The problem is that not only is Isabela NOT an unattractive woman except by the standards of some bizarro world where everyone has to look like they're from a Victoria's Secret catalogue, but do you not hear what you are saying? That her worth is explicitly connected to her appearance and her sexuality (as in how she chooses to express it) and not her personality, which we know little of except for a single exchange in Origins. That she is only good when you're drunk for a quickie because you're such a cad it doesn't matter what you stick it in. That a love interest is worth their weight in how much they conform to arbitrary socially imposed standards of beauty and her lack of sexuality unless directly related to your character. Her personality, her actions, how she treats Hawke and how she fits in to the world means nothing because she's too ugly and sl*tty for you to romance her. Just... don't romance her. She deserves better anyway.

Yes, I daresay that women who are difficult to get are worth more as romantic partners than women who are easy to get. I mean is that really not just common sense?

Get over it already.
Lol, why do you have such a problem with my expressing my opinion on this? Yes, you disagree with me. I get it. But if you have nothing further to add other than to tell me to get over it, to go elsewhere, etc. why do you even bother responding?
I don't know.
You're not going anywhere with your complaining either. So, why keep posting negative things about a character that certainly won't change or won't get dropped from the game?

Morrigan and Zevran, both considered "easy lovers" but were extremely awesomesauce romances themselves because sex wasn't the core of the romance. If Isabella is the same, I don't see how she's "worth" less.

Because it gives the internet a reason other than porn to exist.

We're tragically off topic already so, whatever. I've found the best way to counter crap like that is to just BE that woman who doesn't give a nug's ass what you expect her to be. I get a lot of "calculating ****" even from people I'd consider my friends, and you'll have to take my solemn internet word that it's not because I'm actually mean.
You'll find that even the nicest people don't stop and second guess the source of their attitudes.
I will take you solemn internet word and nestle it on my bosom. <3

Also, everybody, dan isn't being a jerk, he's just being honest. So while most of our knee jerk reaction is to claw his eyes out, it's just the internet. You come across people with his outlook IRL a thousand times a day. Be cool, my lovelies.
Dan Savage says it nicely.
Thank you! I'm amazed at the vitriol I've gotten for what is really a pretty common opinion. But no, the link that you gave does not represent my position at all. I'm always much more attracted to the high quality hard to get girls for sex or relationships. The Isabelas of the world are merely what you go for when you want something now and don't have anything better going on.
But, alright, I'll stop derailing the thread. Sorry Varric.

Can i get a pass if it's just equal-opportunity eye-rolling at "unashamedly hedonistic, sexually expressive" characters of either gender?Sheryl Chee wrote...
I knew that would happen the minute people found out who she was. I expect some people to absolutely hate the idea of an unashamedly hedonistic, sexually expressive female.
There just isn't much appeal in getting unasked for reports on the temperature of someone's reproductive parts every 15 mins. In games this tends to get worse because often that's all the character ever talks about -- Zevran's banter could get like that and after a while the repetitive nature would come close to outweighting the funny.
I liked Isabela in DAO but that was not in the least because she's fairly low-key about it unless the player brought the matter up themselves. Hope she can remain this way in DA2. And if she can't then at least she doesn't get turned into one trick pony.

That's a good point. Bright light in the eyes is not that far fetched during an inquisition-style interrogation.

If you leave out all argument related to how she approaches sexuality there are still going to be lots of people that find her very unatractive as far as wanting to have her as a love interest in a video game goes. Yes, I'm well aware that I dont need to romance her. Yes, I still find her unattractive by the standards of is-a-female-LI-in-a-video-game. No, I don't actually judge real women by these standards. Yes, I do judge women in video games by these standards.
Please note the satirical comments I made a while back on Varric's chest hair. You should take this as seriously as I take his chest hair.
