For the butthurt nerdragers railing against how 'unfair' this announcement is, please grow the eff up.

Porting this game to the PS3 takes nothing away from your game. If you bought the DLC, you chose to do so, and who knows if that's what the "hours of bonus content" on the disk is actually referring to. Regardless, you're out, what, $20 tops? Boo. Freakin'. Hoo. You still got to play the content WAY sooner than any PS3 owner will. It's just like going to the theater to watch a movie as opposed to waiting for it to show up on basic cable.

It's not like BioWare just said "hey guys, we're moving everything to the PS3, so you XBox and PC owners are SOL for future ME content, sucks to be you!" Really, let's keep things in perspective. Widening the consumer base is a good thing for the franchise and for the financial health of the company. Win-win, from where I'm standing.

Good, i'm glad this decision was made. PS3 owners need to play this game.

However, I am a little concerned about the ME1 save not happening on PS3. So I hope they in turn just ask you more questions so you can basically sum up a ME1 playthrough in a series of questions. Personally I don't want to play ME1 again, I just did on Xbox so I could get my ultimate playthrough for ME3. Ive played that game like 9 times.....NO MORE!!! lol (its still awesome though.)

As far as bonus content goes, as long as its not PS3 exclusive then im all for it. I just don't think it is fair to the 360 owners. The disc I hope comes will all the current DLC that is out there, I have bought all the 360 DLC thus far and would be pissed if I have to buy it all again. One good thing is the blood dragon armour, my girlfriend started the damn game before I could link my EA account to get the damn armour on it so she made a new one and now I dont have the armour, at least Ill have it now. lol

Lastly, I hope this isnt a direct port because we all know 9 out of 10 times a game made on the 360 then ported to the PS3 usually looks and runs worse in some cases. I really hope they use the Blu-Ray to its potential and actually give the game some polish to make it actually seem like a PS3 game and not a port of the Xbox360. Im not expecting it to be totally reworked or anything, I just at least want it to look and run like a high end PS3 game.

All in all, Im looking forward to more information on what the bonus content really is, and what is being done differently for the PS3 version. Just no exclusive missions or story because like I said, its not fair to the 360 owners.

to the complainers, youll get ME3 when you get it. Im sure this announcment didnt push anything back. It not like they need an entire team to bring it to the PS3. Also who really cares if it goes to the PS3? Its not a first party title and EA/Bioware don't owe anything to anyone. I think it was a smart move. Its going to make more money for the company, which can be used in developing ME3 as well as future DLC.

Good move Bioware, im looking forward to more info.

Okay, reading this thread kind of makes me sad to be a gamer.
That some of you guys are so petty as to chuck a sad about a game going to a console you don't own?

I owned both a 360 and a PS3 (until my xbox died before I got a chance to play ME2).
I played ME2 without my ME1 save and didn't care the slightest, I enjoyed the game as a new character, and read about the first stories plot on wiki as I had forgot it after playing.
Anyone that cares enough to buy this game on PS3 for the plot will look at the wiki.
Anyone that buys this game to play for enjoyment will not care so much for the plot (enough is explained anyway).

This whole brand loyalty is stupid.
Just be excited that a VIDEO GAME you LOVE will be played and loved by a whole new group of people.

Tell me, what if will turn out that PS3 sale will overshoot XBox and PC sales of ME 2 so EA will decide to made ME 3 PS 3 EXCLUSIVE?

We are still about a year from revealing ME 3 content and since conversion ME 2 to PS 3 system is underway who give us a freaking guarantee that ME 3 will not be PS 3 Exclusive like ME 1 was XBox eclusive in the beginning?

Bioware already proved that they will dance as EA will play no matter how deep they will disregard opinion his own fan base and that's rather sad turn of event.

Dude what?.. That's an amazing argument you've brought up there Ace.

There is NO WAY, that ME will ever become exclusive to the PS3.
They will make more money by keeping it mutiplatform.. EA would never release it on just the PS3, and you can damn well bet that Bioware would never do it (they have voiced their dislike for it in the past).

The worst that I can see happening with this.. is that the PS3 port of ME3 will be kind of bad.. just like everyother PS3 port.
You don't need to worry buddy.. it will never be exclusive.

Why would this make anyone lose respect for BW or ME? No, really, that's an honest question because I'm actually confused here.

I'm really interested in Bioware's response to the ME1 dilemma. That's basically what this whole thread is about, not a pointless console war as some have made it out to be.

