Anyone who played Mass Effect 1?

I have mass effect 1 & 2 on PC. I don't care!

So why did you play ME1 if you don't care how it affects ME2?  Why didn't you just get ME2?  Oh wait, because you DO care what choices you made and how they affect the story.  That's the entire point of this game series, an option that PS3 users won't get to have, which suddenly makes all the choices that Xbox and PC users made in ME1 less likely to be relevant when they make ME3.

For the butthurt nerdragers railing against how 'unfair' this announcement is, please grow the eff up.

Porting this game to the PS3 takes nothing away from your game. If you bought the DLC, you chose to do so, and who knows if that's what the "hours of bonus content" on the disk is actually referring to. Regardless, you're out, what, $20 tops? Boo. Freakin'. Hoo. You still got to play the content WAY sooner than any PS3 owner will. It's just like going to the theater to watch a movie as opposed to waiting for it to show up on basic cable.

It's not like BioWare just said "hey guys, we're moving everything to the PS3, so you XBox and PC owners are SOL for future ME content, sucks to be you!" Really, let's keep things in perspective. Widening the consumer base is a good thing for the franchise and for the financial health of the company. Win-win, from where I'm standing.

You know, I'd agree with you, except for the fact that things like this have happened before where the 360 version of a game was nothing but a giant beta test.  Then they move it to PS3, fix every little thing thats wrong with it, add in a few new locations, maybe a few more interesting people that add to the story (Think ME Galaxy there), now wrap that all up with new content/exclusive content that the 360 owners will never see, ala Tales of Vesperia, Batman Arkham Asylam, etc, and give the PS3 version content never playable by the 360 owners.

Furthermore, it feels like the 360 owners are not only ripped off by the PS3 version because often times it will come with free DLC that we paid for and it seems like not only a rip off but like we funded the whole PS3 version by buying all their ****.

"As he said above, Mass Effect 2 is for the PC and Xbox 360 only."

Dispensing with the whole "fool me once..." trope, we should have started sprinkling salt on Bioware promises since "ME will never appear on PC", now we know for sure. I'm not a console flamer, I don't really care one way or the other so long as I can play the game, but Bioware really doesn't have to make these declarative statements only to break them less than a year later, its unproductive.

And where does it say it will remain an exclusive for the Xbox and PC?

I wish BiowEAr would just come out and admit it so all of us who still foolishly care about our ME1 romances could finally let go and move on with our lives.

That would be nice.  They won't do it, as they want you to buy ME3.

I want some one from bioware to tell us point blank if our ME1 choices still matter now. I mean since the PS3 version will only be based off ME2's choices. If the ME1 choices don't matter anymore, then I really don't care what system ME3 comes out for.

Do you honestly think that Bioware the best developer ever, can screw things like our past decisions up?

They will easily make a way for us to implement some of the 'choices' from the original game.

Mass Effect came out in 2007.  Mass Effect 2 came out in 2010.  What makes you think that Mass Effect was going to come out before 2012?  Based on that release schedule, I would guess that to have the same level of polish and quality that ME2 has, ME3 will need at least 2 years of development.

Not to mention they ave been working on DLC and other projects.  I think 2012 is a very realistic time for ME3 to come out.

NICKjnp wrote...

We are going to have to wait an extra year for ME3.

Well they are going to have to tack on a year to port ME2 on the PS3 and it adds time to develop the PS3 version of ME3 alongside the PC/360 versions.

Do we know that for certain Nick? It could be that they'll just hire extra help to do the work. There's certainly an economic justification for the additional personnel. I can't imagine it would be the same people doing the original content development anyway.

As I recall... Dragon Age took an extra year to port to the consoles.  The PS3 is known for being difficult to develop on.  I'm not saying one year to port... I'm saying an extra year to port ME2 AND develop ME3.  I don't care if they get the bonus content (current DLC).  I have a job and paying $20 for microsoft points isn't an issue.  I'm conserned that the paragon decisions I made in ME1 are going to be obsolete.... because that would negate ME1.  I have both consoles... so I'm not a fanboy.

Also... exclusives are what make games stand out games.  I think that the ME franchise was lessened by this announcement.

Why would this make anyone lose respect for BW or ME? No, really, that's an honest question because I'm actually confused here.

Because gamers feel they're entitled to the right of being able to play games that others aren't able to play.  <_<

When Chris Priestly announced that Bioware had no plans to release these games on PS3, I don't think he made that announcement whilst twirling his evil mastermind mustache, knowing full well that a PS3 version will be out by January. It's entirely possible they had no such plans, and then decided to make such plans.

Think about all the people with just a PS3, who would have no hope of ever experiencing the mass effect universe. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.

I don't really see a downside. Do you think you got less of a value because they're getting bonuses with theirs? I'm pretty sure Jesus himself says don't be like that (I think his parable involves a farmer leaving people in charge of his land and paying them differently, instead of video games, but you get the idea). (If Christianity is not your thing, just think of Jesus as a hugely popular philosopher)

I doubt development of ME3 will become shallower because of the PS3 release. I admittedly don't know jack about game development, but I would think it's quite a stretch to imagine the writing team sitting down and thinking, "let's implement this bit of story....OH shoot, the new PS3 players can't possibly have Wrex alive". To be honest I don't know how ME3 is going to tie in to the others, and I don't know how/if PS3 players will be given a chance to construct their own outcomes to ME1. I DO know (actually I'm guessing) this. Selling ME2 to more people is a good thing. I would think having more money in their pockets would help development of ME3 greatly. Also, knowing that there's a rabid fan base eagerly awaiting their next product should eliminate the need to make a "safe" game, and really let them write whatever they feel is fun and right.

Then again, Madden happens...so I don't know

OFT

And if its free for PS3 users (or rather inclusive in the standard price) does it them become free on XBL? Do consumers get a refund? It's not quite as analagous to suggest its simply a matter of waiting from a movie to HBO although I admit your point has some veracity.

With planned DLC in the future Liara, bridged ME2-ME3 DLC, etc your looking at upwards of the cost of another game.

The biggest issue/question is this.

As a loyal customer (Xbox or 360) what incentive do you have to pay for DLC again?

I'm failing to see where the content lost monetary value in the transition to PS3

I'm really interested in Bioware's response to the ME1 dilemma. That's basically what this whole thread is about, not a pointless console war as some have made it out to be.

There won't be a response.

We had better get an update for the Liara DLC sometime soon to help calm the $h1t storm Bioware has started, and it damn well better be good. Sorry I'm okay with this going multiplatform but I do feel betrayed because BW stated multiple times that this will not go to the Ps3, well what happend to that bioware hmmmm? I think the answer to that is..... EA!

That dev mention of Mass Effect 2 on "PC, Xbox 360 and PS3" and the little bit of specialized PS3 code in the game now make total sense...

I'm not complaining that it's going to PS3, but then just release the game on all platforms simultaneously instead of giving the larger part of your existing fanbase the feeling they just got robbed by giving the PS3 version exclusive content.
