Mmm... Bartolomeo, I think his name was.

Bartolomeo d'Alviano  I said this before and one of the devs (i think Mary) pin pointed that it's a reference to something else not to him. (Shakespeare?)

Ah, yes, "tired, worn out Mass Effect meme" -- yeah, no, too easy.

Please remove yourself if you don't have anything to add to the thread. His ~chest hair~ isn't the only reason we're interested in having him as an LI for Lady Hawke.

I just found that emoticon and had the burning desire to use it. With that said, he does seem like an interesting character to me. Granted, we (or at least I) know very little about him except what's on his character page and that he's narrating to Cassandra. But I do think it would be nice to have a dwarf love interest for Dragon Age 2. I really liked the dwarf storylines in Dragon Age: Origins, particularly the noble because you got exposed to dwarven politics and traditions. Dwarves usually get the short end of the stick in fantasy romances, though, so it'd be nice to have a dwarf as a major LI.

Haha.  I'd like to see a conversation between Varric and the Turian councilor.  Based off of the description of Varric and the brief scene of him talking in the Rise to Power trailer, a war of words between them would be epic.

I believe that Mary took the name from "Taming of the Shrew."  Interesting to note, however, that Bianca was also a character in "Othello".

Im glad that she decided on the classier inspiration of Shakespeare rather than claiming it came from the anatomically correct love doll of "Lars and the Real Girl" Posted Image

Yeah, there's a lot more information in the first Varric thread, which I believe is in the OP. I'm sorry if I came off as snappish. I'm just so tired of people assuming we're just in it for Varric's luxurious chest hair.

No worries!  :)  I'm new to the Bioware forums, so I'm just learning about memes like the Turian councilor, which you all are probably sick of by now.  I actually like Varric's hairstyle too.  He's got that neat ponytail bun thingy, which I don't know what it's called.  Plus I like his crossbow Bianca.  It reminds me of Jayne Cobb and his gun Vera from Firefly.  I Posted Image Firefly.

This conjured an image of fans *literally* being swallowed by Varric's chest hair in my mind.

My boyfriend doesnt understand the reason why people are so obsessed with Varric either.
I tried explaining to him, but he just didn't get it. I like Varric more for his personality and dashing charm than anything.

I am actually still kinda sad thread 1.0 was shut down... Everything seemed to have made more sense back there... And the devs seemed nicer at the time... But at least we at 2.0 have attracted quite a number of devs down here as well...

Proof is here

@Ramus This is awesome btw XD I laughed everytime I hear "Ah yes, Posted ImageREAPERSPosted Image!

@Leonia42 If you ask Dave (of Canada) and patiently wade through the last days of 1.0, you will see that "some" fans have already been swallowed by chest hair.

@DalishAssassin Yep, Mary's "tidbits" of Varric personality is VERY intriguing...

So yeah, whether he's romanceable or not, I just want confirmation......................................................

I...I can't believe I missed that ref. The firefly fan in me is sad T_T

Anyway, it's been a loooong day, so I treated myself to a Varric-themed sketch prior to bedtime. Dedicated to those who wish Varric to be an LI (but even if he isn't, he'll still be an awesome companion. Take heart, friends!)

Imagine the POV be that of Hawke's (of either gender) or some lucky Tavern Wench/Wench-Boy or something ^o^

Oh no now I'm going to have to scour the internet for the male equivalent of "wench."

I can just picture him saying "Come to bed, dear. *wink*"

Does his book have "Some book" written on it? LOL.

Turian Councilor versus the Dragon Age Universe

Varric: Hawke cut the ogre clean in half, using only a single sheet of paper that she'd salvaged from Lothering before it burned. The darkspawn horde closed in around her, and it looked pretty grim... until a dragon dropped out of the sky and started clearing away the darkspawn with her firey breath--

Councilor: Dragons? You don't seriously expect us to believe that nonsense?

Flemeth: You are expected to do nothing, least of all believe.

Councilor: Ah, yes. "Flemeth." We have dismissed that claim.

Varric: You're getting awfully tense there, Chuckles. Have a seat! I'll order you a drink. Nobody should listen to a story like this sober.

Councilor: Do you think this is a joke, Mister Tethras? The council does not find your attitude amusing.

Isabela: You see? This is what lack of sex does to a person. Tragic, really.

Varric: I like the part where Chuckles keeps referring to himself as a "council."

Isabela: Well, maybe he's conferring with what's inside his trousers.

Councilor: I think we've heard more than enough.

Flemeth: "Be always aware." ...or is it "oblivious"? I can never remember.

Varric: Are you sure? I haven't even gotten to the part where Hawke taught the Archdemon the True Meaning of Friendship yet. No? Oh well.

December 27th is the new Christmas! This line, in particular, made me almost choke on my own laughter. It hurt, but I like to think it was worth it, hahahah.

The image of the Turian councilor consulting the contents of his pants on matters of governance is probably the best mental image I've had in quite some time.

Who wrote Isabela? I wish to give them my thanks. I just know shes going to be my favorite companion just like I knew Leliana would be in Origins the moment she was announced.
