Weird one....

I've got 3 computers at home in a local network, using a TP-Link router:  my wife's lappy (new Core 2 @ 2.1, Vista, wireless), an old AMD 1800+ (kids' homework PC, XP, line to router/modem) and my own desktop computer (Core 2 @ 2.66, XP, line to router/modem) which has DA:O installed on it.  The network has run perfectly fine since I set it up ages ago.  Now, however, after installing and playing DA:O on my desktop I now have no connectivity on that computer.  Won't detect the modem/router even though everything seems ok.  The other 2 computers are connected and working fine (I'm reporting this using the kids' computer).

This occurred immediately after installing and playing DA:O  ie i installed it in the afternoon and played much of the night, and next morning my desktop had no connectivity.  Showed no local network connection icon etc.  Confused, I took it down to a computer repairs/sales shop owned by an aquaintance.  PC hooked up fine on his network immediately, full connectivity.  I came home and shut down all computers, rebooted the modem/router and voila had connectivity back.  I play some more DA, and at the end of the session again had no connectivity....Rebooting the system (all computers and router/modem) does not work.

Anyone got any ideas about this?

I repeat, the network was working perfectly until I installed and played DA:O.  It is only the PC (out of 3 in the network) with DA:O installed on it that is affected.  If I somehow get connectivity back on the affected PC it is lost as soon as I play a session.

Any assistance much appreciated.

After much discussion this is what we suggest.

Take it back to the repair shop. Get it hooked up to the Internet like he did last time and load up DAO in windowed mode.  See if the network fails.  Posted Image

Hmmm...what if I take it down there and hook it up - it'll give me back connectivity for sure - and then simply disable/enable the connection each time I play/finish playing DA?

But I *will* try your suggestion...

My first thought was thought it might be a firewall issue somehow but that isn't the case, or at least I can't see how it would be after checking. Got McAfee AV on all computers, which hasn't ever caused me any grief, and Windows firewall is off.

Cheers!
