Let's wait and see if Konami ports over MGS4+.

Mass Effect came out in 2007. Mass Effect 2 came out in 2010. What makes you think that Mass Effect was going to come out before 2012? Based on that release schedule, I would guess that to have the same level of polish and quality that ME2 has, ME3 will need at least 2 years of development.
Not to mention they ave been working on DLC and other projects. I think 2012 is a very realistic time for ME3 to come out.NICKjnp wrote...
We are going to have to wait an extra year for ME3.
Well they are going to have to tack on a year to port ME2 on the PS3 and it adds time to develop the PS3 version of ME3 alongside the PC/360 versions.
Do we know that for certain Nick? It could be that they'll just hire extra help to do the work. There's certainly an economic justification for the additional personnel. I can't imagine it would be the same people doing the original content development anyway.
As I recall... Dragon Age took an extra year to port to the consoles. The PS3 is known for being difficult to develop on. I'm not saying one year to port... I'm saying an extra year to port ME2 AND develop ME3. I don't care if they get the bonus content (current DLC). I have a job and paying $20 for microsoft points isn't an issue. I'm conserned that the paragon decisions I made in ME1 are going to be obsolete.... because that would negate ME1. I have both consoles... so I'm not a fanboy.
Also... exclusives are what make games stand out games. I think that the ME franchise was lessened by this announcement.
I tend to be in the opposite camp, I think everything should be available on every platform (I would not own an XBox if it weren't for Mass Effect, all my other games are PS3). I have some concerns about how this will be implemented also, and how it will affect the development timeline, but overall I think it opens up the game to a new audience and I do like that aspect of it. Until I know for sure what this announcement means for the future of the ME franchise, I'm going to focus on the positive aspects of it.
You know we don't always agree, but I still love you Nick.

Most, if not all people, who post on this board already own the game. I just hope this doesn't screw over the ETA on Mass Effect 3. According to Bioware, Dragon Age and Mass Effect are supposed to be on accelerated development schedules. Dragon Age 2 is scheduled for early 2011. Most of us expect Mass Effect 3 around Fall 2011 at the latest. Certain statements in the past have hinted that the wait between ME2 and ME3 would be a short one.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but when they ported ME1 to the PC, didn't they use somebody out of house to do that? If that continues to be true I don't see why it would delay ME3. I guess it's pure speculation on my part though, just throwing it out there

Hopefully the exclusive content won't include any exclusive mission based content. If so, even that could be remedied by releasing it on XBL...free. Then 'exclusive' part could only mean that instead of downloadable, the content is exclusively native to the PS3's Blue Ray disc. Sort of how the Cerberus network is exclusive to new purchases of ME2, but still available to download on XBL. That scenario means that the content will be released on XBL after the game is released on PS3. Which is good in my opinion because it means there is more DLC coming after LotSB.
The exclusive content could also be a stop gap for the purpose of smoothing over the lack of availablity to play ME1 on PS3. It has been exhaustively pointed out that many of the decisions made in ME1 affect how ME2 unfolds. It could come down to a more exhaustive character creator (as difficult as that is to imagine) to include some of the storyline and import some of those decisions with out playing the game. Also the strength of the ME1 character carries over to ME2 somewhat. I could be that something like Pinnicale Station is included to bolster Shepard's stats. The least likely (but very feasable considering the Blue Ray medium) make up of the content is ME1 itself. Couldn't think of a better way to move units than a 'two for'. Though the graphical leap from ME1 to ME2 could leave the graphic spoiled, gameplay deprived (sorry it's true) PS3 owners confused or unenthusiatic.
Personally, the main reason I don't own a PS3, now that the price is manageable, is because I completely loathe the controller. I hope the manner that the additional content is handled does not alienate those of us that do not own a PS3. I doubt it though. Bioware is obviously personned with very competent and thoughtful staff, so I'm sure however this is handled will be satifactory to both exclusive owners of PS3 and XBOX360.

Hm. That doesn't really assuage my concerns. If the bonus content makes it that much easier for ME2 to actually be the starting point for the series for PS3 users that's even worse. Because then it's like ME1 didn't happen. Which is the main concern here - choices from ME1 carrying over to ME3.

I guess this confirms all those hours I poured into ME1 was a waste. We will be lucky if Kaidan, Liara, Ash, and Wrex make a cameo appearance in ME3. But I dont blame Bioware for this, no EA are the culprits here.
Never considered this. This actually scares me a lot now

This may be possible with relatively brief scenarios from ME1 being playable, in the form of interactive excerpts from the original game.

Bioware and me is a love hate relationship. But since the "big international event (only available in USA)" they don't stop disapointing me. Guess Evil Art finally got a hold onto their souls.

And even if the ps3 players cant enjoy Me1...I'm always happy if there is one exclusive less one the market! Exclusive games restricted to one plattform are the most terrible thing about the whole plattform war...all games should be available for every gamer (if the Hardware makes it possible of course).

Who? Who are those people? Is Ashley that girl that was in it for 20 seconds just to yell at my Shepard? Yeah. Screw her. She's just a minor character anyway. ...what's that? She was pretty prominent in ME1? What's ME1? I just have PS3 and there's no such thing to my knowledge. Oh well.

This .
It isn't the Ps3 port in ITSELF that makes people worry . Unless there is a mean for Ps3 users to make some choices à la Kotor 2

Yeah, that's the big concern most have, though back in the day, BW claimed the characters of Kaidan, Liara, Ashley were kept out of ME2 to 'save' them for ME3. That could be horsecrap though.
