Hello everyone. I have a huge problem with NWN2.
I had it as soon as it came to Italian shops (birthday gift!), but I couldn't use it till 2 months ago, when I bought a new computer. I've installed it, patched it and started to play (and love it [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/heart.png[/smilie] ).
The problem: the toolset doesn't load. Or better, it loads, but as soon as I click on whatever point of the toolset, it just freezes and I receive
the W7 message "the program is blocked, do you want me to close it or to look for a solution and then close it?". No solution available,
of course.
So
I read the bioware forum, and users suggested to install DirectX9.0c.
Done, the file from the NWN2 DVD, with no result. I am using a W7 pro, 64bit, with Sapphire ATI5870
VaporX. Everything has been updated with the most recent drivers.
Moreover, not only the toolset freezes, but whatever in-game activity related to crafting, doesn't work.
[ie: I've done an adamantium bastard sword (and that was ok), then I added a holy damage, following the recipe. The process gone well, since I obtained the pop up window where I have to put the name of my new object, but if I check the sword properties, it is still an adamantium bastard sword, with no holy enchantment.]
I've tried to download some mods able to change object characteristics, but even if I can see the "modify objects" menu in my game, the mod simply doesn't work.
So I suppose it is all related to the toolset malfunction.
Now I am without that pc, due to a hardware problem, for about 2 other weeks (here is holiday so I am unable to change my power supplier) but meanwhile I would
like to discover how to fix my game. For any other things, the game work smooth and fine. I've also bought MotB expansion,
but not installed yet. Maybe it could fix the problem?
Hope you could help. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/crying.png[/smilie] I am really desperate!
Thank you very much.

I doubt the toolset issue and crafting are related.
Have never heard of a "blocked" error message before.
Can you list system specs and the language you are running?

Well, each time something goes wrong, W7 ask you if you want to kill the process. However, my system is:
Windows 7 pro, 64 bit in Italian
NWN2 patched, in Italian (MotB not installed yet)
Intel i7 930
6GB of RAM
Sapphire ATI5870 VaporX
so, no hardware problem
(even at max settings, my system is loaded at less than 7%!). I've read in a gamer forum that this problem (same scenario, even W7 not able to finding the solution) has already happened, unfortunately, that user never came back to write how he has solved it!

Unfortunately no :-( He had problem with the game, but my game works perfectly. The toolset doesn't work. I read it is a problem with DirectX, but I've reinstalled the 9.0c version. On another thread I've read maybe I have to update my .NET...
However, thank you

Yes, it does require .NET. And from what I understand, .NET versions build on previous ones, so compare what you have installed against the requirements.
If you figure out the problem, please do post the solution here, since Win 7 compatibility is increasingly becoming a challenge as XP ages out.
Good luck!

Of course I will update this post with the solution... if I'll be able to find it!
For now I just have to wait... the shop where I bought some pieces of my new computer is opening on Monday (after 3 weeks of holiday) so, no news till my pc becomes available again!

Run the dxwebsetup from the microsoft site to actually receive the recent dx9 packages. The dxsetup from the DVD must be VERY old right now, don't you think?
Check windows update, especially for .NET updates. Simply download all recommended packages.
