To be honest ME isn't that long of a game, I got busy mostly with side missions but the main game would be, three missions and bam.... Vermire than Ilos/Citadel than The End lol...

I'd say... Put the main missions as an introduction thing and that's it, it's not the full game and it's done, make it like some Special Edition kind of thing. Actually make it even better by using the new ME2 system for game play, and I would most probably buy it for both systems... 360 again along with the PS3 as well.

Oh, and the new name could be something like: Mass Effect: Origins... LOL, very original right? just kidding on the origin part.

This. I think my first runthrough on casual just to see the story, took me about around 6 hours. No side quests or anything. And alot of that was figuring out where everything was on the citadel. Not like most side quests got imported properly anyway. (conrad, consot, exo-geni, etc)

Although, if i was EA, id make an ultimatum, let us put ME 1 on the ps3 or we make like madden a ps3 exclusive. Then again im a PC gamer so i'm kind of a jerk

Well ME1 is a major chapter in the whole tale, undeniably. It'll be interesting to see how they handle back story player choices for the PS3 game but any way you slice it there's nothing like playing the full first game. Mind you PS3 players will probably not be all "WTF?" when they see that many ME1 choices have little to no impact in ME2. I mean it was more of a shock if you actually played through those choices. For that matter they'll be spared ME1's glitches, the annoying Mako, having to sort through a gazillion different ammo types, mission environments that are near identical one to the next, elevators...

But then again...Awesome story, full on Biotics, Wrex as a squad member, Liara side boob (yes THAT side boob that whipped Fox News into a frenzy), optional helmet off, ability to crouch, Tali all young and excited to be on the Normandy...Yeah, PS3 owners will miss out on that too.

However, have any of you heard of the rumors of Mass Effect Genesis, from NeoGAF. Its an exclusive Mass Effect game on PS3 apparently, and i think its exactly Mass Effect 1, with hardly any differences at all, except it has Genesis in its name so its not technically owned by Microsoft, therefore it can be released on PS3.

This is very similar to what Ninja Gaiden Sigma did, it was owned by MS, so they put Sigma in the name, with some minor tweaks, and were able to release it on PS3.

If this is the case, then its safe to get the Mass Effect series on PS3. If not, then buy a 360, or get a good PC.

Well congrats on selling the last part of your soul BioWare.

No loyalty anymore it seems.

No Loyalty?
I take it u own a 360 then?
Bioware never prefered any platform its just that ea has bought the rights to distribute ME2 to the playstation
if u notice dragon age and Warhammer 50k are sold for ALL PLATFORMS

I think we've all heard that rumor, but I've really seen it nowhere else but that one place. No one else has picked up on it. Investigated it...confirmed it...or even really repeated it.

So at this point most people would say a rumor (or wishful thinking) is all it is.

That said, it's certainly not impossible. Hell, you could put ME/ME2 on the same single disk if you wanted and not even have to use a dual layer BD50.

I have a PS3, therefore I own the mass effect series on the PC. I am glad to see ME2 coming out on PS3 as I may not worry about updating my PC in 2011/12 so I can continue the story. However, if you can't play the first game, then I think it defeats the point as I love seeing my decisions play out in the 2nd, and eventually the third game. Hopefully they allow people to customize their PS3 Shepard's by allowing what major decisions play into the game. I hated how the defaults for ME2 was literally all renegade options.

Also I would be willing to pay for ME2 again if they add some cool new stuff exclusive for the PS3 version!

I'm a former 360 owner who bought a PS3 after my 360 died for the fourth time. The only regret I had in trading in my 360 was the fact that I would not get to play Mass Effect again (which is my favorite game series ever). I even reconsidered buying another xbox after i got my ps3, one of the main reasons to play mass effect again. So the news that ME2 is coming to PS3 is amazing news for me!

