Well, the problem is we're pretty knowing with what role Varric will serve and his type of personality from all the tidbits we've received. We're given a box, fanart and such revolves inside that box. Fenris has no box, people are imagining him with the personality they want him to have.



Mary Kirby can make the Varric fans go "" by saying something awesome but I doubt she'd be able to interest more people when she's competing with their imaginations. It's not to insult the character of Fenris, I'm sure he'll be a pretty cool dude once we actually know him.



I'm sure the Fenris thread will hype up more (for better or for worse) if we find out more about Fenris' personality before launch but will calm down once they get it out of the system.

It won't lessen the love for Fenris, but a lot of hype and fun can come out of imagining what a blank-slate character is going to be like before release.

For the most part, it is just all the excitement and energy for DA2 concentrated towards one character.

It's unavoidable. Character threads tend to do this.

That said, Varric's the narrator (seems like an important role) and even if he's not a love interest, you can still be good friends with him. Sounds good to me.
