A little off-topic-ish, but one of the dwarven merchants during the Dwarf Commoner Origin indicates that the Chantry can marry surface dwarves. It may imply that some surface dwarves are Andrastians.

And on-topic-ish: every time I eat a Lemington or wash my hands with coconut-scented soap, I think of Varric.

Some of them are Andrastians. Sort of. Surface dwarves are in a weird place for religion. They believe that The Stone will reject them -- if they believe in The Stone at all -- so that's no good. But they don't go to the Fade, so getting to The Maker after death might be sort of tricky. Many of them attend the Chantry enough to avoid making waves and blend in a bit, but surface dwarves generally don't see much point in being devout.

Ewwww.....I can't stand coconut. Must be a repellent.

Varric: Hmmm...the force is strong in this one. *thinks, then holds up coconut conditioner botle* This coconut is now diamonds! What do you have to say to that, eh?

Well, the Stone just kicked them from the dwarf-heaven or whatever, I think they just go with the flow. But I don't know... I mean, they don't act like the Stone is some kind of god, they say "the stone created us" the same way I could say "the sky is blue". Like it's just a minor fact of the circle of life.

I'm more of a fan of citrus scents. I love citrus but lately during citrus season my eyes get super irritated by the powdery stuff that comes off when peeling them. I can't peel citrus right now and it makes me sad. I'm glad this didn't develop until after I stopped doing citrus picking competitions.

Now I want some oranges. Why didn't I bring some with me from home?! Oh. right, eyes would go crazy. *sobs*

I'm betting that Varric is a worldly man, who would enjoy classical music along with his evening chalice of Montsimmard Red, but is open to...other influences ;)

And now that I think about it, it must be hard to a dwarf that believe in the Stone be banned from his city. I mean, now he'll have to live in a unknow place (some of them even believe they'll fall) where the most famous religion is aways talking about the Fade, a place where they can't go. *hugs Varric*

Varric doesn't need no stinking Andrastians, he has his very OWN religion, where he is god and wenches and wenchmen alike fall at his feet for the chance to comb his chesty mane!

Yeah, it is a bit depressing now that I think of it like that, Dhiro. But maybe that's why surface dwarves help each other out so much. There's no castes to worry about and no "stone-sense". Just fellow surface dwarves trying to make their mark on the world.

Oooh, wenchmen, I want to see one!

Sounds to me like the Surface Dwarves have the right idea, such beliefs only seem to lead to bad juju anyway.

Oh Maker, I wish I was creative enough to do a Varric or Hawke inspired version of "Hero of Canton".

Oh I mocked up a Hawke shaped version of the Hero of Canton aaaages ago in the Hawke thread (hence the reference to it in my sig) I'll try to find it. Good to see another Firefly/Jayne fan around. ;)

Edit: Found it! I went with Hawke due to it being easy to replace 'hero' with 'champion'. A Varric one would be awesome too, though.

He's fond of Bach's Cello suites.

If he were a food, he'd be Beef Bourguinon, or some sort of pot pie.

That.. sort of sucks.

Could he be a shephard's pie maybe? Though Beef Bauginon sounds quite tasty.

*goes off to YouTube to search for cello music*

I really have to find a gay god, the "so, remember that time when I said that you would go to hell for liking men? Yeah, I wasn't joking" think it's getting annoying. Live in a country where a giant part of the population is homophobic and Christian don't help me, either.

But enough of that, I'm getting off topic.

Surface dwarves pretty much come in two types: Live for the moment, or Unspeakably dour. The future does not really look bright from their point of view, so they either don't think about it, or dread it with the power of ten thousand suns.

Thank you for answering my question, Mary.

My teacher isn't very good, actually... he just make us translate words and I'm good in that (really good, if you ask me). But spelling? That's a no-no for me.
