Ditto. The fastest way for my friends to annoy me is to pretend to probe around my room. One has learned this lesson... particularly well.

For some reason I'm inclined to think that Varric is actually summoning science to help him with whatever has shocked him. As a surface dwarf, finding solace in the rational search for more questions seems oddly fitting.

Finishing "act one" of the game story of Legend of Varric, expect a very long post. This is part one, I'll be taking a shower and post another soon.

The sun shined brightly in Varric's eyes, blinding him as he left the tavern following the quest giver. The town was exactly the same as he left it, though hours had passed inside the tavern where Varric was listening to the man ramble. Varric stopped in his tracks and waited for the quest giver to stop, he turned to look at Varric to find a look of anger in his eyes.

"Look, I don't even know you. You haven't even explained to me what quest I've somehow accepted and now you're leading me somewhere, in my game where I'm the party leader, without teling me your name." Varric demanded, the man liked it when Varric was being demanding in the inn but his face grimaced this time, a look of disgust before continuing to walk away from Varric.

"Wait a minute!" Varric cried out, running towards the man who kept moving away from Varric. Varric sighed as he finally caught up to the man who didn't stop walking, furious at being ignored Varric pushed the man to the floor to try and get an answer from him. The man looked furiously at Varric but didn't say a word. That's when Varric realized what he forgot to do, he didn't press the talk button.

After much apologizing through their trip out of town and allowing the man to talk whenever he pleased. He handed Varric a worn out painting of a man, a woman, and a little child. "My name is Sebastian, that's my family. Me with my little daughter and her mother." said the man, "she was a beautiful woman." Varric saw the sadness in the man's eyes, "She died when our daughter was a little girl, I've taken care of her since."

"What does this have to do with our mission?" said Varric, "Everything" he responded.

*flashback sequence, woooOooOoOOooOoOoO!*

Sebastian had awoken to an elven maid pulling at his shoulder, "She isn't doing good, my lord." Sebastian looked at the bed wearily before noticing the local doctor pouring a poultice into the woman's throat, Sebastian grew furious, "Doctor, that's not how you use a poultice!". The doctor stopped, swearing under his breath as Sebastian knelt down to hold the woman's hand.

"How's my daughter?" a loud booming voice echoed from the doorway, an elderly robed man entered the chamber followed by a handful of guards. "We fear the worse, my lord." said the doctor, avoiding eye contact to the man. He walked to the side of the bed, kissed the woman on the forehead before looking at Sebastian with a cold gaze.

"She isn't doing well, Esmund." said Sebastian to the man who didn't look away from him, "You shall call me by my title, you don't deserve to call me by my name." The man gestured for his staff and the doctor to leave, "For once in your life, Esmund! Lose the attitude, she's dying!" The two men stared at each other from both sides of the bed, tension brewing in the air.

"Had we not picked you up off that road, you wouldn't be here!" said Esmund, "She'd probably be married to that Guerrin kid instead of some peasant!" Sebastian looked away to stare at his wife on the bed, this was the last thing she needed to see.

Esmund quieted down, sat at the edge of the bend and held his daughter's hand, "Have you tried your magic yet, son?" asked the man, his rage now turned to sorrow as he gazed upon his ailing daughter. Sebastian shook his head sadly, the frowning expression returned to Esmund's face as he looked towards him, "What good is an apostate who can't do anything right?". Sebastian looked down in shame.

Esmund signaled the guards back into the room, his demeanor changing from furious to sullen, the guards surrounded Sebastian and apprehended him. "What?!" exclaimed Sebastian, Esmund ignored his screams and adressed the guards, "This man is a maleficar, he has poisoned my daughter. Take him to the templars.". Sebastian looked around in confusion, unable to think of anything to say as he was being dragged away from the room, from Esmund, from his Emilie.
