Damn, I imagine if Meg/Fenris is confirmed to be NOT an LI while Varric IS an LI... There will be blood.

...Sort of.
...Okay...
Not really. Would it really be a huge spoiler to say officially that someone is an LI? I assume that by now, the romance plots are established and voiced and most the dynamics are finished. So what would be the big deal in telling us?

I wonder if any of those journalists that got to play the game noticed any sort of dynamic between Hawke and Varric, and if they'll write about it. I hope so. I need some small clue.
Possibly, we'll probably get an avalanche of information after Christmas when the next issues of all those magazines go out.
I'm not really holding out for any new info on DA 2 during the holiday season though but maybe if we pray to the Maker/Creators/Ancestors enough then the writing team may bless us with some sort of holiday gift.
According to my Bioware-watch.. we should see some devs on the forums in about. .5 or 6 hours. Not that I actively pay attention to when they read/post or anything..

Hm, I'd suggest OzGameshop but apparently they only ship to Australia/New Zealand. You could try play-asia.com, they ship every where if I recall.

Gaider wrote a lot of characters in Origins that weren't LIs. And there's no reason that Fenris and Varric can't both be LIs, we just haven't seen all the other companions yet so.. maybe they both can't be but with the information we have so far, we can't rule anything out. Yet.
I am going to get so many tomatoes in my head...David Gaider wrote 3 LIs (Morri, Alistair, Zevran) for DA among the other chars (which were pretty important - Shale).
With Hawke being a human, there must be a human LI as well...there always is! Even for commander Shepard...So either Fenris or Varric are out that way...
I think Varric wasn't initally an LI (he might be one now) considering the love for dwarfs wasn't too high before...and seeing how dwarfs looked in DA it's no wonder. As i said before, why would your lover/friend talk about you to Cassandra? In reality your life partner won't say everything about you to anyone...maybe only to the police...
Now - tomatoes!
PS: how do children of drawfsxhumans look like? cause we know that children of humansxelves look like humans...

EDIT:
Unless it's for the lulz...imagine the hilarity of Cassandra going "TOO MUCH INFO!!" whenever Varric gets nostalgic and descriptive about his courting adventures heheankuu wrote...

Well if he wasn't an LI before then he isn't one now. That would be an incredibly radical change. It's highly doubtfull they said to themselves. Hey look, people on the forum like Varric! Lets make him an LI! First off we're a small population and a very poor representation of the masses. And frankly we still don't know much about him. Like whose to say he isn't in the slave trade? Whose to say he won't backstab you? Those are just two things that would dramatically reduce fanbase.

EVERYONE is expecting Fenris to be a love interest, purely because he is a male Elf who isn't horribly unattractive or old. I'd love to see them subvert these expectations, and not just because 'they can' but because from everything we have been told (and his position as narrator) Varric would be a fantastic romance option to explore. Not to mention I'm certain most people would try him in the end, Bioware games certainly aren't dating sims but I think a lot of people who play their games want to explore everything they can - I even know straight guys who went through the Zevran romance as a male Warden for that reason. Romancing the Dwarf (so to speak) is a lot less radical than that.
Lastly, I think Bioware would actually be getting in ahead of the inevitable 'Dwarf's are sexy' rush that is going to come with the Hobbit's release. Peter Jackson has been quoted saying he has cast some of them in controversial ways (Thorin for example) because he see's no reason why a Dwarf character can't be seen in the same way as Aragorn and Legolas. Presuming they pull that off, and considering the impact those films are liable to have, I can see the public image of Dwarves changing somewhat.
Of course having one of the romances match a fad that could be caused by a film not released until long after the game isn't going to sell copies, but I don't think one romance option in a Bioware game is ever going to sell many copies.
Anyway that's just my (more serious than 'the chesthair!!11') opinion, I'm aware there is a lot going against Varric being a love interest, I think most of us have always known that, but that doesn't stop us hoping for it to happen - because you just never know with Bioware (looks at Garrus, and even Thane).

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm not supporting a Varric romance purely out of some fanboyish squee attack that everyone I find interesting has to have a sex scene, rather I think it would be a brave, bold and fun change to the status quo for Bioware games if they made him one.

Well put, Apollo. Can't say it better myself.
DA:O was the first game that made me RPed as dwarves seriously, because for the first time (for me, at least) they are allowed to take centrestage in a story in a meaningful way rather than the stereotypical side-kick or comic relief role, and that the race's lore were written with depth rather than as just a footnote in a fantasy world; The story how Aeducan became a Paragon, the horror of Golem-creation, the tenacity of Dwarves to soldier on despite their dwindling numbers to defend their home, the idea of Kal-Sharok being Pegasus to Orzammar's Galactica--- these are intriguing to me.
So in DA:2, where the PC's race has already been determined, it's my hope that dwarves are still allowed to shine as complex characters, such as Varric. If he's an LI, SUPERRIFIC because it's very much unconventional and would put pre-conceived notions and biases of some players to the test in a safe, virtual field (i.e. S/he's too [short/tall] [old/young] [evil/good] for him/her, etc.)...and perhaps this can open some minds as well. But if he's not, NO BIGGIE, I hope it's a well-depicted platonic relationship/teeth-gnashing rivalry with Hawke regardless of gender.
Considering that we know nothing about Varric other than the bits of cookies dropped by Mary, David, and the things we see from the videos, any speculation and discussion is game. Because at this point, he's still a blank slate and any assumptions is pretty much that, assumptions. So rather than try to dismiss opinions that aren't your cup of tea, chillax and enjoy the casual and serious musings as well as the LOLCHESTHAIRLOL for what they are...people getting excited over a character they're looking forward to meet in March'11.
Regardless, kudos to the devs who created this unique character, to have inspired so much excitement way before D-Day.
EDIT: I forgot, YAY 400 PAGES! For a character thread running on a handful of hardcore dwarfies, I'm amazed it has reached this far

I have my doubts as to whether he's actually romanceable but it isn't because I think Mary couldn't write a romance. Now, whether she'd *want* to write one is another story entirely, but I think if she was interested she'd do juuuust fine. After all, we don't really know how they assign those things. We know Sheryl really wanted to write Isabela, and I assume it's because of her character and not her LI status. Perhaps David just enjoys writing romances, or the characters he wanted to write (because of their attributes) all happened to be LIs?
And hey, we already have a female tank and a 2h elf warrior, why not a dwarf LI? This game seems like one for slightly unconventional character choices.

If he isn't, I think that would be a beautiful way for the team to answer the issue. He plays hard to get into the very end, but has a soft spot in his heart for her without him telling. Either to protect her or for some other reason.
Then again, I'm a sucker for unfulfilled romances and what-could-bes that are hinted at.

I <3 so much what they did with dwarves in the Dragon Age setting, and look forward to Varric in March also.

Boy needs to read some Jane Austen then. Everyone always gets married and lives in a huge mansion afterwards.
