I think far too many people here are making premature assumptions that decisions made in the first ME 1 won't be important in ME 3 just because the PS3 isn't getting the first game.
First of all, we have no idea what the PS3 version of ME 2 will be like. Bioware could simply create a more robust introduction in ME 2 on the PS3 version that gives first-time players a bigger understanding of the events that took place in the first game. For example, Shepard could have a flashback on the major events in the first game that not only brings PS3 players up to speed with what happened, but allows them to make the major decisions during these key flashbacks (e.g., Feros, Noveria, Virmire, who you romanced, etc.) without having to play the first game. That way, those major decisions still largely affect the third game, and the PS3 players get to experience it largely in the same way.
In the end, just because the PS3 isn't getting the first ME doesn't mean that all of a sudden those decisions made in the first game won't matter in the third game, because we simply do not know how differently the PS3 version will be like. It's far too early to be jumping to conclusions right now.
