Is that a CALLA PLEASE TO BE MAKING A GIF call? Because I heard it as one!

Calla, would you in your infinite wisdom and technological expertise (compared to me) please make a GIF of Varric running?

lol...has Meg (can't refer to him as Fenris) taken over the derpiness from Carver? :)

Lol, I wanted to make sure one could tell he's plucking hence the squinting and tongue out. Though I don't think I do either of those things when plucking... Probably the derpiness indeed !

Heh, I just now notice from Calls's gif that Varric only stealths when he's in the smoke screen thing.

Okay, that tube thing that's hanging low on his back... Remember we were speculating about it, oh, some 100 pages ago... I'm guessing it's for holding bolts for Bianca.

Maybe it containts scrolls? I dunno what could be written on it, maybe instructions for his spies? Or it holds some maps, or a story he has written down?

That said, why not go to the Varric thread and ask Mary? You might get lucky.

If I may interrupt a moment, on the subject of Varric as an "unreliable narrator":

To sum up, is it known whether this decision serves a clear purpose? I am not interested in what any such purpose might be, the game would reveal that eventually, only if it exists or not.

But if he's immidiately called for his BS then what's the point?

It establishs both the verbal game he and cassandra are playing and the nature of hawkes plot. She (and we) knows he's not being entirely forthcoming, and he (and we) knows he needs to be at least a little subtle

But again, what is the purpose of this? It exists to exist.

According to his write up, he's the guy you go to when you want people to know about your great deeds and such. I assume he exaggerates stories because people enjoy hearing about Hawke mowing through darkspawn.

Assuming there's more than one, is he also forgetful? Or... simple?

This is akin to someone wanting the writers to tell them why an Orlesian bard was in the Lothering chantry prior to DA:O coming out.

Not exactly. To stick with the example, I am asking if the story justifies her being there, not how it justifies it. It did, as it turned out.

The purpose is that you as the player can see what consequences your decisions bring to the game right away, versus having to wait till the end of the game, like in Origins. In Origins you had to wait for the epilogue to see how your decisions played out for Ferelden's future.

Oh, are you talking about Varric's personality as an unreliable narrator? Like, why doesn't he tell the story truthfully the first time?

Because, that's not Varric's personality. He embellishes things to make legends. He adds flash, he adds bling. Bling. Bling-bling! He makes or breaks legends... Didn't you read his character profile on the main website?

That has absolutely nothing to do with his blatantly exaggerating the story.

Thank you.

And I have to add: Lookit him go! I think I'll be playing Varric instead of Hawke in this game.

Wow, good catch with the smoke stealth thing. I would have never picked up on that if not for the gif and the comment. Very cool!

I don't get all this fuss about his running animation. That's how dwarfs typically run in video games... like they have short stubby legs... cause they do.

I swear, if there was an animation of Varric paging through the daily newspaper you would have a chorus of "so cute!" "awwww" "*drools*".
