Hmmmm, that would be pretty tough to write for. I dunno, I was under the impression he was the narriator for only part of the story, then time would kind of "catch up".

I would imagine he would talk VERY diffrently about his LI then his friend.

Not impossible though.

Ironic considering I just suggested someone would shave their head and glue it on their chest if Varric died... and I actually got serious "we're more mature then that!" "it's not JUST about the chesthair" as answers.

I was freaking kidding. No one would be that nuts! At most some people would cry if he died.

EDIT: Holy c*** people actually took offense to that clearly ridiculous statement. Lol, maybe you guys do take it a bit to seriously.

Maybe if you try something actually funny, next time. :D

Made Yuki giggle even when she took offense. Lol, it is a petty funny image. Def a meg moment as someone pointed out.

Ok, I officially apologize. I thought the statement sooooo off the wall no one would take offense. C'mon! Not even Tali fans are that crazy!

Yep. Not only that, but Varric's personality as a whole. I want to see what he do when we get intimate. Alistair gets adorkable, Zevran and Morrigan have a little of ANGST and Leliana just get, ah, let's not talk about it.

I second this. It would be absolutely hilarious to have the narrator totally in love with Hawke, and while he's telling Cassandra all about him/her, (Where Hawke is actually in action during his narration) the grey skies open up, rainbows and sparklies shine down around Hawke, birds start twittering love songs, and--

"What the **** are you talking about, dwarf? 'Rainbows?' 'Love songs?' 'Sparklies?' That's bull**** and you know it. Stop making up garbage and tell me the truth!" Cassandra snorted and glared down at the dwarf.

"But I AM telling you the truth! She was amazing..." Varric stared off, a dreamy expression crawled across his face as he remembered his Lady Hawke, slaying mercenaries by the dozens in a single fell swoop.

There's some serious comedic potential as well as other stuff that would just be... Really fun. :wizard:

Hmm, I don't really see Varric as the lovely-dovely type. I think he's like "my girl is awesome, what's more there's to tell?", so I don't think it would change the dialogue -much-. Still, it would be funny to see Varric being all dreamy about Lady Hawke :D

It's always flattering as the PC to see the other characters gush about YOU for a change.

Yes, especially Alistair. It's nice to see Zevran and Leliana saying how awesome our Warden was, but Alistair was just... well, Alistair. Morrigan had her way to flatter the Warden too, but it was more sexual and, ahm, awkard.

That rose conversation still bowls me over every time, I love it. Not just because it's cute and romantic but because it really made my character feel like she mattered to someone (and I felt a general disconnect from my own character throughout most of the game so that was kinda special).

I'm sure Varric would have even better ideas of how to win Hawke over, what with his experience and all.

Alistair was insecure, that's why he needed his girlfriend to do all the flattering. I doubt Varric is like that. But what I thought would be funny is Hawke is fighting mercenaries in a dark, grey clouded sky where everything bleak, but as Varric is talking about her (or him) the clouds part, rainbows shine down... Combat breaks for a moment while people are looking around going "Eh? WTF is going on here?" "I dunno..." "*shrug*" battle continues and then Cassandra breaks it up with her snort of derision. Anyhoo....

Do you think it's fair to say this early that Varric is the lead male of DA2? I mean, that's not bad credence that he may be an LI. In the past few Bioware games at least, the lead male always tends to have a romance open to the opposite gender.

Well, he was the first male to be revealed as a companion (I mean besides Carver, who everyone thought got killed in the beginning of the game and wrote off, anyway)... But does that really mean anything? Maybe he was revealed first because there was already so much information about him here on the forums.

It could be, yes. By far he's probably the most important character besides Hawke. He tells the story and all. Of course, it's possible that the "real" male lead only appear in the end, but still...

How did it go for Mass Effect reveals? Were the LI's revealed first? What about DA:O? (I wasn't on the forums back then, but I was looking at the website every once in a while before the game came out, but I didn't keep track of character reveals then, I didn't know it was possible to have romances in games.)

Very good point, but bioware is also doing something really new with Varric. Never before in a bioware game has a character also been narriator. Hey MAY be the lead male (I assume you mean akin to Carth and Alistair right?) but he also may be the guiding voice for a large chunk if not most or even ALL of the story.

Even if he is the lead male companion... he would be dramatically diffrent then Carth and Alistair.

Generally the really important characters are announced first. Alistair, Morrigan, Carth, Kaiden, Ashley, ect. From that point onward it's anyones guess, with the "hidden/special" companions like Loghain or Legion being alltogether not announced. Thats how I remember it at least.

There are exceptions. And I wouldn't say anything is locked in.

LI or not Varric is an important character due to his unique role. Not much can be guessed from that.

Boy, I hope so. Carth was all... Aggressive and boy scout, and Alistair was great with his dry humor but he was a bit... How do I put it... Well, just insecure, I guess, though there's more to it than that. I can't really put my finger on it.

One of the preview articles did state that Varric is Hawke's closest friend. I assume that they played the male Hawke.

Hmm, probably not the word you're looking for, but sometimes Alistair striked me as a little bit needy.

I didn't mean personality wise. I meant role wise. He's the narriator and a companion. Thats a pretty big deal.

But your right, personality wise he is also very diffrent. I get what your saying about Alistair. He's insecure, tragic, and lost. Varric is the opposit.

PS- Best friend/closest companion and LI seem to go hand in hand in bioware games. If your a guy Alistair/Carth was your closest friend and longest ally. A LI if you were a woman.

Varric fits many aspects of the cliche' bioware LI but at the same time also departs from it.

The most important characters of the party tend to be romance options. And you have to recruit them.
Carth & Bastila in KOTOR.
Kaidan, Ashley, and Liara in ME1.
Alistair and Morrigan in DA:O.
Jacob & Miranda in ME2.
Isabela in DA2.

They tend to be introduced fairly early in the game.
And if they ever die or depart, it's near the end of the game.

Was Zevran a big surprise, then, since he showed up a few quests later and tried to kill you, and then he wants to boink your brains out?

Zevran's different, because you don't have to recruit him. From the looks of it, you have to recruit Varric.
