Another Sentinel run

I agree about the DLC. You can have Tech Cool-downs and achieve Guardian spec before Horizon. And yeah, it's awesome. I think you'd have to be a little more careful on NG+ though... the way I'm just running around is ridiculous.
Just hit the disabled Collector vessel. Should I take Kasumi/Grunt or Jacob/Miranda? Hmm.

Miranda is by far my favorite squadmade. Bonuses to everyone and she has Warp and Overlod. Plus the one point in Slam helps set up warp explosions or just kill husks.
You could also just take Miranda/Kasumi. My personal favorite for that mission on insanity is Miranda/Mordin but that wasn't one of the options.

mosor, have you tried running an all-biotic squad like Miranda/Jacob against the Collectors or on Samara's recruitment? I just murdered that stage with Throw 3, and Heavy Warp. I wasn't looking for Warp explosions, but somewhere amidst my Armor flooring everyone every 6s, I found the time to do a couple, and they really helped clear rooms a lot faster.

Jacob/Miranda is the best on most mission that doesn't involve geth. With geth, I take Zaeed and Miranda instead of Jacob. Though Kasumi's flashbang neuters Harbringer and turns him into a joke. Might be too easy.
Loyalty missions I take jacob and the person I'm forced to take. With Geth, it's Zaeed.
Reaper IFF, I like Jacob with pull field and Mordin with Area incinerate and the area cryo blast to go along with my area reave area throw and my shotty.

The Scimitar is interesting. Even with extra rounds, I find that after every instance, it's almost completely out. It might be that I'm using it at non-effective ranges, in which case, GPS would definitely be better. I'm going to do another run through the level with the GPS for comparison.

Ran Miranda/Jacob. Harbinger was more of a challenge this time around. He stunlocked me a few times and I didn't hit Tech Armor quick enough. Still, it is more satisfying to get in the face of Harby when he has all his fireballs and projectiles. I also ran the Scimitar instead of the GPS, just to get a feel for it. I died twice on the platforms, and then the rest of the level was easily cleared.

I prefer the evi with Harbringer and the collectors. If you focus on clearing the supporting collectors first, and leave him for last, it's a cakewalk. Just shoot him 3 times, do the reload trick and finish him off with the other two shots. You shouldn't even go in the red. The predator pistol with incindiary kills scions fast too if you hit the blue fleshy part on it's back.

For efficiency though, wouldn't you want Miranda around? She's good for everything and has party buffs also, as the only squadmate I might add.
I like miranda personally. Give her area overload, and it saves me the trouble of casting it myself. The extra HP doesn't really matter to me, since I keep spamming assault armor and rarely go in the red. I usually give her heavy warp to strip collector barriers too.
The main reason I take jacob on loyalty missions over miranda is that he gives me pull and incindary ammo. Casting energy drain those missions myself isn't such a big deal since the cooldown is only 3 seconds. Thats another reason I liked my sentinel run. It made me realise what a good squadmate jacob can be. I used to think he was crap, but he's far from it.

I'll try the Evi on the next mission. It'll be a Blood Pack mission, so plenty of armor to test it out against.

Okay, tried again with GPS, died twice in the same place. I used only the Shotgun in both runs, switching to other weapons only during the Praetorian fight and against the Husks, when I ran out of ammo. They seem to consume their respective clips at an equivalent rate, although GPS definitely gives me a longer reach. Both ran outta ammo right after I killed the last Scion. I like the Scimitar, though, takes me back to my Vanguard days. Nothing like rapid-firing a Shotgun at close range.

You won't regret the evi. I still think it's the best shotgun a sentinel can use. Next time you fight a scion, try the predator pistol. You'll notice you'll kill it faster than with any shotgun outside the claymore. Husks, you don't really need to shoot much. Area reave, a couple shotgun blasts then area throw will clean em out fast.

Same here. I used to think he was crap, but I changed my mind about quite a few things after trying the game on insanity. Pull and Squad Incendiary = good squadmate.

Hmm. Do you think the GPS would perform better against shielded enemies, such as Geth and Blue Suns mercs? I like the Evi's stopping power, no doubt, but its range is limited. While going through Mordin's loyalty mission, I realized I was rushing with the Locust sometimes, just because I was too far away to do any real damage with the Evi. Of course, I guess you could argue you should use the right weapon at the right range. The Locust chews through defenses pretty quick.
Playing around with the Scimitar on the first Blue Suns mission, let's see how it does.