Old "Mass Effect for PS3" topic

Chris Priestly

Mass Effect is for the PC and Xbox 360.

LOCKDOWN!

Alternate reality, I guess.

Yet the "bonus content" thingy is bothering.

What about us non-interesting-360/PC gamers ?

Mass Effect came out in 2007.  Mass Effect 2 came out in 2010.  What makes you think that Mass Effect was going to come out before 2012?  Based on that release schedule, I would guess that to have the same level of polish and quality that ME2 has, ME3 will need at least 2 years of development.

Not to mention they ave been working on DLC and other projects.  I think 2012 is a very realistic time for ME3 to come out.

NICKjnp wrote...

We are going to have to wait an extra year for ME3.

Well they are going to have to tack on a year to port ME2 on the PS3 and it adds time to develop the PS3 version of ME3 alongside the PC/360 versions.

Do we know that for certain Nick? It could be that they'll just hire extra help to do the work. There's certainly an economic justification for the additional personnel. I can't imagine it would be the same people doing the original content development anyway.

I think that it needs to be clarified to some in this thread that people are not pissed off at the fact that the Mass Effect series is no longer an Xbox exclusive in terms of console availability. In actuality, people have legitimate concerns that the implications of ME2 being ported to PS3, that hypothetically neglects to include the ability to import your savegame from ME1 or have any choices from the first game have any effect at all, means that any decisions made in ME1 will have a minimal effect on ME3 and the rest of the trilogy in general. In general, I don't think people particularly care about console exclusivity or are fanboys of their console of choice. Rather, it's the implication of this announcement that any choices or decisions from ME1 will be largely redundant, and will not have any effect on subsequent games in the trilogy at all.

I think that their concerns are more than warranted, personally.

I'm thinking... Why the hell would I buy it for my PS3 if I can't import Mass Effect 2 save? The one where Wrex is alive and bug race is salvaged but overall Shepard is a douchebag?

To summarize: no, I won't buy it for PS3. Well, unless you include the whole Mass Effect 1 on the same blu-ray.

What a bunch of selfish children on this forum. Microsoft still owns part of ME1. Who the **** cares if more people get to play this amazing game. Shut up with their loyalty to xbox its a console!!! People need to get over it more people will play this game that you feel your so entitled to. Please just be happy more people can play the ME games

It's not necessarily about a 'Console War' (I could care less about the XBox vs. PS crap).  The concern is that if one console isn't even going to have Mass Effect 1, the choices made in that game might become almost null and void in Mass Effect 3 across the board....for PC, for XBox, for ME3 in general.

I'm assuming they will create Mass Effect 3 similarly for all the three consoles now (PS3/XBox360/PC) therefore, the things you did way back in ME1 just won't matter hardly at all, as they aren't important for PS3 users.

This.  Exactly this.

Agreed. I don't care about what console it goes to. I care about the precedent porting the 2nd game of a "trilogy" to a new system sets. Waaaaaay back in 2007, a heavy importance was put on decisions made in Mass Effect. We were told all these wonderful thinga about how these decisions would carry through, and effect all three games. Porting ME2 to PS3 basically proves that nothing that happened in ME1 matters. I wish BiowEAr would just come out and admit it so all of us who still foolishly care about our ME1 romances could finally let go and move on with our lives.

Honestly, as a fan of the series, I think that this is great news, since it means that more people will get to enjoy this awesome series. I personally have quite a few friends who have been wanting to play this series but haven't yet since they largely game on their PS3s (and don't have good enough PCs to run it on), so this is great news for them.

That being said, I think it's far too early to assume just what exactly the PS3 players are going to get with their version of ME 2. I mean, Bioware could simply add dialogue in the beginning of the game that asks you who you saved, who you let die, and so on for the major choices in the first game (which could be done in the conversation you have with Miranda during the shuttle ride towards the Illusive Man in the beginning of ME 2), so that PS3 players could still get to decide those major consequences without having to play the first game.

"As he said above, Mass Effect 2 is for the PC and Xbox 360 only."

Dispensing with the whole "fool me once..." trope, we should have started sprinkling salt on Bioware promises since "ME will never appear on PC", now we know for sure. I'm not a console flamer, I don't really care one way or the other so long as I can play the game, but Bioware really doesn't have to make these declarative statements only to break them less than a year later, its unproductive.
