We already know Varric is kind of a scoundrel. I'd expect him not to be amoral, but jaded by pragmatism. He, after all, has shown himself quite savvy.

Not really, though we're still not as upset as say... other fans who would've missed out on their LI, this was always to be expected since 5-6 months ago before we even know of other LIs. It's just disappointing. Can't imagine the rage if a LI was not the usual "good looking" guy.

Ya it will be intresting to see how much of a scoundrel he is. Many of the people on this forum have written him off as a "good guy". A scoundrel and a rogue, but in the Han Solo sense.

Yet, this may not be the case at all. In the end he may be more like Yoshimo than Solo... he could very well be amoral. Although the fact he seems to be defending Hawke points to him being a good guy. Although we hardly know the full story. I'm really excited to see where that goes.

I also can't wait to meet his brother. They sound so diffrent I can't wait to see how they mesh... if they do.

GOD I just wish Oghren was in the game. He and Varric would play so well off each other.

There are pre-existing social stigmas for a dwarf romancing outside of the race. I remember we'd used to debate all the time that if we brought any of the DAO love interests back to Orzammar at the end of the game, whether they'd be accepted as our lovers despite our new paragon status. A few dwarves would gasp at the sight of an elf in their city. And I recall a DG post where an union that resulted in a half-dwarf child would be so scandalous that the family would leave for the surface. Mixing with other races was basically frowned upon.  I know Varric is a surface dwarf, but it sounds like the social structure still works the same way and that could possibly be one of the explanations for the friends only route.

He has gangster connections without a doubt. I don't think he usually deals with it personally though.

Don't assume it's merely because he's a dwarf that he's not a LI.

Varric's the narriator. He has not only a unique role in the DA2 cast... but also a unique role in a bioware game, as never before has a companion played such a role.

They're already doing allot with his character, maybe they didn't want to make him an LI because his writers already have enough on their plate making him the narriator.

Think off all the diffrent paths his narriation will already need to encompass... and to add an LI angle ontop of it all? Thats tough.
