Oghren and Varric are nothing alike. One has a beard and chugs beer and ale all day and belches without excusing himself, the other has chest hair and drinks red wines from Montsimmard in Orlais and has lots of money. Enough money to buy priority stock ownership of EA so he can own Bioware and call all the shots.

I think what David said was that it might sometimes affect what Varric tells Casandra. Not necessarily that he'd say more, simply that he might say slightly different things.
