I'm playing the origional Mass Effect right now and since I usually bring Tali along (Since of her tech skills, and she is kinda cute in the way she acts, sorry off topic) I have alot of questions about the quarians. They seem as if they are a very interesting race, yet my main question is how do they breed. My theory is that they go into a room which will match one of the quarians suits, and the other has to adapt to that suit level. Anyone know how it's truely done?

Edit: I know how they breed, I'm just asking how they are able to with there immune systems.

They go on a happy jaunt through the Forest of Youth, skipping merrily hand-in-hand until they come across a Quarian Tree. The Quarian Tree is the most wondrous of all the trees in the Forest of Youth! Mommy Quarian and Daddy Quarian then have a special hug in front of the tree, which then lowers a branch so the Quarians can pick a baby from it. They carry the baby to the edge of the forest, where a magical unicorn places the baby Quarian in an envirosuit, and that's how the story goes.

There are sterile parts of the ship where they can be out their suits, and they don't immediately die without their suits anyway. They chould just pop-out, boom, then pop-in.

By acclimating to each other first via linking suit environments.

Edit:  Well, you see, when the mommy quarian and the daddy quarian love each other very much...

It's pretty much the old fashioned way but with a lot more care and attention to detail (damn that sounds..*cough*). Even to be in the same room as Talis mother during the birth, her aunt had to match suit environments with her beforehand.

Procreational acts (ooh, now there's a safe term) would probably involve a fair amount of planning, advance warning and a real commitment from both partners. It honestly wouldn't surprise me to find out that there's quite a lot of medical 'assistance' in procreation too.

If you romance Tali, she takes a whole load of medicinal herbs and immune-system supplements before she pays you a visit in your private room. I'd wager a guess that its the same protocol between two quarians, except both need to worry about dying, instead of only one.

Wouldn´t quarians be resistant to bacteria and illness carried by their own species?

I can understand that they could die from contact with other foreign species but not being able to breed with your own kind seems... stupid.

Buy and read second Mass Effect novel. It has lots of info on how quarians live. I will not spoil for you.

Since no one will give you a real answer. "A quarian who wishes to remove their suit must take antibiotics, immuno-boosters, herbal supplements, or the like in order to do so safely, and even then there are inherent risks. As a result, physical acts of affection are difficult for quarians, even for the purposes of reproduction. Ships in the Migrant Fleet often contain "clean rooms" where quarians can give birth or undergo medical procedures in relative safety, though there are always risks. The most intimate thing quarians can do is link their suit environments. However, doing so guarantees a quarian will get sick, although they will usually adapt over time." When the child is born, he/she is placed inside a bubble until adolescence, and being fitted with their first suit is considered a rite of passage.

Pretty much how Tali prepared to be with shepard if it happened in your game. Lots of antibiotics/immunoboosters/etc...

All intimacy is a life threatening situation for them.

Clean room?

They do take off their suits once in a while although its never shown on both games. I really wish that Tali's real appearance comes out in Mass Effect 3, that would be the greatest moment ever!

The Quarians died out centuries ago. The Geth replaced them and built the environment suits. Within are gestalt Geth consciousness-es

Well my odd friend, funny you should ask that, you see:

The quarian biology is a confusing one, they have a weakened immune which in
part leads them to having fairly bazaar mating rituals.

Like for instance when a male quarian is expressing interest in a female (Or
male, quarians can have different preferences, like the great Captain
Hulo'Toha Vas Quis who fought back the great batarian raid of 2075.)
quarian he would produce a green viscous fluid called Qu'ty'uye'op (or
The Big Q as called by the newer generation of quarians, popularized by
the band Gu'iurp. ) And if the female smells such the odor of the Q and
if she wants to return a show of interest she would excrete a fluid
known as Gup, this reddish-purple fluid is said to be an aphrodisiac to
quarians and horrendous smelling to other species, (And leathel to some
salarians.)

If the bond of stenches is confirmed by the ancestors(As in the
head of both families approves.) they will be escorted to a chamber, in
the sterile chamber, called a Hupo.

Inside the male will preform verities of dances to impress the female.
If and only if she is impressed enough she will excrete an egg, and only one egg.
It is the males duty to fertilize this egg by devouring it and waiting for it to
grow in his stomach.

Over time it will start to show and begin
to hatch, (many accidents have happened because of this, like the
foolish Go'pollwty vas Telliois, who will go down as what not to do in
the production of a baby.) the male will them have to release the egg
trough his digestive tract, it is a very painful process and might even
cause death is not done correctly. Once the egg is out it will need to
be kept in a nursery and be stored until it hatches.

And that is how quarians breed.
