So as you can probably assume I have a AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Processor, which has six cores running at 2.8ghz each, not overclocked. I have 4 gigs of ram and a gtx 275. So the ram and gtx are fine, however DA:O only detected 1/6 cores when it rain its system check on install. So is this going to completely ruin my experience? I'd really like to play using atleast 4/6 cores.

Could you post a image from the dragon age origins Configuration Utility on the system tab?

Yes, the configuration utility displays one core, instead of 6. You're processor is to new and the config, utility is old for this CPU. I think you should start the game and disable "Play in full-screen mode",load a game and move a little bit the window with the game, and start the windows 7 task manager and on the performance tab check the graphics that displays to see how much core's the game uses. If the game uses 4 core's (like in game the system requirements) is ok, and the config. utility display wrong.

When you play the game, will task manager show you only 1 core is being used, or are multiple cores used there? I usually see around 50-80% usage on all 4 cores while playing. If all cores are used in task manager I would not worry, the configuration utility is probably reporting incorrect data in that case.

Well it said 18% usage and there were high spikes on two out of six cores, and then medium/average spikes on the other 4, none were idle

Ok, if none core's were in idle is ok.You have no problems, only the config. utility created before than the amd x6 appeared on the market.

This is a well known problem and might be *one* of the reasons why Dragon Age makes these "strange" crash to desktop with no real errors or anything, it just stops working. Many users seem to have this specific problem myself included.
Eventhough the game only finds one of your cores it will run on all of them which causes the instability in many cases - setting affinity to only the one core that the config finds makes the game stable for me ... but it doesn't run nearly as smooth of course, but no CtD,
It's pretty easy to reproduce or test - just make a character with some aoe spell and chain cast these - should make a CtD pretty fast. The most sensitive spells being reportet are Holy Smite, Cleanse Area, Man Clash but it's easy to reproduce with other aoe spells as well. The paralyse/repulsion combo is usually a good way to crash as well.
I have found no fixes or solution to this problem beside setting affinity to run on only one core, which is an annoying fix.

@Quels: I have created a mage, and cast some spells, but i didn't have any crash, using patch 1.04

What level mage and which spells did you cast? The spells that are available early in the game cause much less trouble than the ones listed by Quels, which only come available much later. The Holy Smite only available to templars is one of the most likely to crash your game, but even it does not crash the game every single time it is cast. The game will also only crash in combat for as far as I am aware, simply throwing a fireball into an empty yard space will not likely crash the game for instance. Are you testing this on a 6-core AMD processor, or is your experiment not related to this thread?

If you're using patch 1.02 or earlier I don't think you'll have any problems - what I described was introduced with 1.03 as far as I know

@basdoorn and@Quels: Could you tell me what spells to use, to test the crash problem?

Look at my first post here
Most sensitive and reported spells are Holy Smite - this one's really evil as basdoorn wrote. But Mana Clash, Cleanse Area, Paralyse/Repulsion combo should cause a crash after a little spamming. There are more spells reportet, some single target ones too but the above should have a higher rate if you have this problem at all. Which patch are you using?

Right now i have used some cheats to gain the Holy Smite spell, and i have used the spell about 5 times on some enemies. But i didn't have any crash, i am using patch 1.04, no mods, and very high settings with some background programs running on windows 7.
EDIT: I have used all the mage's spells, and the warrior talent's, no crash.

If you do not have the holy smite bug Calin, would you be so kind as to post your computer specifications and which software (DirectX, PhysX, Windows 7) and driver versions (video, audio) you are using? Maybe other people can look at this and troubleshoot themselves a bit.

@basdoorn: Yes, so i think it's ok for me in terms of crashing, i have used today all the spells and talents, i have tested all, no crash.
I am using a intel i5 @3.5ghz, gtx260 super oc, 6gb ram ddr3
Windows 7 x64 bit Ultimate version 6.1 build 7600
Nvidia driver 197.45
Physx version 9.10.0513
Audio is on-board with a realtek driver version 6.0.1.6101
Also i have installed the Microsoft .NET Framework 4 (version 4.0.30319) and Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2005, Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2008 x86, Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2008 x64, Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2010 x86, Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2010 x64.
And the DirectX is the Microsoft DirectX SDK (June 2010) and the DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010) downloaded from Microsoft Download Center.
