That is so sweet. Even if we don't get him as an LI he will be the most epic BFF ever.
*still crosses fingers and prays for LI*
I haven't posted in a while, but as the release date for DA II date draws closer, I find myself with many new questions. The biggest question that I have right now is: where did all of this sudden doubt as to if Varrick will be a Love Interest come from?
In regards to the latest developer video, where they showed the champion's companions inside a book (thrown at poor Varric's head), there are 6 companions (not counting your sibling and any future DLC characters).
Now, the rest of this page is based on assumption. However, there is evidence (though it is minimal) that seems to point towards certain companions as love interests. As always, it is easier to predict who MHawke's possible love interests are than FHaweke---but no matter. First I'll present MHawke:
Isabella -
MHawke LI - from what has been shown in the latest developer video called "The Story" as well as
through various other video clips, she has been seen passionally kissing MHawke. Though I know this
is not enough to absolutely prove that she is an LI, but this is the best evidence out of all the
other companions.
Probability Rating: Extremely Good FHawke LI - speculation from the Warden's interaction with her in Dragon Age: Origins. As was seen
through the gameplay in Origins, she is very open to bisexuality, and therefore, it would make sense if
she was a lesbian option.
Probability Rating: Very GoodAveline -
MHawke LI - the only evidence as to her possible role as a future love interest is shown in the "The
Story"developer video. At about 3:22 - " As Mr. Gaider says, "Relationships can develop over a period of
years rather than just weeks or months," There is a scene where Aveline is shown, with a pained and
sorrowful look on her face. Immediately after this, it cuts to a scene where MHawke says to Aveline,
"Been a while, hasn't it?"
To which she replies, "I've been keeping an eye on you."
Easily, the 'relationship' that Mr. Gaider alludes to could just as easily be that of friendship. However
the dialogue shared between her and MHawke shown above can also be interpreted as having deeper
meaning, intimacy-wise.
Probability Rating: Fairly GoodMerrill -
MHawke LI - as Merrill's official reveal has only been recently shown, the evidence towards her possible
love interests status is as vague as Aveline's. However, at "The Story" video, right after the scene between
Aveline and MHawke, Jennifer Hepler, Senior Writer, says, as there is a shot of Merrill, "We've been taking
some wildly different directions [for relationships], from the 'virginal girl next door..." The developers, I
noticed, are quite careful about letting any other word besides "relationship" to describe female
companions towards MHawke. However, I believe that Merrill may be the non-human, lovable and
innocent character that many gamers love. (ex. Tali from the Mass Effect Series)
Probability Rating: Very Good------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
**sigh** Now for FHawke, which is much tougher to predict based purely upon what has been shown or said by developers or in videos. All that I have to base my predictions on is through previous models of love interests for female characters is through past Bioware characters.
Fenris -
FHawke LI - I can truthfully say that I haven't seen anything through what devs have said or through
any videos that even 'hints' at the prospect of Fenris being an LI, this is mainly because there has not
been any footage of FHawke yet, however, as I will for the rest of the FHawke heterosexual romantic
relationships, I will base my assumptions upon post Bioware male characters. Okay, when I first saw that
Fenris was revealed, I instantly thought "Thane Krios from Mass Effect II" I know that the two characters
are very different, physically, and characteristically. However the way in which the two are, in fact similar, is
their qualification of being a "handsome, mysterious, non-human romance." Even with the very little
information that we have been given, this is the best that I've come up with so far.
Probability Rating: Very GoodVarric -
FHawke LI - By far, Varric is my most anticipated character for DA II. In many ways, this anticipation
reminds me of the feelings I had after hearing the Garrus from Mass Effect II was, in fact, romanceble.
Varric seems to me, to be an unconventional romance, especially since the is the narrator of the story.
I believe that this development would add whole other layer to the story of DA II. However, wishes will not
come true simply because I wish them to be....Therefore the only other reason I have to believe that Varric
may be a romance is simply because..well....he's quite handsome, yes? In most of the Bioware games
that I have played, (Mass Effect, Mass Effect II, Dragon Age: Origins, Jade Empire and Star Wars: Knights
of the Old Republic) where there is a very handsome male character, he is always an LI for the female
player. So, I know that this rebuke is not quite concrete (that's an understatement....) and that at this point
I'm grasping at straws to find evidence here. But hey, I do my best with what I am given.
Probability Rating: Fairly GoodMystery Human Male ?? -
FHawke LI - since there is absolutely no information on this man so far, other than a
few pics now and then, I wont go any further than to say that, as there will be those fans
who will want a human romance, this guy will serve to accomedate them. I feel bad
simply personifiying this man as 'the obligitory human romance' , especially if he is a
great character, however, I believe that this is, in fact, the case. (ex. Jacob Taylor from
Mass Effect II).
Probability Rating: Very Good **Notice that I did not add any male companions as homosexual choices, simply because I have even less information on them, therefore, I will simply wait until more information comes out on the mystery human male as well as the other companions.
So, with all of this information, has there actually been any announcement from a developer that has said that you can only romance two people, like in Origins, however, I have not seen heard of any such information. So all I have to say is, "Don't give up hope!!! I sure haven't, and I don't plan to until a the developers tell me otherwise."
