Can
you just clear what you meant by that.I might have misunderstood what
it meant,if so I'm sorry for having the wrong impression about you.

I would have felt it was self explanatory, as a PS3 owner you will be getting the content so it isn't an issue for you.  So you "cannot" see what the problem is with this content being PS3 exclusive.  There have been plenty of posts in here stating it is wrong to exclude the PS3 from getting Mass Effect 1 (which I agree
is wrong).  Yet the general tone from many PS3 users is that it is
acceptable for the PS3 to get exclusive content at PC/360 users expense.

I
feel that the 6 hour content should be multiplatform, unless it is a
method to further tell the ME1 story.Bioware has not said anything about
exclusivity and neither is exclusivity mentioned in the original
post.Time will tell, all we can do is wait for clarification from
Bioware.

I wouldn't hold my
breath for clarification from Bioware they have an awful history of
communicating with their customers.  I am reminded of the situation
where they basically told Polish, Czech and Hungarian users about the
last DLC being incompatible with their game.  The attitude was "tough luck live with it matey" from Bioware.

What incentive does a PS3 owner have to buy a two year old game at full price for Sony's platform, versus buying it for 10 dollars on eBay?  It's about money. I can't stand the fact that you believe they're getting "a more complete game". The game was released on Xbox 360 and PC. It was complete. Additionals modules were released for a price. Now PS3 owners will be paying full price for two year old software with additional modules and an exclusive module so that it seems more attractive than pirating it off TPB or buying it for 10 dollars off eBay.

Ok please tell me how Mass Effect 2 suddenly became a 2 year old game ?  It was released on the PC/360 in January 2010 and will be released on the PS3 in January 2011.  Now I admit maths isn't my strong suit but that comes in at ONE year.  As for pirating Mass Effect 2 on the PS3   I was led to believe by PS3 users that piracy is non-existent on the PS3 ......... are they lying ?

There is plenty of incentive for those that haven't played Mass Effect 2 to play it on their favourite system.  The exclusive introductory module + all the DLC released to date is a fantastic package for PS3 users and they would be quite idiotic to pass that up.  However including extra content at the expense of PC/360 users is just as "wrong" as with holding Mass Effect 1 from PS3 users.

The incentive for buying the 1 year old game is that presumably they don't already own it and it comes with 20 of whatever currency for free.
Adding any significant content to a story-driven game like ME2 after release makes copy's of the game without the content less complete as they lack part of the story, like tearing a page out of a book.
As for pirating it I don't have the slightest idea what your on about. If they have a PC that can run the game and they don't want to buy it they've probably downloaded it already, or if your talking about pirating on the PS3 well then your a moron as that's completely impossible.

Waa waa boo hoo incentives shmentives. The game is as good today as it was the day it was released. Who cares if you get it late? You're finally getting it, and if the German dudebro is right you're also getting all the awesome DLC packaged in.

No developer should be expected to give 'incentives' to a particular fanbase just because the game is twelve months late. Stuff that. Fans of the games are all equal, regardless of what platform they play on, or when they play it. Because of that, all fans should be entitled to experiencing new game content.

If this six hour mission is exclusive to the PS3 I probably wont buy Mass Effect 3. Sorry, BioWare, but platform exclusive game content is one of the worst trends of this generation. It hurts the consumers, and its insulting to the fans.

For this generation I've been pretty adament about refusing to purchase games that support anti-consumer business models, and as tough as it will be due to being such a big Mass Effect fan, if you guys go down the same path you'll be another name on my black list.

Wow, I'm really glad to know those details about PS3 version (which I have pre-ordered). An animated comic is a good idea to show ME1 story (2 versions are required though, for male and female Shepards) and let the player make every choice that matters, even with reporter and fan. It's like text adventure. Excellent idea.

As for exclusive content - as I've (and others predicted) it's Legion mission from ME2 intro where he searches for Shep's body, the mission that was cut from original ME2 release. It's also a good choice of exclusive content. Sony requires every late release to have such content and keep it exclusive, so it was a tough choice for Bioware: they have to add PS3 exclusive content that won't be available for PC or 360, and that means that such content can't alter the story in any way at all. So, they could make something like Darkspawn Chronicles. And Legion mission seems like a much better choice: it perfectly fits the game, it won't feel like something thrown in just to fulfill exclusive content requirement and at the same time it doesn't alter anything in story. At all.

