away from an active volcano can do nothing but good things for your health I'm sure. I know at least I never heard of a surface dwarf house in danger of dying out due to lack of children.

Without the caste system and volcanic fumes messing with their bodies, it seems like the surface caste does pretty well for themselves.

More awesome artworks...as usual Posted Image.

On the "Varric looks so good with glasses" subject: Do they even have glasses in the DA universe? I don't remember meeting a single person wearing some. Or is it that every person with bad eye-sight gets it fixed with magic..? Posted Image

Maric's grandfather, King Forgot-his-name-who-lost-Fereldan-to-the-Orlesians wore glasses, 'tis mentioned in both of the novels. I think they were of a dwarf design or some such.

From the way Mary talked about it, it didn't sound like they had any better luck with fertility than the underground dwarves.

Also I'm pretty sure the lava thing was a joke.

No little Varrics running around then? (Oh wow that was an uncomfortable train of thought.)

Although, it'd be funny if we find out he is actually a happily married family man. Doubtful, highly unlikely, (dare I say blasphemous) but... hilarious.

(With one word I have established the Church of Varric.)

I still doubt he is though. Not at the beginning, anyway. Lots can happen in 10 years.

I just imagine those horrible cysts that grow teeth and hair and have their own veins in them, ughhhhh. Seriously if you want to sleep or eat in the next 48 hours do not attempt to google what I have described.