The Evi is really, really good against armor, especially with Squad Incendiary Ammo. Just did Mordin's loyalty mission. No other class could get into the face of three Krogans, one of them a boss with Barrier too, and win a shotgun battle to the death.

Not sure, I never bought the weapon pack. Will probably pick it up when the liara dlc comes out. I just like the evi because even on shielded enemies, it's just one shot, one punch and they're dead. Never found a real need for the locust on mordin's mission. Unless it's a flamethrower, I usually shoot a warp or use mordin's incinerate and sprint to the enemy so I'm in rage. Never had much of a problem doing it.

The GPS fires 3 plasma "pellets". The first to hit a target deals high damage. Any subsequent pellets from the same shot hitting the same target do only 30% of that damage. In the best case, the three pellets will hit 3 different targets and you will deal insane damage. In practice, that never happens. You CAN hit two targets though. All this is taken from the wiki by the way, hope their information is accurate. I can say from personal experience that it appears to be quite accurate. GPS can be a beast.
Personally, I prefer the GPS, but both are great really. I don't really see the point in using the Scimitar though.

It's worth noting that the Eviscerator does slightly higher damage per shot than the GPS, certainly more against armor. However, if you can hit more than one enemy with the GPS (hard but doable) it does considerably more damage than the Eviscerator.

I would change to Evi on Blood-Pack missions, although even there, it depends on whether or not I think I'll be facing multiple Krogans. If you don't have the firepower pack dlc, I highly recommend you download it for the GPS mosor... I think you'd love what it can do for the Assault Sentinel.
EDIT: Also, Scimitar is vastly inferior to Mattock for this very reason, except for the Vanguard.

Having trouble deciding what powers to map to my hot-keys. I could just do Area Drain/Warp/Tech Armor, but then Throw will never see use. I guess Assault Armor can cover my CC needs.

Yeah, charging it is a nifty trick, but it's generally just an opening strike move against whatever elite happens to be present.

Since I play the 360 version, same as you I presume, I hot key according to the mission. Missions with a lot of shields I tack Overload/Energy Drain and something like Throw or Cryo. Collector Missions/Blood Pack I go Warp/Reave and throw or Cryo.

It's too bad Energy Drain complements Assault Armor just too well for me to give it up, even for another bonus power. I suppose I could respec into Reave for Collector missions, but it just doesn't seem worth the trouble.
Also, I noticed Shep glitches a lot more with repeated spamming of Assault Armor. There's definitely times he gets turned around completely backwards, and I can't see straight until it fixes itself.

Yeah, I think that's the best combination, although I seriously never use Throw. I just can't fit it into my play-style of pure rush-down, especially with the Geth Pulse Shotgun. Assault Armor is CC enough for most battles with its 18 m (!) energy pulse.

Personally I just use throw for pre shotgun krogan fights since they have a lot of health and husks. As for area reave, it's pretty good on collectors since you can strip the armor of 2 or 3 collectors at a time and run in with your assault armor and shotty. at 5000 eezo a pop, it's no sweat to change considering you start off with 60k and only need about 40k for upgrades.

Problem with ED on Sentinel is; you want your Assault Armor to go boom. I only use it against Geth (and on purgatory early game - Tech Armor blast is useless against YMIRs, ED will get Shep going a little longer). ED can be useful to delay Assault Armor blast long enough for your Sentinel to get among the enemy (though blast radius is pretty good anyway).

I'm going to try it again after starcraft 2. I'll probably take Slam as my bonus power as one of the major headaches I had with the dude was that Cryo Blast has this irritating time requirement for it take effect... and, of course, the concept of playing a class without Warp Explosions would render the game slightly 'less' for me
Since I'll be playing Normal, I'm not sure how the lack of shockwave will play. Hmmm.

ED is good because it gives you a couple extra seconds of shields when you're going CQC. Those extra seconds allow you to jump in right away and be fully cooled down by the time it does explode so you can recharge it after you punch and shoot the knocked down enemies, If you use your own overload instead, you have to wait those 3 seconds. I know it's not much, but it adds up and makes a difference on how fast you can go clearing levels.

I never bother with cryo on a CQC assault sentinel. I know it should be decent, but it's too damn slow to freeze enemies. Normal with an assault sentinel might be too easy. Seriously just spam assault armor, knock every low level enemy with in 18m down and kill em all. Probably won't even to fire your gun. You can probably punch them all to death. I end up doing mostly that even on insanity.