Best version for PS3... You know - I think it's worth the price. Sure, I play on PC and use steam a lot, but when a PS3 version is available I go for it - by now it became the definite gaming platform.

I hope this "exclusive" content for PS3 is some kind of joke.

And why can't people get it through their heads that Bioware isn't the only one making a decision - EA and Sony both have a word to say in the matter, and in the past, Sony has forced developers to add extra exclusive content to later PS3 ports of previously Xbox360 exclusives (not counting PC releases).

Thus the likelihood of there being exclusive PS3 content is quite high, even aside the introductory experience which we all assume will be PS3-exclusive.

If there is PS3 exclusive content besides the introductory experience, it's not Bioware that you need to take it out on.  Sony has a console to sell and they need to make sure that their games are appealing to PS3 owners and to non-PS3 owners.  Having exclusive PS3 content added to late ports is a good way to do so.

It doesn't matter if you will feel betrayed by Bioware.  The issue is a business issue, and Sony has it in it's best interest to make sure that EA and Bioware offer exclusive content on the PS3 release.  Stop thinking that only Bioware has a say in the matter!

All content should be available on all platforms. If the the dlc is going to be combined with their purchase. Then xbox and pc should have the same. Maybe an ultimate edition or bioware could release all dlc for free or both maybe. If there is a new mission it should be available to all platforms at the same time.

Whether it is a BioWare, EA, or Sony decision, or a combined decision, has nothing to do with it. Yes, I am perfectly aware of Sony's 'bu bu bu give us exclusive content' rubbish, that they have been doing for a long time now.

None of this matters. What matters is I dont support it, regardless of who is the instigator. It is an anti-consumer business model with a focus on exploting the market for the highest profits. Its business. I'm aware it happens. I'm aware I cant stop it. But I have, this generation, made the personal decision not to support it.

If Sony, EA, BioWare, whoever want to do this, fine. Probably a good business move that will encourage sales. Just dont expect me to condone it. Im a gamer, and games cost money. I'm quite happy to vote with my wallet, which I will be doing if this story content is exclusive.

Well, Joker missions for Batman AA are PS3 exclusive, and although they're hilarious they doesn't add anything to main story. At all. Same here. Legion searched for Shep's body, but playing through this part won't change the story in any way.

It's Bioware's game so the buck stops with them.  As for "business issue" I dunno the software business has some strange ideas these days.  If I am correct Bioware and EA is a third party developer/publisher they have no interest in pushing PS3 consoles off the shelves.  It is in EA and Bioware's interest to make their products available to the widest possible customer base.

Now if they are saying this exclusive content is free to PS3 users but PC/360 users have to pay then fair enough.  However to exclude 2 million paying customers from extra content just to "appease" a console manufacturer is not "good business" it is sheer idiocy and yes it is down to Bioware, they created this whole mess by signing up with MS in the first place.

Tomb Raider Underworld have 360 exclusive DLC.
Bioshock has PS3 exclusive DLC.
Dead Rising 2 has 360 exclusive DLC.
Batman AA has PS3 exclusive DLC.
This is no idiocy. It's business. With Microsoft switching attention to casual gaming and kinect expect more PS3 exclusive stuff in hardcore games. One of reasons I like Sony is that they don't abandon hardcore gamers... Like Nintendo...

What I don't understand is why you would think Sony would care if everone got the same experience or not?  I could understand your argument if Bioware were the only one making decisions.  But Sony, one of Microsofts competitors, has to do all it can to make it's games more appealing, including (not obviously not limited to) having exclusive content!

It doesn't matter is you support it or not!  A competitor needs to offer more than it's competition, and that's just what Sony is trying to do!  Is it that hard to understand that it's completely logical that there has to be exclusive content on the PS3?  I mean, what kind of company would allow a game to come out onto their platform a year later and offer no exclusive content compared to the already-released-on-another-platform version?  Or what kind of company would be okay with Bioware and EA releasing the extra content that they require for the PS3 version as DLC on the Xbox360 and/or PC?  Do you think Sony cares about whether you, an Xbox360 user, gets the same content as a PS3 player?

