I followed the YouTube link and was not disappointed.

Ha... a while ago I said in-game varric didn't look dashing... even a bit ugly (as opposed to concept art Varric). I was referring to some stills taken after that live feed video. The first game-play shown. People were right, it was a bad angle and an odd expression.

But now I've seen better pictures. Even a dead on, expressionless closeup in a very recent magazine (forget the name, PC Gamer or Electronic gamer probably).

And he still really falls short (PUN!) of his concept art. He looks far more thuggish in-game. Not ugly mind you, but not fan girl squeal sexy either.

Actually I like his ingame look more then his concept art. Looks tougher and more fitting actually.

He must have pulled it back in to give the (other?) male LIs a chance. Note I didn't say he shaved it.

I think it's one of the few things that doesn't need the toolset to be done.

Meaning it will be made, no matter how long it takes.

I'm still pissed (well not pissed... slightly peeved) I got so chewed out for saying his in-game version was a good amount less attractive then his concept art. Fangirls screaming out the *** at me. Now it seems to be generally accepted.

I wonder if peoeple will keep depicting him as a sexy man beast in fan-art after game release.

It must have been the way you said it rather than what you said. We don't care if people don't think he's the hottest thing since sliced bread, if you voice your opinions civilly.

As to the fanart question, have you SEEN the internet? Ever?

I said something similar about a hundred pages back, actually. Something like, "The fanart seems to be much... sexier... than the ingame photos. I don't know what to make of this." Then someone pointed out that the fanart was based on the concept art, not the screenshots, and they had a point.

...would still want to look like his avatar over fangirl-squee inducing Varric though.  Rayin Cousland is pretty awesome.  Total Mary Sue.

It was the way you said it, and it isn't a universally accepted fact that he isn't as attractive as his concept art. From what I can tell most who don't think he is as attractive as said art still think he looks pretty good in game, a far stretch from the early picture we had of him where a lot of people were put off.

So... yeah, don't expect to stop seeing sexy Dwarf beast fan art around here long after the game is released.

Personally the only reason I genuinely find the Talimancers vaguely creepy is that Tali worships at Shepard's feet, and basically has a schoolgirl crush on ManShep.  The implications of fans who really respond to that kind of relationship in the context of a videogame bother me far more (which is to say, it bothers me slightly as opposed to not at all) than the character of Tali herself.

My Shepard, well, it's more accurate in this case to say "me" thinks of Tali is something closer to a little sister.  She's cool, and I really like her, but not in that way.  I'd rather set her up with some other guy I respect, like Kal Reagor, than take advantage of her - which is how I felt the whole ME2 romance plot played out.

It wasn't just the way I said it (although I'm sure that was part of it as I said he would be far less popular with the fangirls if he was unnattractive... but *gasp* apparently people on these forums are above such petty things like looks! Or rather claim to be and get offended of being accused of such.)

No, being shortly after the live-video, people still refused to accept his ingame model was unnattractive or at least not AS attractive. He was still sexy, it was just a bad camera angle and a wierd expression <_

Well lets hope it's not like Sten. Everyone LOVED him before release. After release people called him ugly and didn't like his personality. I liked Sten... but many did not.

NO!

I doubt Varric will be like Sten. Just in concept he's awesome. It would be hard to make that go wrong. In concept Sten was a jerk, so he was easier to make, well, a jerk.

And even though his ingame model ain't super sexy, it's still pretty good imo.

You know, I never really got that far in the Tali romance partly for that reason...while I thought of her as hot in ME1, I just didn't really get the relationship type of vibe from her character in ME2 (even though she was more developed as a character in the second game).  The other part of the reson was I was trying to do it on my second playthrough and I didn't find it as fulfilling to do a second playthrough with ME2 than the first. 

I generally play games in a similar way to you (an exaggerated version of myself) unless Im trying to get all the achievements.  The way that V's personality has been provided to us by Mary and others, he's someone I can certainly see having a long term bromance with (moreso than Alistair)...well, that, and the bromance gets me closer to Bianca!
