There were six love interests in Mass Effect 2, so I'm pretty sure there will be a similar number for Dragon Age 2.



Anyway, I've heard some people say that Varric can't be a love interest since he's the narrator, which I find odd. Varric's position as narrator just makes him seem more likely to be a love interest in my opinion. It's such an interesting idea to add to a romance and, as narrator, Varric obviously finds Hawke fascinating (not to mention the "everyone finds me attractive" hero syndrome Hawke will definitely have).

So yes.  Not all the companions will be interested in Hawke.

Heh, to be fair, Beth/Carv haven't been "officially confirmed" yet. 

And I was thinking more about the companions shown in Cassandra's copy of the Stone Temptress book of suspects when I was typing that out. To me, Varric, Aveline, Fenris, Merrill, Anders, and Isabela all seem like viable options.  

But I also doubt it will be all of them. I'm game for being pleasantly surprised, though!

EDIT! Apparently, Aveline is not an option. So, that settles that.

She is not a romance option for the player but there are things with her later… she can come out of her shell to some degree…! That’s one advantage of the passage of time. By the end of the game her husband’s been dead for 10 years.

Perhaps she's something like Samara?

I can see a friendship with Aveline being as deep, if not more so, than a romance with her. Getting under her shell, and having that shared history, is something I can see sticking with me long after I've put away the game.

And then she and my warrior Hawke can go shield-shopping! And loom over Varric in concert! Whee~

Time to change the subject! What nicknames do you all think Varric will have for the other companions? Gaider mentioned that Varric calls Fenris "Elf" and Merrill "Daisy," so I'm hoping he'll also have some fun names for the other companions.

I think the same will probably apply to Varric. He's going to be an excellent character regardless, and even if he isn't a LI, his story may still be surprisingly interesting and/or touching. I think we're going to see some pleasant depth to his character, which may lead to a more meaningful relationship than lover.

Even though I'm still shameless in my desire for the indulgence of Varricmance.
