That's right. And, they aren't the only thing she likes shoving in people's faces.

The Isabela jokes... they don't stop.

I don't want to sink your ships (as i am quite entusiastic about the whole video myself *squee*) but i think a guy in AC2 named his sword Bianca

I was making an extremely obscure literary reference when I named her, that I expect nobody to get.

Bianca is already romantically involved.

"Bianca, baby, introduce yourself!" KPOW!

Johnny wins the prize!* 'Cause it's a framed narrative... and DA2 is a framed narrative... like I said, I wouldn't expect that to leap to the forefront of anybody's mind.

*the prize is me not making fun of you.

This deserves repeating.
Despite my brain yelling that an X-shaped crossbow would be a waste of tensile strengh, it looks effin' awesome.

What's great is that those X-shaped devices pop out with a CHU-****** sound whenever he ****s the crossbow.

Whether this is how a crossbow would/could actually work, I don't know. Probably best reserved for one of those grognard threads where folks compare their SCA experiences on how weapons are supposed to be represented in games, I guess.

Holy crap and a half that Isabela thread.

I knew that would happen the minute people found out who she was. I expect some people to absolutely hate the idea of an unashamedly hedonistic, sexually expressive female. With an inflated chin, apparently.

I'm actually pleasantly surprised at how many people are excited to have her. And Varric likes her, so it's all okay.

Does Varric run around stamping:
Varric Approved on everything?

Or do things simply start to glow with an aura after he approves of it?

He doesn't stamp. He just rubs his cheek on it. And then it glows.

*is kidding*

Than how do I know what is and isint Varric approved or not?

It just gets increasingly more awesome as the game progresses.

The guy is telling this story, after all.

I love those boots. I think that was the first thing both Sheryl and I commented on when we saw her concept. "Those boots rock!"

Based on that, I'd really like to hear some witty banter between Varric and Isabela now :D

Varric and Isabela have witty banter with everyone!  Their banter is great.

And while that certainly has its place, and can be quite fun, I really think that The Most Important Man in The World can do a little better than that when it comes to a long term (10 years! possibly) relationship. That's the source of my complaint, not a problem with female sexuality.

So don't romance her? Not seeing the issue here.

Edit: Sheryl, were you the one who also did her character in Origins?

Yes. I was one of the many, many people who did Isabela in Origins.

(But seriously, yes, I wrote her.)

Okay, he doesn't like Isabela, other people like Isabela, and the writers enjoy playing around with stereotypically "****ty" characters but this is Varric's thread. Don't make him pull out Bianca.

Now come on. You know if you tried to shut down his fan thread he'll show at your place with Bianca humming. He already knows where you live.

I can't lock threads. I can only banhammer people.  Which is for the best, really. Power corrupts, and moderator powers turn you into Woo.

Actually I'm curious though, who gets a say in which character would be right for which person? Do you have the largest say Mary because he's essentially your creation, or is it a group effort between the sound and writing departments?

Caroline Livingstone is our Voiceover Director of Awesomeness. Typically for an important character, she gets the character description and then does a bunch of auditions, narrows down the auditions to a few, and passes the chosen ones on to the writing department to see what we think. I remember trying to decide between two different Stens at one point on Origins.  Sometimes she just knows who to cast, and this was the case with Varric, actually.

My impression was that "Rise to Power" has a combination of real game-play footage (as "draft" as it may be at this point) and the usual Blur trailer animations.  Beautiful, and bearing only some relationship the to actual game.  The close-ups of Flemeth and Hawke both had that flavour.

All the footage is from the game. Cutscenes featured are in-game cutscenes.

Watched again, and agree that something (hair? probably. decorations? possibly.) is swaying on Flemeth's head just above her shoulder and behind her ear as she lifts her chin.

[ Edit: Ninja'd by MK herself! ]

But since neither Bethany's (in the preceding scene) nor Hawke's (in the scene afterwards) hair seems to budge at all as they ran, (both coifs seemed gel'd into total immobility) I'm lookiing for sweat rivulets running down their faces by the time Release Date rolls around!

Flemeth gets awesome hair because we are afraid of what will happen if we don't. Everyone else has to put up with merely cute, immobile haircuts.

*shrug* I dunno. It could be purple by the time the game ships. Or it could be Varric has annoyed her that much.

It makes her stand out better against the background than the black would have, I bet. I did like the severity of the other style, though.

Speaking of, Blonde Varric. I got so used to our reddish-haired fanart Varric XD It works though, in this sorta surprising way. Blondes have more fun, as the cliche goes, though not in my experience.

(Spelling edit.)

Exact shades are subject to change. Varric's hair in-game appears blonde, or light brown depending on the lighting, and what the texture has decided, apparently on its own, to do today. Sometimes all his hair detaches from his head and floats through the air behind him. So... yeah. Not entirely finished yet.

"How can you say that, Hawke? Obviously, the Sam Kieth Sandman is superior."
"Are you blind, dwarf? Charles Vess drew the best Sandman. Everyone knows that!"
"Sam Kieth!"
"Charles Vess!"

I know. The worst part of being a refugee fleeing from the Blight? Your mother totally fails to save your stuff. Also, if you're me, you get Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' "Refugee" stuck in your head for hours and hours after you get to Kirkwall.
