I struggle to see how this comparison even makes sense, given what we know. But, eh, different strokes.Klace wrote...

Jacob was written by Lukas Kristjanson (not Mary Kirby) and I think the reason people accuse him of boring is that he provides a mirror for Shepard in Mass Effect 2 in that he's a former Alliance soldier who is conflicted and ambivalent about his role in Cerberus. Just like Shepard. It's not that he doesn't have problems, it's that he's dealing with some of the same ones that Shepard is.
Personally I was glad to have his well-adjusted character around. But then, I played ManShep. On FemsShep I avoid the armory like the plague, primarily due to Jennifer Hale's performance.
On Varric, I can understand the level of interest in him being the same as Jacob or anyone else - but they couldn't be more different as characters. I'm curious as to what your impressions of Varric are, and why that impression doesn't interest you.

Indeed, although I tend to think peoples impression of Jacob is coloured by how awful his romance path is considered by most (and it's Bioware meme status means even people who have never romanced him know about it, and thus have their perception of him affected by it).
I can't for the life of me see how anyone could relate Varric to Jacob though, they seem like completely different characters to me.

I'm not interested in Varric, even as a character.
Sorry.
I hope he proves to be good in-game though.
But to me, he's Jacob at the moment.
Im sorry you feel that way...if you have a chance, however, I'd recommend hitting the blue "bioware" button below this thread and read some of the stuff provided by Mary Kirby and other writers.

Also... dunno if this has been pointed out yet... but has anybody noticed the rather striking similarity in looks to Ray Winstone?

Intentional design or coincidence? Winstone would do a badass voice for him. That or someone scottish, although Sebastian is already scottish...

unfortunately Isabela is VERY good at poker... not sure how it's quite related to Varric-talk though, aside of having him in it...
Varric is a bro, concerned for poor Carver, of course!

Nah, he's down a belt, shoes and socks. Isabela's got an earring on the table. Also she managed to get Carver naked. She's definitely winning

And judging by Aveline's expression he's not winning there either. He's still got Ser Pounce a Lot, though.
The petting soft and defenseless animals trick won't work on her. Next to her everything is soft and defenseless.

Oh, I didn't mean he'd DEPLOY CUDDLY ANIMAL, just that he's - well, at least he's got his kitty.

who's the character on the left of aveline?
Anders. Whether or not he's officially in Dragon Age 2, that's who is in the fanart.

Looooove the new picture, Pseudo. I'm rather entertained by picturing the conversation around the table.
That's my favorite part, too.

I love how Merrill is totally chilled even though she's not wearing a top. Totally fine with her nakedness. What I find unlikely is that Varric isn't gawping.
I like to imagine that she's an unapologetic hippie nudist and he got used to it. I have no idea. I like the idea that they just don't care about propriety around each other. I'm sure he is not interested in or knows better than to ogle his friend's breasts.
