I've said it before, and I'll say it again...

Here's the truth, you're all being paranoid.

It's already been stated on Twitter that Bioware is adding additional content into the PS3 Version to acquaint the player with the events and story of ME1, and even if it wasn't, it's obvious.

REALITY CHECK, Bioware made the Mass Effect series to be a 3 part on-going series that connects directly and reflect the player's choices, and they wouldn't screw that up just because of one port on a console that didn't get the original game in the series.
Worst case scenario, the PS3 Version of ME3 gets toned down so that ME1's choices play a smaller role.

Here, allow me to predict the future for you all...

Ever wonder why Bioware announced a port of ME2 for PS3, but no PS3 Version of the upcoming ME3? Here's why, history is going to repeat itself. Microsoft has likely already paid EA for ME3 to be an exclusive for a year, so the PS3 Version won't come out til a year later.
So even if Bioware doesn't include some form of a save generator, a retrospective, ME Genesis, etc. Then the only version of ME3 that will be affected is the PS3 Version that won't come out until a year after the PC/360 Version, understand?

Reality Check for you Bioware also stated that ME2 will not come to PS3

obviously what Bioware says have to taken with a lot of caution and can just be stated as truth
you understand

Put it this way, if you ACTUALLY think that Bioware would gimp the 3rd entry in their series over a single port, then you're an idiot.

Bioware announced almost immediately after ME2 was released that ME3 was already in development for PC/360.

Ok, fair enough. But I'm still not convinced that it will be delayed on PS3 due to exclusivity. I guess we'll know when the first trailer or so is released.

So we can pay for DLC while they get it for free AGAIN? Don't get me wrong. I have nothing against the PS3 version getting all the current X360/PC DLC for free nor do I mind it going to the PS3. That was bound to happen anyway, and it's a given that they need something else to justify the price tag ( I think they should pay for the Liara DLC anyway though.. But we'll see). However, I do have a problem if X360 and PC users end up paying almost 100 bucks for the same stuff that the PS3 version gets for 60 AGAIN (that is the key word here). If it happens once, fine, because they need a way to increase sales on the new platform. But if they do this twice, it's simply abusing the pockets of the X360 and PC users, while they are the loyal fans.

If they release ME3 later on the PS3, I'll probably end up be pissed. Not because of waiting or whatever. I don't have a PS3 nor will I buy one. The reason is that I don't want to pay 100 for something that I could get for 60 a year later. Playing it first than another platform doesn't matter to me. Collector's editions do matter however, and if I want to buy the CE I'm basically forced to buy it close to launch at full price, and if they do the same thing again, which is letting PC and X360 users pay for DLC while the PS3 gets it completely free, I'm simply going to be pissed. It's better that they release ME3 both at the same time.

Or that the ME2 on PS3 sales fail and ME3 is never released on it.. But that probably won't happen, and I don't wish that that will happen either. However, I don't wish to be robbed of my money either. Or, ME3 will have no DLC.. (yeah right.. who am I kidding..).

DLC is a tricky beast. Long ago I bought halo legendary maps then they became free like 3 months later, I was Irate and have since sold halo and will no buy any more bungie products.

What will make me mad is if since this announcement they are planning to have Liara DLC inclusive in PS3 version.....We have to pay for it as PC/Xbox players..............that to me seems largely a kick in the groin.

A reduced price is the least they could do to soften the blow.

I'm not sure that it would be worth the money for Microsoft to pay for an exclusive window on the third game.  The people who are playing it on the 360 and PC have already invested their time and money into the first two games.  I'll probably buy the PS3 version as well because I'm a freak, but when ME3 is released I'll be picking it up for the 360 before I do for the PS3.  I would think that the majority of people feel the same.

I think that won't happen with Halo: Reach, since Forge World allows players themselves to create a lot of maps that Bungie can't charge for. I wouldn't pass up on Reach, but that's your choice.

