We had better get an update for the Liara DLC sometime soon to help calm the $h1t storm Bioware has started, and it damn well better be good. Sorry I'm okay with this going multiplatform but I do feel betrayed because BW stated multiple times that this will not go to the Ps3, well what happend to that bioware hmmmm? I think the answer to that is..... EA!

You actually have no right whatsoever to feel betrayed. Bioware provided a game for $60. You bought that game. Played it.

You're owed nothing else. Nowhere did they ever say "360 and PC exclusive in perpetuity." You had your exclusivity (as I had mine) for a year.

I for one am pumped that I will finally have one of my favorite games ever on my platform of choice. I would really like for ME1 to be ported over too, but in the event that doesn't happen, here's an idea: let us import a ME1 PC save. PS3 lets you throw your saves onto a USB drive, copy them to your PC and vice versa, so why doesn't Bioware have ME2 read in a PC save off a USB drive? Maybe they would have to write a program to package the ME1 PC save into a ME2 PS3 data file, but that would be very easy to do. If they're not going to give us a ME1 port, I think this would be the most ideal solution for all parties.

Blue Ray is a more robust medium. Plain and simple, it can store more info than DVD. That and that the game is being released almost an entire year later on the PS3 mean it almost has to come with more content than the XBOX release. Likely the additional content will include some or all of the pay DLC previously released on XBL. That could be seen as a bit of a betrayal by the faithful XBOX owners, but again this game has been available much longer for them than the faithful PS3 owners, so there must be an incentive to purchase.

Hopefully the exclusive content won't include any exclusive mission based content. If so, even that could be remedied by releasing it on XBL...free. Then 'exclusive' part could only mean that instead of downloadable, the content is exclusively native to the PS3's Blue Ray disc. Sort of how the Cerberus network is exclusive to new purchases of ME2, but still available to download on XBL. That scenario means that the content will be released on XBL after the game is released on PS3. Which is good in my opinion because it means there is more DLC coming after LotSB.

The exclusive content could also be a stop gap for the purpose of smoothing over the lack of availablity to play ME1 on PS3. It has been exhaustively pointed out that many of the decisions made in ME1 affect how ME2 unfolds. It could come down to a more exhaustive character creator (as difficult as that is to imagine) to include some of the storyline and import some of those decisions with out playing the game. Also the strength of the ME1 character carries over to ME2 somewhat. I could be that something like Pinnicale Station is included to bolster Shepard's stats. The least likely (but very feasable considering the Blue Ray medium) make up of the content is ME1 itself. Couldn't think of a better way to move units than a 'two for'. Though the graphical leap from ME1 to ME2 could leave the graphic spoiled, gameplay deprived (sorry it's true) PS3 owners confused or unenthusiatic.

Personally, the main reason I don't own a PS3, now that the price is manageable, is because I completely loathe the controller. I hope the manner that the additional content is handled does not alienate those of us that do not own a PS3. I doubt it though. Bioware is obviously personned with very competent and thoughtful staff, so I'm sure however this is handled will be satifactory to both exclusive owners of PS3 and XBOX360.

It's probably a retelling of Mass Effect Galaxy or a set of prologue missions involving characters on the ME universe.  Liara, Ash(or Kaiden), Garrus, and Tali that will go over the events and decisions of ME1 that could play a crucial roll in ME3.

I guess this confirms all those hours I poured into ME1 was a waste. We will be lucky if Kaidan, Liara, Ash, and Wrex make a cameo appearance in ME3. But I dont blame Bioware for this, no EA are the culprits here.

Who?  Who are those people?  Is Ashley that girl that was in it for 20 seconds just to yell at my Shepard?  Yeah. Screw her.  She's just a minor character anyway.   ...what's that?  She was pretty prominent in ME1?  What's ME1?  I just have PS3 and there's no such thing to my knowledge.  Oh well.

Sad. But so true *this quote FTW

Never considered this.   This actually scares me a lot now  :o :crying:

Yeah, that's the big concern most have, though back in the day, BW claimed the characters of Kaidan, Liara, Ashley were kept out of ME2 to 'save' them for ME3.   That could be horsecrap though.

Sounds like to me now mate,  how can they possibly give them a large role in ME3 now.  Its just going to leave all those new PS3 players confused.   When they get to Horison they will have no clue whats going on there! Let alone anything big for ME3

As I recall... Dragon Age took an extra year to port to the consoles.  The PS3 is known for being difficult to develop on.

DA was a custom Bio engine developed for PC.

ME2 is on a cross-platform engine that's produced many PS3 titles.

This development was fait accompli from the very day Bioware announced DAO for PS3 -- all that console-specific expertise they were acquiring wasn't going to be wasted on just the one franchise.

Jesus people...MICROSOFT! owns the publishing rights to Me1...EA only owns the publishing rights for all games that came out after they bought Bioware and the games Bioware published by themself.

And even if the ps3 players cant enjoy Me1...I'm always happy if there is one exclusive less one the market! Exclusive games restricted to one plattform are the most terrible thing about the whole plattform war...all games should be available for every gamer (if the Hardware makes it possible of course).

100% agree

Seconded.

Furthermore. There's nothing stopping BW from creating an original prologue based on ME (cut scenes and pieces of chat with decision trees) that cover the major bases. Could do it in less than an hour of playtime.

We certainly didn't buy ME for the combat.

Interesting news to say the least. Not sure I like how all this sounds though.

