Hey guys was having small stability issues meaning crashes from time to time with 1.04 but far from unplayable.  The crashes were happening with AOE spell effects but setting the affinity when playing DA to cores (intel I7 processor) 4 5 6 7 seems to have fixed that...I got the idea from this thread http://social.biowar...8/index/189269/.  Now I just crash from time to time while I am running ususally.  I usually get 1 crash per play session (2 hours sometimes more haha).  So I rtolled back to Patch 1.02a and have done half a playthrough with 0 crashes. Why is this patch more stable then the Awakening patch? herer are my specs!

Operating system: windows7 ultimate

CPU Intel I7 920

Memory: 9 gigs (I know way too much)

Direct X version : DirectX 11

GPU: Gforce GTX 260 Driver Versions (probably outdated..should i upgrade? always scared too lol):  8.17.11.9745

Sound:  I am using onboard sound atm and I am thinking this MAY be an issue? dunno

PS  I heard you guys talking about updating your N net or something like that? what is that?Posted Image

Sorry, but my main experience is with ATI graphic board. I do not know much about recent nVidia cards.

Concerning "your N net or something like that", I asssume you are speaking of .NET Framework. You can update this software using Windows Update web site.

right I see where it is I just want to make sure I am Downloading the right one! could you give me a link?  Also you were talking about in another topic.  How do I check my version compared to the one with DA's version?

Onboard sound may well be the issue. I'm having similar problems on an AMD platform, with an Nvidia card. The only two commonalities I've noticed with all the "crashing" problems seem to be:

Windows 7 (both 32 bit and 64)

Integrated audio

It seems to affect ATI cards the same way as Nvidia cards, both Intel and AMD processors, and RAM seems irrelevant, no matter how much is installed.

P.S. You can never have too much RAM ;-)

ANDY, this might sound a bit odd, but would you try installing DirectX 9c and see if that helps?

so how about buying A USB headset instead of a card? would that help? since that acts as your audio device. or if you recommend getting a sound card could you show be a decent one? I have very limited knowledge on sound cards.

Go to the standard Windows Update web site (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com), choose Custom mode for updating, then select all critical updates and check Optional updates list for important ones.

I don't know anything about sound cards. I asked once in a thread, but it got lost. I'd honestly be glad to sink about $50-60 into a device (max, $70.00), but I'm not sure where the best value lies. And I don't even know if that's a realistic price range for a usable card. I couldn't tell you about USB headsets. Knowing how Dragon Age has been, I'm guessing there would be some kind of toxic cross-contamination that would melt your monitor ;-)

Knowing how Dragon Age has been, I'm guessing there would be some kind of toxic cross-contamination that would melt your monitor ;-)

rofl ya..

So your Windows software is up to date. You do not have to worry about that.

Your network card driver.  GBE refers to "gigabit ethernet."  P.S.  This won't impact Dragon Age in the slightest.

If your networking's fine, frankly, I wouldn't touch it.  I'm firmly in the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" camp.

@ANDY: I used a usb headset for the longest time while playing DA (until I broke it, no I just use speakers) and never had a problem with it. If you can get ahold of a cheap set, I'd say try that as they seem to work fine for me.

EDIT: Just some FYI, I'm using onboard (realtek) sound with my speakers and generic drivers.

It's usually always good to have updated drivers for your graphics, but might be a good idea to do some research on it first and make sure others haven't been having major issues with the newest driver version. Finding the best, but not necessarily the latest drivers is always a good idea.

EDIT: I can't say for sure for an Nvidia card since I use ATI exclusively, but I'm sure that's still the best route to take. I'm currently running an ATI card with the latest drivers and have had no issues so far (knock on wood).

Yea, Oblivion still is on mine. I have a separate system set aside for games like that lol. Wish I could be of more help, though. I'm just not that familiar with Nvidia. Only ever owned one and it burned out on me within a week lol.. I stressed it pretty hard :P