I have full faith in Bioware, I've never played a bad Bioware game that they will create a fulfilling experience that doesnt completely rob PS3 players of the whole package that is the Mass Effect series. Personally all I want is to have the option of who I romanced and Wrex to be alive and well. (Conrad Verner is an added bonus).

i also think that the rumors of mass effect 1 being released under a different name is completely false considering microsoft's comments. I think the most likely solution to the missing mass effect 1 dilemma is a introduction (most likely a cinematic) introducing shepard and the story thus far to the audience and then just expanding miranda's interview with shepard at the start. The hours of extra content has to be the DLC that has been released thus far as much as i would love a short mass effect 1 using the mass effect 2 game mechanics.

Yeah but NeoGAF also predicted ME2 would come to PS3 the day before it was annonounced, so they are more reliable than most sites.

One of the worst announcements ever, so shocked that it reminded me when final fantasy went to sony. I guess everyone needs money though. At least my friends will get to see what a great game this is. :crying:

All I can say to this is . . .

WAT

I thought Mass Effect was exclusive to the Xbox. I'd be very mad if ME3 was only made for the PS3 and not the xbox . . .

I'm happy about this. I played the hell out of ME2 for my 360, but will probably buy it again for my PS3. It's my "main" system, and I've been itching to play it again.

Sigh.

ME3 will be multiplatform.

EA doesn't do "exclusives." They want as much money from as many streams as they can get.

Terrible idea. What are you guys counting on? A bunch of people buying the game twice? I don't think people are going to be interested in playing the second game without the first. The story is going to confuse them, not to mention the decisions in the first game. There are quite a few conversations with people from the first game in the second. Depending on your choices through the first they may not even be there. Unless you're going to give someone the chance to choose all the different choices at the beginning of the game, which would confuse the gamer not familiar with ME1, and doesn't seem viable at all.

ME1 had a better storyline and atmosphere than ME2. ME2 had better gameplay but it's story sucked. There may be some people that played the first on PC or Xbox360 that broke and haven't played ME2 and have a PS3 but I think that's reaching. I don't see how this could be profitable. ME is a RPG, and I don't see how people will be engaged with just ME2's story and universe. ME1 was more engaging and felt more real and taught you a lot about all the different races and this vast universe you were in. ME2 doesn't have any of that.

The sad thing is that if it is profitable and ME3 is released for PS3 the choices made in ME1 that would influence the story may be marginalized in favor of making the ME2 choices matter more so PS3 users have as much to do as the Xbox or PC owners making it equal. You'd also have to spend more time and money developing the game with the separate options on both versions, unless you just focused on ME2 choices.

If Genesis was a real game, they would have announced it. ME2 is coming in January. Genesis would have to be on the disc (which they probably would have announced also) or would release before ME2. Neither happened.

It was way more interesting with Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 - Microsoft published the game and also owned it as ip (Ninja Gaiden 2 only, not the series name itself), in fact it was same situation as with Mass Effect 1.
So they actually remade Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 to the point that it was another game and they couldn't be sued by Microsoft. I can see Bioware porting the first Mass Effect for PS3 and including it on ME2 disk, but cutting out all the filler - like boring sidequests and exploring bland planets in Mako. And you get promised hours of bonus content - ME1 with all **** cut out only juicy parts remaining.

Not neccasarily, maybe they havnt worked out the kinks yet.

Mass Effect 2 is more important though, as it needs the sales, so theyd work on that first, with ME3 coming along.

Since ME2 will be on PS3 as well, will there be ME2 related items like avatars, PS Home items or personal spaces, PS home public spaces, back ground wallpapers and all of that stuff available too? Also... Will the ME2 comic book be available on PSP digital comic store? That would be cool... specially the comics on the PSP, I would like to add that to my collection too.

You will be able too.

I got Dragon Age on my PS3, and i was able to download blood dragon armour for ME2 on xbox 360.

Its linked to your bioware account, not xbox live or PSN.

Do you guys think Lotsb will be included in the PS3 version? I played ME1 on the PC and I am eager to see her again ME2 when I get it for the PS3. (Can't play ME2 on PC due to system requirement)

I hope EA doesn't ruin Bioware. This is so illogical considering the whole lure of the ME game franchise is the ability to import your previous saves.

I wonder if the PS3 version of ME3 will launch at the same time as the 360 version.
