Varric Tethras: Chest Hair & Dwarven Goodness 2.0 **Finest Dwarven Craft**

Now, a dwarf is not as alien as either of those characters, but Bioware's polling data suggests that dwarves were far and away the least played race in DAO, while human was played by well over half of all players. That means the likelihood of them including a dwarf romance that over half their players are unlikely to see vs. a human romance which will inevitably be more popular is unfortunately unlikely.

Anyways, I'm as pessimistic as when the first screenies were revealed.

Uh, what? They designed Thane specifically for women to find him attractive. That was the main reason the drell were designed as a species - for women to find something more exotic than a human and less alien than a turian attractive.Glycerine Queen wrote...
... and they almost scrapped Thane's romance due to them thinking no one would want to kick it with a fish-man either.
Also, he's more of a lizard-man.

Really? You may be right, I just remember seeing a video with Bioware artists talking about how they had to move his design closer to human from early design concepts so that he'd work as a love interest.
I'm really just saying that Bioware's attitude towards non-human love interests has always seemed like "I guess...if you guys are really into that." See Gaider's comments on finding a dwarf-human or dwarf-elf romance slightly icky.

Thanks! What a great article. Love all of those design concepts. So, it seems that they struck a good middle-ground there between slightly weird-looking human and completely alien gill-guy.
Back on topic: I'm not saying Varric is not a love interest, I'd like him to be, just because it would be something unusual and different, but I do think Fenris and Anders are more or less guaranteed to be LIs given past history and all the snippets we've heard.
Oh, and pseudo, I LOVE your artwork. Keep doing what you do, girl. Your DA page is a regular stop for me.

With design for video games a lot of the time it's hampered by the requirement that everyone share rigs and animations. That's probably why the Collectors ended up being bipeds despite there being concept art of them having more than four limbs. Some of Thane's crazier concepts might have required additional cost to get the point across. But uh, right. On topic! And thank you.
It's like rock paper scissors with LIs, except now by process of elimination (and Gideon) Fenris is all but confirmed.

Would you please care to clarify? Truly, the only one who is more likely to be an LI is Fenris, as he is the only character Mr. Gaider has written, and he has said that he wrote one of the romances. There is truly no steady grounding with which Anders LI supporters have to insist that Varric will not be a LI and Anders will.

True enough. But do not underestimate the power of the Varric thread, my friend. Even if Bioware stikes us down, we will become more powerful than they can possible imagine...

Was there really a Garrus love scene? I never pursued it but wasn't it pretty mild, like they bump heads in some awkward approximation of a kiss then never speak of it again? If not, then maybe us ladies will be lucky and get 3 love interests like in ME2, while fellas are stuck with just 2.
I thought the sex was implied.
That said, i'm glad the actual cutscene didn't go any further. The way it played out, the emotional load was just about perfect. YMMV etc.