Anyway, going back on the DLC issue, I agree about the Liara DLC. They should either let all platforms have it for free, or charge for all, because it's gonna be released after the PS3 announcement. We didn't know the PS3 announcement was coming now, and well, they can get away with charging for the previous DLC on the PC/X360 and allowing those for free on the PS3, but, now that it's known that all platforms will have the game, it's only fair if from now on all platforms get the same treatment. That is what they themselves were saying.. Giving all platforms the same experience, right? Well, they should give all platforms the same pocket experience from now on too. Liara DLC and everything after should be treated the same on all platforms.

Yeah, this is what I think as well. I think they can make more money by releasing it simultaneously. My guess is that ME3 will be announced (with updated web site and trailer and all that) for all platforms about the time for the PS3 release of ME 2. But that's just speculation on my part, obviously. Who knows what will happen, we'll see. I'm just glad I can now get a couple of friends without 360s to play this great game. :)

Reality check.

In the business world there exists things called Confidentiality agreements.  One breaks these agreements with the understanding that it means a massive law-suit coupled with cavity searches and torture.

It seems VERY likely that Bioware knew all along this game would be coming to PS3 but due to a confidentiality agreement with Microsoft they had to keep the company line of "It isn't coming to PS3" for a defined amount of time or else they'd get their asses sued into oblivion.

This cry-baby logic of "They lied to me waaa!  They can never be trusted again!!" is f-in ridiculous.

Anybody remember back before the game came out when Gamestop accidentally listed a PS3 version of ME2?

Or this arcticle from 2008?   http://ps3.ign.com/a...9/859626p1.html

Maybe they should learn to "no comment". Would save them some the time creating those misleading posts (and some unhappy customers).

Then again, they are paying full price for a game that's a year old. I'm not a fan of GOTY editions. It's just that ME 3 is in a very important stage of development, where characters are begining to become finalized. But, there was going to be a GOTY edition anyway, so its not THAT much of an inconvinience.

The only customers who have any reason to be "unhappy" are those who wanted to play ME2 on the PS3 in the first place and never thought it would be released for that platform and thus got it for pc or 360, but now feel that they should have waited for this announcement. =]

Yea this is what I mean.

The game is not a year old on the PS3 though.................I dont buy that arg one bit (refering to other posts not quoted one)

You could have bought it on PC ($20-30 in jan 11 presumably), or bought an xbox for $X and then a $30 new copy  then paid for DLC in Jan 11.

Either way is roughly 60 bucks or significantly more.

$60 bucks for a top class game is standard. They are getting previously paid for DLC, and extra content (presumably some from of ME1 choices)

That more than fair.

I think all DLC announced post PS3 announcement should be treated equally across consoles. Just IMO

PC/360 players also got Mass Effect 1 and if I'm not mistaken, that has no chance of going to PS3.

I'd say a full retail RPG is better than a 2 hour DLC. Maybe that's just me though. If they do get it for free, it's because Sony doesn't allow late ports unless they offer significant content to justify it. I don't think the crappy cerberus network DLC and Kasumi/Overlord would justify enough. Kasumi was pretty disappointing and Overlord was good but both were really short.

I already own the CE for both Xbox and PC, paid for DLC and really wouldn't care if the next DLC came free to PS3. They've had to wait a year for it.

You weren't made a fool of.

Would you people PLEASE stop acting like you have a personal relationship with the company?

Or that whatever plastic box you play games on is so vital to your self-worth that you feel "violated" because someone else will get to play a game, so you're not "special" anymore?

It wasn't an official announcement. They simply said they were working on it. No trailers, screenshots, concept art, etc. so it doesn't really count. Plenty of games were confirmed to be in development for multiple or single platforms and during the development phase, plans changed.

When they officially announce it next year (probably at E3) it will say "Coming to PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3"

They wouldn't release ME2 without ME3, it's completely pointless and quite frankly disrespectful and would probably cause PS only owners to boycott BioWare.

1.) Not everyone has a gaming quality PC.
2.) Not everyone has a friend with an Xbox 360 they can borrow.
3.) Buying a console for 1 or 2 games is stupid, if they wanted an Xbox, they'd already have one.