I think you need to look at it from Sony's perspective, and not from a Mass Effect fan perspective.  I'm sure you would come to the conclusion that the only logical path is extra exclusive content on your machine.  There is no way in hell that Sony would just sit by while all the extra content is offered to Xbox360 and/or PC users, and to want Sony, Microsoft's competitor, to want everyone to have the same experience, have access to the EXACT same content is just being naive.

And this has what to do with what I posted ?  I don't support exclusive content no matter what platform it is on or what company makes it. I wouldn't care if it was just another rifle dlc that the only difference was it was red instead of blue. I understand why sony and microsoft want it. I think it is a bad thing. A game should be the same and have the same content available for whatever platform they are released on. Its fair for all gamers that way no matter if you play on 360, PS3, or PC.

Yes I am well aware of the childish DLC playground fighting that both Sony and MS do I don't need you to ream off a list of games.  I have no doubt that it is good business sense for Sony and MS after all they are in the business of trying to sell you a console now.

However Bioware are not in the business of selling either MS or Sony consoles they are in the business of selling games to their customers and it is counterproductive to cut out 2 million of your customers just to grab a few more sales on the PS3.  Now if this content is PS3 exclusive then so be it, I know I won't bother with Mass Effect 3.  After all what is the point in me continuing to play Mass Effect on the PC if I am missing some of the story.

What is your point? Im not disagreeing with anything you've written. Like, at all. Nothing. I understand why its done, I understand that they dont care about my personal position, and I dont expect them to.

What I'm saying is that I, as a consumer, as a gamer, as a person, do not condone this kind of activity. I dont expect them to listen to me, and I expect this stuff to happen. But just because it happens doesnt mean I need to buy into it.

As I said, I have a strong stance against platform exclusive game content. For this generation I have been, as far as I'm aware, extremely stringent about my purchases. I've chosen not to support the business model, regardles of how 'logical' it is in the current market. Im a gamer. I dont give a damn about the business. I care about people having fun, and getting what they deserve.

So yeah. I dont disagree with anything you said, I simply dont care about any of it. I dont support businesses that conduct themselves in this way. Its a personal decision, and one I'm quite happy to keep if this is the path that will be taken with Mass Effect 2 PS3.

No need to get your nickers in a knot. Im not asking anybody else to do the same, nor grabbing my torches and pitchforks and marching down to BioWare's office. It is what it is. I do what I do. The end.

You sir, are an idiot.

Your comment doesn't build off or refute what I've said in any way. Did you take two minutes between porno flicks to write that?

CharmingCharlie, I made a mistake, thanks for correcting me. I think the rest of my point stands though. PS3 owners with Xbox 360's can get the game super cheap off eBay, and the game is easily available illegally. I don't understand your point about withholding content, since it's not about withholding content. 360/PC got tons of content while PS3 owners had Mass Effect 2 "withheld" from them for a whole year. What do you have to say about that?

Detailed Subset, you said that including extra content is like tearing a page out of a book. I say that you bought the book, enjoyed it, and now there's a revamped edition coming out that you can only buy at ______with a new foreword and a new chapter, and only at full price. Your analogy doesn't hold up.

EDIT: Since EatChildren says it's a personal decision not based on facts, there's no point arguing over that.

Yes, I have to agree... Bought Blood on GoG.com out of nostalgia and painfully realized that modern shooters suck.

But I guess you have to live with DLC. Games nowadays are way too expensive to make. PS3 version of ME2 probably cost quite a lot of money to create.

Pretty much. The facts are irrelivant. I know the business and I know the reasoning, but I'm not required to like it just because its the most effective means of making money. And because I dont like it, I make the appropriate personal decision.

To 'read' this new chapter I would need a PS3.
they're barring PC and Xbox users from a part of the ME story and no matter how nonessential that part of the story may be its not justifiable to give it to people who have done little to nothing to make the ME franchise as successful as it is.
