Probably not. I don't know if he'd be very interested, frankly. I mean, maybe. It's always nice to see where you come from, but Varric seems about as attached to Dwarven culture as your average human.

In one of the concept arts, it does seem that the party goes into the Deep Roads, but maybe not to Orzammar. Maybe they're looking for the Tethras Thaig. Or some other dwarven treasure. Or maybe the concept art is misleading and they're not actually in the Deep Roads at all.

He isn't attached, but he's never had a chance to be. If he enters the Deep Roads and sees magnificent dwarven thaigs and the ruins of a once great people, he might become very attached. After all, what does surface dwarf culture offer him?

They are visiting the Shallow Path. Varric's map came loose and fell down a ravine; Hawke and Co. are forced to retrieve it, lest they be lost forever. None of them are very good with directions.

He just strikes me as someone who's adaptable and very comfortable where(ever) he is, without an existential longing to discover his roots or an unsettling pervasive sense of displacement.

I could be totally off-base, of course.

Maybe he's brought up being told that Orzammar is a bad bad place, after all, his family left nobility to become surface castes.

Orzammar in DA2?

Don't think so. Visiting the deep roads is almost a given though.

You know, I heard Varric was not born from a mortal mother. He was created when Chuck Norris tore off a clump of his chest hair and from it forged a dwarf like no other.

No.

He was created when Bruce Lee tore a clump of Chuck Norris' chest hair. Because it takes both win and awesome to make Varric.

No you're both wrong. Obviously he sprang, fully formed, from the chest of Tom Selleck.

Well according to Mary Kirby most surface dwarves feel like they dont belong anywhere so that could be depressing for them, and others like Varric life for the moment.

But even though Varric is a Surface Dwarf, I doubt that he will be out of place in Orzammar. I mean Varric knows everything important going on Kirkwall, and will strike at those wo can harm him or his brother before they can strike them. So yeah, he will do OK in Orzammar.

How would he know anyone in Orzammar? And if Orzammar is under Harrowmont rule they probably won't give two tosses about some surface dwarf, no matter how suave and handsome he is.

Anyway I am fairly sure we won't be seeing Orzammar in DA 2 (entrance is in Ferelden) and pretty sure the Deep Roads have been ruled out (though there is that one piece of concept art so don't quote me on that).

I'm not saying he will go to Orzammar, I'm just saying that he would survive the games those nobles play because of his knowledge to run a spynetwork. And the fact that he knows when and how to strike to protect his brother.

What good is spy network knowledge when all the people you are dealing with are unknowns outside of that network? He wouldn't know the nobles of Orzammar, much less know how to play "their games". He may be charismatic enough to get to know them fairly quickly and take some educated guesses at their motivations and what not but outside of Kirkwall, he'd be really outside his comfort zone.

That is true...
But how did he start his spynetwork in Kirkwall?
Maybe he can start it in a simmilair manner if it was in Orzammar, like bribeing some dusters to spy for him.

Now that I'm talking about Varric's spynetwork anyway allow me to ask some questions.

When did Varric decide to start a spynetwork? Or did he never decide it, like, did the Tethras family started a spynetwork in Kirkwall before Varric and his brother where born?

Who is in the spynetwork? Bartrands merchants? Some beggars who the are paid by the Tethras family to spy, or just some 'friends' from the Tavern. Or does it have something to do with Varric wench summoning abilitys...

Do you think Bartrand knows about Varric's spynetwork? I mean if the spy network was in the family to begin with then he could know. But if Varric started it himself... And if Bartrand doesn't know about it, why didn't Varric tell him? For his safety?

Or is this 'spynetwork' just some power of his chesthair we don't know about...

I would think, being a fairly cunning fellow, that Varric may already have some connections in Orzammar and contact with people who brave the deep roads. He is from a merchant family and many surface dwarves trade regularly with Orzammar.
