Incidentally, happy holidays, merry x-mas, reasonably non-sober new year, etc. to the Varric thread!

I only wish the Hawke could use Bianca. Does she have a twin sister?

You too, Mary!
Wait a moment...
reasonably non-sober new year
Why did you have to bring reason into this? Where's the fun in that?

Everybody will date the pretty boy or something, Bioware games have always had this sort of mold where you can immediately say somebody is a romance option by how they look. Why not? It appeals to the masses and it's awesome for it to always be successful, though a breath of fresh air is always welcomed from time to time.
Garrus surprised me by how well received he was, I'd like for Varric to be the "unusual" romance option for the Dragon Age series. Dwarves are also put down in fantasy as comic relief, personally I'd like to see that change.

For instance, if you put what we know of Varric's history and personality on a human or an elf, would there be any doubt towards his being an LI or not?
EDIT: Lmfaoisjdfa Heretical. I just snuffled on my soda.

I think it's fair to say that - from what we've heard from Mary - Varric is going to be funny, but definitely not the comic relief.
Oh, I understand that. I can respect a character who is funny, comic relief even, if it's part of his character and not a forced trope on the guy because he's a dwarf. Oghren's humor for example was very... fantasy dwarfish stereotype, from what we know on though Varric's humor would work with anybody.

People wouldn't be doubting it, we'd have a Fenris-esque thread here.

If Varric professed that he was attracted to Hawke, would they turn him down? Why? Because he's a dwarf? It just bothers me that he's getting so much flak for being a dwarf, when he'd be welcomed with open arms (while squealing and bouncing up and down and proclamations of love) if he was a human.

I'm curious if they will continue Hawke into the third game. It sounds like Varric & Cassandra are intended to be in it, I wonder if it will continue Hawke's story as well. If Varric isn't an LI in this one, he maybe an LI in the next ala Garrus.

Anyway. That's exactly why I'd want him to be an LI. I'm all for the unusual, and would love BW even more for trying something different. I love them for adding Garrus as an LI and whenever people start complaining about bestiality or whatever, I just shrug and say "He's still an LI no matter how much it bothers you." Varric is just a short, handsome man. I don't see the big deal.
If he's not an LI, well, we're still left with an awesome character.

True, considering he hasn't even been announced as LI or not. But I like to keep hope as the main entree at my dinner table.

@EveryoneElseOnThisShip See? We appreciate Varric as a character... Why do people think we're the Talimancers of Chest hair? (no offense to Talimancers; I enjoy Tali a lot but the Rule 34 is icky)

I guess the question would be, how are you not like Talimancers? There's a character that you find attractive and desire to romance. I mean, there was no Tali porn before ME 1 came out.

How would you guys react if it was confirmed that he was, in fact, an LI?

I'd be happy for the people who want to romance him. I might romance him on a second or third playthrough to see how Mary handles a romance. As I recall, that's not her thing.

I'd consider making my second Hawke a female if I loved Varric's character. I'm sure he'll be an awesome friend / companion to my Male Hawke (provided he doesn't betray me or something), I'd like to see how that would be on the other side of the fence. Mary is also one of my favorite writers so I'd like to see her work.
