I have a feeling that regardless of LI status, my Hawke is gonna spend a lot of time hanging out with Varric and Isabela at the Hanged Man. Well, as much time as possible xD Everyone else seems so srsbsnz, they're the most fun so far.
Very true, I believe that I would do the exact same thing in my game.
And something just occured to me, if Varric isn't romancable (optimistic foxtrot says this is impossible, but lets just speak in hypotheticals), then I believe it is likely that Bioware will realize their mistake, and make Varric pull a Garrus for DA:3. I belive that either Mr. Gaider or Mr. Laidlaw said that they have always wanted to impliment a dwarf romance, and though I reeeeaallly want it to happen now, if it does not, it will definately occur next game.
But enough of that, I never look forward to Plan B anyway....
I hope that it happens
eventually if it doesn't happen for DA2. I'd dearly love to play a dwarf again and have a dwarf/dwarf romance because I just love, love, love the dwarf culture. Know how people say they love the pillar lean that Alistair has when he thinks you're kidding about sleeping with Morrigan? And how Loghain has the same pose in Awakening? Pffft. BOTH dwarf origins had that from the get-go. Gorim has his pillar lean when he approached Aeducan and Leske had his pillar lean when he was waiting for Brosca to show up. That is how awesome dwarven men are. (I'm dying to know if we'll also see the roller-derby females in DA2 walking around!)
When I started DAO, I was thinking gee, a human and dwarf romance would be awkward, but I had never seen a romance in a game before so, what can it hurt to just try it anyway? Alistair was funny and made me laugh, but there seemed to be this elephant in the room -- did he simply not have an opinion on the fact that she was a dwarf? AND THEN THERE IT WAS. He comes to her declaring his feelings and Aeducan asked if it bothered him that she was a dwarf. Then came the best line in the entire game -- "Don't be ridicilous. If anything, I was wondering if I was too tall for you." I felt so validated in my choice in playing the race I wanted to play and that my character was not considered the freak, but rather a human had worried he wasn't good enough for a dwarf. Not even a Queen Cousland ending could beat that one line, bravo to the writer that wrote that.
This is largely what fuels my excitement at the possibilty of a role reversal with a Varric romance -- to continue that human/dwarf dynamic. If he's not a LI, aww, bummer. Varric will just convert more people in the meantime. Sigrun has already melted some hearts, too!

Edit: Just adding in this plug for those who are not accustomed to playing a dwarf in origins. tmp created a
beautiful romance scene for Alistair + female dwarf. (Love interests will also kneel down for kisses rather than the dwarf magically standing on a footstool. =p)
