Oh, also forgot to mention this when I was giving the little tidbits of info earlier: Gaider said that Mary is writing Varric to be a funny character after having done Sten and Loghain, although I'm wondering what kind of funny he is.
But Sten was funny <3
I'm thinking less dry-funny and more outright funny then? I think we can expect sly, winking, needling "I know something you don't and I know that bothers you and I love it!" funny out of Varric.

Well, seeing as how Sten and Loghain were kinda stoic, I'm guessing someone who is a bit more lively.
Yeah. I jumped at the chance to write Varric so that I could have a character who actually wanted to talk to the player. Nice change of pace.
But it means a lot when both your characters who didn't want to talk much to the player are still relatively well-loved by the community (Loghain aside but people love to hate him) making me even more excited for Varric.

True that. Although I kind of get a perverse joy out of pestering characters who don't want to talk to me. I imagine that's how Varric lives his life.

Am now picturing Varric putting on shades and going YEEEEEEEEEAAAH
Quasi-related: he's wearing leather pants as he does this.

I hate to admit it, but I always feel flattered when a character wants to talk to the character I'm playing. I have a feeling I'll like Varric.
What do you mean? Like.. in Mass Effect 2 if Kelly told you "Jacob wants to talk to you about something", you'd feel flattered?

I was never entirely happy with how most games have PC initiate all conversations. I like it when an NPC comes up to you and just starts talking.

I take it you enjoyed when companions were like "I want to say something." when the camp loaded?

The boobs are huge and I missed David Gaider.
And great, I am all alone in this thread. *sniff*
Anyway, I don't even know what to say about Varric without seeming like an attention seeker. O.o
Anything new besides what's already been said? Answer in a few hours.

When I saw the in-game image of Varric I couldn't help but think, "Woah. Brandon Gleeson?"

Is there still no discernable age for Varric?

No, I'm here, I think.
He might be timeless, if that's any help?

Also, wow, he wants to talk to us! That fact makes me giddy in and of itself, and then the fact that he's going to be funny? I can't wait for more Varric! :3

What timezones are you?
30s is quite young for the appearance of greying hair we've had.

Quite a few people tend to believe that he's in his 30s when he meets Hawke, which would make him in his 40s when he's talking to Cassandra. Given that Hawke will no doubt lead a very... thrilling life with his/her party members, the grey isn't surprising.

I've known guys in their late teens who have grey hairs and some that are quite, quite bald.

I hope he won't be Oghren or Alistair funny, drunk or goofy, I liked them, but they should have more variety now.

Considering the smirk I saw on his face in the U-Stream yesterday (even though it was a bit blurry), I doubt he'll be goofy OR a drunk, really. He seems like he'll be charming/charismatic funny, more Zevran-ish in his humor than any of the other DA:O characters.
I got the impression that he'll probably be fairly snarky too, but a different type of snark to, say, Alistair or Morrigan. I really liked the humour Mary Kirby worked into Sten, whose a pretty serious character all-round, so I'm really looking forward to seeing exactly how Mary writes Varric, who is, as far as we can tell, far, far less serious.
