I have no idea why.
I finally got it running and the menus lag like crazy.
Anybody have a fix?
EDIT: This is KOTOR 1 on the PC.

What are the minimum and recommended system requirements for playing KotOR?

MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:

    * Windows ME/98 128 MB RAM
    * Windows XP/2000 256 MB RAM
    * 1.0 GHz Intel Pentium III or AMD Athlon processor
    * 4 GB free hard disk space
    * 32MB OpenGL 1.4 compatible video card with 32-bit color support and Hardware T&L
    * DirectX 9.0 compatible sound card
    * DirectX 9.0 (included)
    * 4X CD-ROM drive
    * Keyboard, Mouse

RECOMMENDED:

    * 1.6 GHz or faster Intel or AMD processor
    * 512 MB RAM
    * NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti, or ATI Radeon 8500 or faster video card.

You probably have it configured wrong.  But no one will ever know, if you don't make a proper problem report.

Post your specs including operating system and driver versions. Kotor doesn't work well with newer graphics cards, recent drivers and an operating system newer than Windows XP.

Simple enough, and standard fare all across forums like this one, although as old as KotOR is now, seldom needed,

Well, it's six hours later, and there's been no update.  Did you not know how to inventory the PC you are trying to use?

Oh, sorry for not posting.

I actually dug out an older computer, and KOTOR runs perfectly on that.

A couple of years after KotOR was brand new, my neice wanted a gaming PC for her college dorm room, and asked me to set one up (her mom, my little sis, fronting the cost of the main components).  She brought it back to me for a major upgrade a year or so back, and I held onto the older components I'd installed in it about five years ago, when I took it apart this time.

Last winter, I installed the old parts, with a new power supply, into a nice case I had left over, and that's what I play NWN1 on, as well as an occasional stint of KotOR.  It sits under the computer table in here, with one of those plastic dust covers over it, and has been used a half dozen times, about, since being reassembled.

If you have a nvidia graphics adapter try this simple fix first.

Before making the change linked above, my game was riddled with random crashes that made kotor unplayable.  I never even made it to the bridge of the Endar Spire because the game either crashed before, during, or after the second combat encounter.

After making the change I was able to play the game for about an hour totally crash free and I intend to play alot more of it in the immediate future.

I am running windows 7 with a geforce 8800GT and kotor patch 1.03.