As Dr. Ray mentioned in one of the interviews posted here, ME3 hasn't been 'officially' announced. Well, there's a mention of it in the Mass Effect movie press release with a tentative release date, but, yeah, nothing has been said of the platforms just yet. It's safe to assume that the MS exclusivity period will run out at the end of this year, and after that Mass Effect will be fully multiplatform.

And that's where you are mistaken. The only release date of importance is the INITIAL release date. The game is going to be a year old in January, period. If the situation were reversed, would you even consider buying some year-old PS3 exclusive at full price if it was the exact same game that shipped? And even if you did, do you think Joe Sixpack would?

p.s. PC gamers got Bring Down the Sky for free with the PC version of ME1. For the same reason.

I think it would. Doesn't matter if you think it's crappy or not. It's not like there's a lack of DLC anyway. They can miss out on the Liara DLC.

I already own the CE for both Xbox and PC, paid for DLC and really wouldn't care if the next DLC came free to PS3. They've had to wait a year for it.

Me neither, as long as they give it to use for free as well. Like I said, there's not a lack of DLC. Wanna see the list? Here:

Free:
Inferno Armor (amazon pre-order)
Terminus Armor and Weapon (Gamestop and Play.com pre-order)
Sentry Interface (Dr.Pepper and 7-Eleven promotional item)
Recon Hood (Dr.Pepper and 7-Eleven promotional item)
Umbra Visor (Dr. Pepper/7-Eleven Promotional Item)
Incisor Sniper Rifle (free for digital deluxe edition, but payed in Aegis pack)
Collectors' Weapon and Armor (collector's edition only)
Blood Dragon Armor (free with Dragon Age)
Normandy Crash Site
Zaeed - The Price of Revenge
Cerberus Weapon and Armor
Cerberus Arc Projector
Firewalker Pack

Payed:
Alternate Appearance Pack (160 points)
Kasumi - Stolen Memory (560 points)
Equalizer Pack (160 points)
Overlord 560 (points)
Aegis Pack (160 points)
Firepower Pack (160 points)
Total: 1760 points

To be released:
Lair of the Shadow Broker

1760 points is around 20 dollars. That is more than enough, not to mention they can add all the exclusive shop pre-orders as well. And don't forget you also get the introduction. It's more than enough to justify a 60 buck price tag on the PS3, without the Liara DLC (aka Lair of the Shadow Broker).

I just hope that there wont be any pandering to any specific console. Thats one thing that annoys me to no end about various games that are mutliplatform. Assassins Creed for instance has had a few things PS3 exclusive. As long as we both get the same content then I see no problem with it really. Another thing I hope though is that various decisions from Mass Effect 1 aren't rendered useless in ME3 because PS3 people never had them. Things like Wrex, the Rachni, and the council are pretty significant I feel in the ME universe. Throwing them to the wind in ME3 would be kind of a let down.

Other things like love interests too are of some concern to me, obviously there's a gigantic fan base around here for Liara, I haven't seen as big a one for the other two, but I feel that regardless of whether or not you liked them, those folks should matter in ME3 along with whatever relationship you had with them.

I think that's one of the main concern actually, is that the people are worried that stuff from ME1 will barely matter in ME3.

I do think this would be a let down to PS3 users as well, because that's a huge chunk of info they're missing out on in ME2. I mean you have Liara in 2 and whether or not she's your love interest she is a rather key character in the series at this point so seeing her randomly show up if you've never played the first game you're kind of at a loss as to why she cares so much about you or why she's talking to you in the first place.

I guess the ideal thing for PS3 if ME1 will not come to the system is to have some sorta nutshell thing at the begining of the PS3 version. I believe its already confirmed there will be one. It just needs to tell you a story then I suppose have you make various decisions around this story, and then call it good.

Granted this in some ways is like jumping in at Empire Strikes Back after your friend tells you about A New Hope, but hopefully Bioware can think of a way to visually tell the story have them make the decisions and then thrust them into ME2 without them being too out of the loop.