The PS3 getting ME2 to me isn’t a big deal, its irritating but not a real issue but the fact that they wont likely get to play ME1 seems rather stupid to even do this system jump. The Mass Effect trilogy is just that, a trilogy. One that should be played from the first game to the third to experience the full story. The PS3 gamer crowd are now only getting part of this story.

Even if they add a multiple choice “test” to select the outcomes from the first game it will rob the PS3 gamers the full experience that was Mass Effect 1. Will the average player, who hasn’t played the first game even know what these decisions mean or how they got to the point to even make that decision?

-Who do you save on Virmire or how you deal with Wrex?
-Anderson or Udina?
-Save or let the Council die?
-Your love interest choice if any.
-All the cameo appearances that you get in ME2 and how they got there and the choice we ME1 players made for each of them.

If you didn’t play the first game none of those choices will be anything but meaningless names or events.

My real problem with this PS3 porting of ME2 is the that feels like another quick money making attempt by EA to milk Mass Effect 2 of every cent they can out of it. I expect to hear a Wii version coming by next Christmas now.

With this announcement we can now expect to see Mass Effect 3 on the PS3 as well I suppose. I can already see system exclusive items for each for ME3 like Soul Calibur 4 (Yoda on the 360 or Vader on the PS3) and Dead Space (by downloads the exclusive armor) to name just two games that quickly coma to mind.

“We are very proud to announce today that Mass Effect 2 will be coming to the Playstation 3 in January 2011. The PS3 edition will include the full Mass Effect 2 game and hours of bonus content. “

It will be interesting to see just what this bonus content will consist. Will it be a slap in the face to the PC and X-Box 360 crowd with exclusive PS3 content or something else like them getting all the Cerberus Network content included in the game? Tread lightly on this BioWare.

"As he said above, Mass Effect 2 is for the PC and Xbox 360 only."

Dispensing with the whole "fool me once..." trope, we should have started sprinkling salt on Bioware promises since "ME will never appear on PC", now we know for sure. I'm not a console flamer, I don't really care one way or the other so long as I can play the game, but Bioware really doesn't have to make these declarative statements only to break them less than a year later, its unproductive.

And where does it say it will remain an exclusive for the Xbox and PC?

That's a lawyer's trick, yes that particular statement is rendered such that it accords them with a window of amiguity just large enough to feign charges of deception. But the implication of it, and many other statements they've made over the years is crystal clear: that ME would never appear on PS3, just as it would never appear on PC. Bioware knew when they made htose statements that they weren't true, and that's what I'm disappointed by, just be honest and true to the fans who've kept you alive when so many of your competitors have failed over the past decade.

Let's not beat around the bush, anyone who is genuinely interested in the kind of games Bioware produces already has owned an Xbox or a 360 or a PC already. People who bleed Sony black aren't likely to have played Throne of Bhaal, let alone ME. If they want to expand their vista of audience, great, but at least be straightforward with your existing fans. You want to keep the PS3 port announcement under wraps? At least respond with "no comment", that'll earn you genuine deniability later, as opposed to pseudo-backpedaling as in the quoted comment.

If these "hours of bonus content" are not something that is introduced to PC and 360 - at least at some stage - things will go to hell.

I think a lot of people are freaking out for nothing due to even more people jumping to conclusions. The ONLY thing we know for sure is that ME 2 will be released on PS3 with some sort of bonus content.

We DO NOT know if ME 1 is involved... I would assume EA's thirst for money would say that it will most likely be brought over in some capacity.

We DO NOT know if this will have ANYTHING to do with ME 3. As it is the only differences in ME 2 from the "Default Story" or "The Continued Story" are the cut scenes and dialogue choices. Ashley and Wren are still there but in the default story they have never met before so the conversation is more about what happened right then and there. It is not out of bounds to think that ME 3 would work the same way cause no issues for those who played 1 and 2 and want to continue in 3.

For those who are freaking out about "Paid for DLC" being included on the disc, you do realize that happens a lot right? Those who purchased Fallout 3 or Elder Scrolls Oblivion paid $10 each for the 5 DLC packs on Fallout 3 and $30 for the add on for Oblivion on the PSN and XBox Live networks, then the GAME OF THE YEAR EDITION came out a few years later for full price ($59.99) and included all of the DLC. As we pay a premium often times for convenience we also pay more to get stuff EARLY.

We have all played ME 2 for almost a year now, downloaded the DLC and are eagerly awaiting "Lair of the Shadow Broker" it's not off base or uncalled for to have all that included in the PS3 edition to justify paying $59.99 for an "Old" game.

This fanboy stuff has gone long enough!

1. Why does it really matter if people with only PS3's get the chance to buy this game? Does it really affect the games of those who have it for PC/360? Will your Shepard die? NO! so let them enjoy it

2. If I'm not mistaken, since Sony has a policy that all games ported to their consoles, after the original release date for that region, has to have extra DLC in the game, that may explain why they are adding that stuff in the PS3 version, not because they hate you. Plus, it will most likely be the DLC thats has been, and will be released from now 'til then, cause I doubt they will release exclusive story DLC.

3. Yes, ME might not be released for PS3 cause MS has the publishing rights(if I'm not mistaken), but i'ts not like it's the end of the world. I'm sure you'll you'll find a way around that problem.

4. When will the shadow broker DLC be released, hopefully before then end of summer vacation.

So please people, leave BW alone. And keep up the good work BW.
