I doubt we'll see Orzammar in DA2. I'm curious as to what reason they will have to explore the Deep Roads, there is still so much about the plot we don't really know. A Qunari invasion hardly = Deep Roads day trip afterall. As for Varric, well from what we know of him it doesn't  sound like he'd be very interested in his heritage, but we aren't working off that much info. It's possible the storyteller part of him is interested, or maybe it is connected to his family in some other way. Lots of possibilities.

Regardless of how his reactions might be, the prospect of Varric facing the remnants of Traditional Dwarven Culture does pique my curiousity :3

Anyway, I just drew a quick doodle of an idea I had while working on some official sketch cards a while ago, of a hypothetical scenario:



"Time to choose, Master Tethras; Friend or family." says the evil mastermind-y person on the big chair.

(Captive dwarf may be Bartrand, an Uncle Tethras, or a cousin thrice removed, who knows?)

If it ever comes down to that though...which would he choose?

I'm sure he did, but I doubt that its a noble. A rich merchant, maybe.

I don't think that we will find ourselves in Orzammar (too far away from Free Marches), but I can see us experiencing some deep road action...

I'd love to see another dwarf companion (mostly because I love DA dwarves), one who hopeully does come from the stone, and see the reaction/interaction between him/her and V.

The Tethras family should still have contacts with Orzammar because it just makes sense if you're going to be the head of a large trading family/organization.

You know, if Darth Gaider could let Mary slip us something every now and then (not much, just a tidbit or two that Namedforthemoon could then use to figure everything out we would remain on Varricness, but that being said, we've done a DAMN good job keeping on topic for 370+ pages and one slip (particularly with spam) shouldn't be held against us. I know I was probably one of the ones taking it off topic and I'll try to keep things moving the right way

Do you think Bartrand knows about Varric's spynetwork? I mean if the spy network was in the family to begin with then he could know. But if Varric started it himself... And if Bartrand doesn't know about it, why didn't Varric tell him? For his safety?

Or is this 'spynetwork' just some power of his chesthair we don't know about...

Personally, I thought that the spy network was more of a family network rather than a personal one.  Bertrand (being the older brother) takes care of running the family business while V maintains the spy network to provide Bertrand with information and to make sure that big brother keeps his hands clean.  You have to keep ahead of other members of the Merchant's guild

As for what the network is, It would have to start with travelling merchants (similar to old Tegin and Sandal's adopted dad who Im blanking on right now) collecting information as they travel.  For those in cities (such as Kirkwall), it would have to be a combination of the licit and illicit with (to use an example from DA:A) information coming from both the smuggling element and merchants/guards/bartenders.  It would certainly need to have a working relationship with the local Thieves Guild, but I don't think that it would be part of the Thieves Guild (nor do I think the Thethras family would be running it), but that they would work hand in hand when the need arises

Well, if anyone could talk his way out of the situation, it would be V. First, he would convince here that HE needed to be sitting in the big chair.  Then he would tell Cass that there was no need for violence, and if she wanted to know the story of Hawke, all she needed to do was to ask

Varric chooses the Third Bianca Option.

Though, what he really needs is Bianca's twin sister so he can dual weild and take out both the knife-person and the knife-ear (see what I did there ) at the same time.

He doesn't need two it is Bianca we are talking about. It will ricochet around and kill both guards then pin mysterious person above the chair by her hood.

In regards to the picture, I hope Varric would choose his family member. Why? Because he knows Hawke, and he knows she can kick some serious butt and get herself out of that situation. His brother or uncle or cousin thrice removed, however... He needs to help them so they can survive. I think Hawke would want him to choose his family over her, for that reason.

Varric seems to be like Batman, always prepared with the 3rd route. He probably has that chair the villain is sitting on boobytrapped just for situation like that.

Who says Varric has to choose? He just chokes the thugs wielding the knives with his magnificient chesthair and shoots the mastermind-y person on the big chair in the face with Bianca.

It would turn out that Varric had actually brought out the thug on his right (a mixture of fine wine, dining and a lot of fun back at his place would do the trick) and so when he points Bianca at the guard holding Hawke and shoots him in the face unmentionables the Mastermind can only watch as the other guard lets the Dwarf go and strolls over to drape her arm around Varric who gives the Mastermind a satisfied smirk...

...Until he realises Lady Hawke is glaring daggers at him.

I decided to draw Varric today, being Thursday and all. I actually was going to draw him as he was telling a story about a building the party was passing, but got tired after finally sketching Varric. So I scanned it and opened Photoshop to color it.

After half an hour of reading tutorials written for *photographs* in black and white, I give up trying to color my image.

I could complain more, as I'm completely insensitive about how art is made, but I'll stop there, with the basics. Anyway, I uploaded my DVT image to BSN just to show why I'm not exactly a paid artist.

You might have more luck searching somewhere like Deviantart for photoshop coloring tutorials. But I'd actually recommend a different program for beginners. Maybe something like Artrage or that one Aimo's mentioned that I can't remember the name of.

Nice work Jackkel don't worry about photoshop, that program is a menace. It's best to learn with physical pen, paper and paint anyway.
