Oh. I meant to try the one here ( I thought you had installed the impulse ones before ) but maybe I misread.

Ok, well, I did try the one from impulse again, and it broke the activation again.  But, oh joy, rolling back the content of bin_ship fixed reverted enough to fix the issue (i was afraid because the impulse patch also installs runtime libraries but that wasn't it, the problem is indeed in bin_ship).

I'll try to install the patch from this site and post back.

Did you by chance check to see if the paths in the ini were updated to a null location before and/or after patching?

And tada!  The one from this site works.  Impulse must have buggered a detail...

Now I have both bin_ships.  I which I had araxis merge on my home pc to see what the hell is screwed.

I really appreciate you taking the time to test. Helps everyone in the long run.  If that doesn't work. Have you tried to just clear the .ini file completely, not letting it point to the activation?  I find it very odd that the Impulse has more DRM then the EADM ( and from the sound of it it does. ) I've installed the EADM version and it doesn't even ask for the key again after you've registered it.

Thanks so much for trying it ! See how a little trial and error goes a long way.!  Glad it worked for you! Spread the good news!

I have both folders.  Actually have I three: unpatched, impulse patched, bioware patched.  So I can check whatever you want.

Looking at my EACore_app.ini, I can see this right away :

Impulse:
core.agents.2.path="C:\\Program Files\\Dragon Age\\bin_ship\\PatchProgress.exe" /locale={locale} /patchLocale={patchLocale} /guid={clientGUID}

Bioware:
core.agents.2.path="E:\\Games\\Dragon Age Origins\\bin_ship\\PatchProgress.exe" /locale={locale} /patchLocale={patchLocale} /guid={clientGUID}

My game is indeed installed in E:... I'll try editting just that and see...

Lore_weaver33: Date was referring specifically to scipiokasts problem, from several days ago, that is indeed the issue mentioned in the sticky. Though, he fixed it for himself already.

For those having problems with the activation: Have you tried with/without the hyphens ( - ). I use impulse and had it ask for re-activation a few days ago for the hotfix patch. It took me a couple tries, but I was able to get it to accept the key.

Now for the bad news. I can install and run 1.0.1 fine, but as someone mentioned in another post: The map locations for the DLC ( Sulchers pass and Wardens Keep ) are gone. I've already been through sulchers pass, etc to pick up shale, but now Wardens keep isn't there. ( Did it fine on a previous game before patch. ) So, until a fix for this is found, try not to install the new patch.

Oh, also: Try not to ever install anything to the "Program Files (x86)" folder, some programs really don't like it.

No, that's not it.  I actually copied the full EACore_app.ini from the working patched folder to the impulse one.  No cigare.  Something else in that folder is broke.  I'll try to run CRC32 on the directory content and see what else differs.

That's interesting to note... I wonder if that's what's causing so many of the problems for people running with vista (and maybe 7) where it's installing to c:\\program files (x86)\\\\....

I installed this game fresh from a hard copy. I was able to start the game just fine and while exploring this website discovered the patch. Figured it couldn't hurt to have everything updated. My mistake. I now cant get past the launch window. Clicking play does nothing.

This past Sunday I downloaded the patch and I was not able to play the game. I kept clicking on the play button but the darn thing would not start. I had to reinstall the game and was able top play. Just make sure that when you uninstall the game that you don't uninstall your saved games unless thats something you don't care about.

Any one down load 1.01 yet and is able to play the game?

There's a sticky at the top of the forum addressing the issue.

Here is a link to the issue.  I have the same problem, but it appears to be the one Dateranoth refers to:

I didn't have to re-activate my impulse copy this time ( I had this happen with the hotfix a few days ago ), so I'm thinkin it's more likely that impulse just forgot to register the cd key in the first place, and only checks when a new patch is installed. It then finds the cd key isn't properly registered, and asks for it again. This time it does seem to save it.

Zechio,

Do you know if this is Impulse specific?

Ok, I found it.  The following file in post impulse patch is wrong :
daorigins.par - CRC32: 882D222E, size 134 bytes

After a valid patch, it should be.
daorigins.par - CRC32: 46F6312C, size 131 bytes

I suspect it is due to the fact that the PatchProgress.exe wasn't correctly referenced in the .ini at the time of the patch, which led to a bad parity file (speculating that this is what the .par file is) which led to the authentification failing (because it uses the parity file).

That's not much help to the regular user, but hopefully it will help impulse figure out a fix.

ok, so the question is can you take the old daorigins.par prepatch and replace the post patch impulse and fix the issue?

I can only speak with certainty on my own install, which is Impulse.

However, the patch does not include anything really major. The game will be slightly more difficult, and there are a couple rare issues fixed with the patch. Not worth risking losing Wardens Keep and Honnleath (SP?) if possible.

And yes, I can copy the .par from the validly patched folder (or the original prepatch, they are the same) to the impulse patched folder and it works.

So a potential fix is simply to distribute the original .par file.  I'm only worried, does this file contain any of my personnal data or anything like that, or is it the same for everyone?

If anyone with a working patch can run a crc on theirs, we could confirm...  (http://www34.brinkst...nload/crc32.zip)  It should CRC to 46F6312C.

If it does, we have a fix.

I was having the same registration problem. I'm using Win 7 so I use "Restore previous versions" on daorigins.par and copied in an older version (renaming the broken one first). It worked!!!

I also have a fix for the DLC content disappearing:

I disabled all of the premium content, restarted the game, selected resume, and when prompted selected "enable content". The save loaded, and Soldiers Peak and Honnleath are back on the map

So, patch away!

daorigins.par 46f6312c 131 bytes ( and that's from the EADM installed version ) so should be safe to distribute

Now i'm wishing I hadn't uninstalled and started a new download. I could have just taken that file version from the other PC. :/

Alright, so we have a fix.

Ok, I'm not really setup for distributing file, but at least 10 persons can grab it before it expires:
http://rapidshare.co...rigins.par.html

Just copy that to your Dragon Age Origins\\bin_ship folder and you are set (backup the old one before for safety).

Mirror thx to Zechio :

Mirror thx to quill18 on the Impulse forums:
