Why do that, when they can just have the PS3 users play with the default ME1 choices?  They did this in ME2 for the default Shepard.

Well, the difference with the 360 version of ME2 is that ME1 is available for the console, and players are able to go back and play the original game the alter the choices if they wish. PS3 players do not have that luxury.

So, erm,I assume this means that characters who may be dead in ME1 will have to have very minor roles in the third game, as to not complicate it for sony players...

If that is right, fans of those characters may not be happy.

Uh YEAH!!!

This has been a huge concern for many of us for a long time now.

We are very proud to announce today that Mass Effect 2 will be coming to the Playstation 3 in January 2011. The PS3 edition will include the full Mass Effect 2 game and hours of bonus content.

You can see the new Mass Effect 2 PS3 announcement trailer here: http://masseffect.bioware.com/

Stay tuned for more upcoming details on teh PS3 edition of Mass Effect 2. :)

I support this move. More money for bioware means more and better games for us. We need to stop fighting each other consols and stand together behind good developers.

Thats pretty much my main concern but also that some of the choices we made in ME wont carry over or wont exist at all.

Maybe if we keep mentioning this Bioware we realise how much of a huge issue this is for us and actually respond...   Fingers crossed!

Why exactly do you loathe the PS3?

Deavent wrote...

Since I actually loathe the console that is PS3 I'm rather unhappy with this decision. But sure, allowing a wider audience to enjoy the wonder we all know as Mass Effect couldn't possibly be harmful. We cannot be that selfish, now can we?

Although I've got to admit; if that "bonus content" is stuff that I've had to pay extra for (as a loyal consumer and fanatic), I sincerely need to shed a tear out of jealousy, and then feel self pity for an hour about the unfair treatment. That'd feel sort of like busting your ass off for years pleasing your boss, and then have the newly hired guy promoted for nothing.

*sigh*
Nobody loathe the PS3 .
It's just a concern about the implications for Me3, if the choices made in the first game will have a meaningful impact .
Me2 alone made worry a lot of people about the importance of their choice . People who complain don't want a big retcon for the sake of appealing to the largest audience .

It isn't a matter of platform . If anything, I would welcome a more oriented Pc development.

No, but I don't think that matters, honestly.  ME2 is a standalone game anyway...this port to PS3 will prove that.  Even if they create a module where these users can make choices, it would still be kind of pointless as the PS3 players lack the context in which to make these decisions...they'd be blind guesses for the most part.  Now, if you are thinking the module would me more complex than that, I still doubt they would take the time to develop something like this for only PS3 users.

Lol, save your bitterness, Ratzerman. I've always been concerned for the treatment of ME1 and those characters' significance, and have always empathized with those who loved Liara, Wrex, Ash/Kaidan. I may have been fortunate in ME2, but I'm under no illusions...I know ME3 could very well pull the same stunts. That said, I still hope for a resolution in ME3 that satisfies most, if not all, parties.

Wow, the Fanboyism & Entitlement in this topic is disgusting...

Relax, you big babies... This bonus content will probably just be all the DLC Armor, Making of video, and DLC Side Missions.

:o. Nothing is wrong with those who like Tali an overly creepy amount Image IPB.

Well, except for the fact that Liara was much better in Mass Effect 1 Image IPB.

*puts on flame shield, barrier, fortification, Geth Shield armor, normal armor, Reaper armor, anti-flammable socks and rubber, armor plated shoes*

On-topic though, it's just a shame that Mass Effect 1 isn't going over onto PS3 and, hopefully, Mass Effect 1 characters and mission choices aren't completely ignored even though it was suggested that if they weren't acknowledged in Mass Effect 2 they'd be in Mass Effect 3.

I can see the Li's returning, as one of them lives depending on gender, so sony shep's will be stuck with the gender pick, eg Male Shep has Ash. 360 guys will have whoever they picked. Looks like goodbye Wrex though, though I'll assume on 360 he'll cameo as the Krogan general against the Reapers anyway.

How feasible is it for a condensed, abridged, brief version of ME1 to be tacked on to the beginning of ME2 in the form of an extended prologue, anyway?

Why do that, when they can just have the PS3 users play with the default ME1 choices?  They did this in ME2 for the default Shepard.

Yep. No reason to put the extra effort in at all really.

Yeah, that's not happening.

Uh...as that's the reason as to why I am arguing that the PS3 port of ME2 may feature an abridged version of the original game in order to allow players to select choices from ME1?

Thanks Bioware! Much respect. But i do wonder if ME1 will ever make it to PS3...even if it gets the "Sigma" treatment or would MS not allow it either way?

I think far too many people here are making premature assumptions that decisions made in the first ME 1 won't be important in ME 3 just because the PS3 isn't getting the first game.

First of all, we have no idea what the PS3 version of ME 2 will be like. Bioware could simply create a more robust introduction in ME 2 on the PS3 version that gives first-time players a bigger understanding of the events that took place in the first game. For example, Shepard could have a flashback on the major events in the first game that not only brings PS3 players up to speed with what happened, but allows them to make the major decisions during these key flashbacks (e.g., Feros, Noveria, Virmire, who you romanced, etc.) without having to play the first game. That way, those major decisions still largely affect the third game, and the PS3 players get to experience it largely in the same way.

In the end, just because the PS3 isn't getting the first ME doesn't mean that all of a sudden those decisions made in the first game won't matter in the third game, because we simply do not know how differently the PS3 version will be like. It's far too early to be jumping to conclusions right now.

I dunno about you, but I would feel pretty much fecked if some people get something for free that I had to pay for... or can you show me a Side Mission DLC that was free (apart from Zaeed) ?

For all of you people who are so enraged that Mass Effect is going to PS3, were you this enraged when the announcement came out that Mass Effect 1 was coming out for PC?

This fanboy bull **** has got to end. This is one reason why it is so hard for people to look at video games as anything but children wasting their time. So Mass Effect 2 and 3 are going to PS3. So what. BioWare has a proven track record that they know what they are doing.

Furthermore, we do not know any details at the moment. All we know is that the game will be on the PS3. There has been no mention of PS3 exclusive content, onl bonus content, which you have to think is the DLC up to this point.

As for being pissed that people may get the DLC for free that you paid for.....uuhhh...that is exactly what happens when a Game Of The Year edition comes out. Are you that enraged when that happens? Or are you so entrenched into this fanboy bull **** that you forget that we are all here to have fun with a video game.

Are you one of those "PS3 for teh rulz!!11!" people? Honestly.

We on the 360 and PC had to pay for the DLC armor and side missions. So excuse us for feeling annoyed when the PS3 owners get it for free.

What I hate about this news is that you don;t get to choose on what happen to the events on Mass Effect. You literally can't choose to save Wrex or not. Or whether to save Kaiden or Ashley.

Wow, was hoping for a release date on LotSB, and instead get this. Way to supplant my enthusiasm with something I have zero interest in...
