This indicates one of two things;

A. Bioware is moving away from the lure of importing save games. This option doesn't bode well for all of us who want our decisions to matter/squadmates to return. This is a strong move into the "standalone game" direction

B. They're going to find a way to get the ME1 rights in order to put it out for PS3.

I'm thinking....choice A.

Me too. apparantly a lot of people don't see that.

I am more thinking they give ps3 users a option on what choices they made in me1 on pc/xbox

This is really bad, because appearantly ME1 will not be released on PS3. I wonder what will happen to the ME1 characters now. I can only imagine that they won't play a very big role now, because the experience has to be the same for everyone, every platform. PS3 users will never even meet Wrex for example because the "canon" has him dead. hmpf. Of course the ME1 LIs won't be availlable for PS3 users aswell.

:-/

That's the main reason why I say that Bioware bringing the ME franchise to the PS3 is useless without the first installment. In my opinion. Half the appeal of the ME series is having your decisions effect the series. You brought up some good points.

I'm sure ME2 will gather some sales on the PS3 for sure. But I think it would do even better if the first was being released. I can only assume that Microsoft stonewalled them since they did publish the first title for Bioware.

Told you the game was gimped to run on PS3.

edit: Let me guess, all the DLC released to date is going to be free on disc like ME1 DLC on PC.
edit2: well, its confirmed by BioWare "featuring the full Mass Effect 2 experience, and hours of bonus content"

Well, I guess we should be happy for the PS3 owners who don't own the game on PC. But I'll be expecting a lots people in 2011 that wi'll scream things on this forum like 'who the f*ck is that? I don't get it! etc. etc.'

How exactly are they selling thier soul?  They are bringing the Mass Effect universe to the PS3 so that even more people can enjoy it, and at the same time, BioWare can make more money.  Money that will help fund the next Mass Effect and/or other projects.

I say good job BioWare.  I just wish there was some kind of way for you guys to bring Mass Effect 1 to the PS3.

Well congrats on selling the last part of your soul BioWare.

Can't wait for the forums to become infested with "wil it haz troph1es??!!!" threads! Ugh. Damn you EA and damn Microsoft for letting one of their flagships IP's go multiplaform.

BTW, I bet the game will utterly bomb just like BioShock 1 PS3 did.

MS doesn't own it and there's money to be made multi-platform. Don't be a console snob. It's juvenile.

I bet they will find some way to adjust the start of the game so that the player can adjust the events of ME1.... just to put salt on the wound of those of us who played ME1.

As an owner of both systems, I am happy that my friends on the PS3 will get to play the game. However, I am disappointed that Bioware would allow ME2 to be released without ME1.

They're going to give PS3 gamers all of that frakin content in one price and we Xbox 360 gamers have everything doled out to us in tiny bits and at extra cost?

I'M REALLY STARTING TO FEEL CHUMPED HERE

or C.  At the start of ME2 you will have more options that include the major decisions from ME1.

But I really hope they find a way to include all the decisions.  Depending on which side missions you did in ME1, you get some interesting emails from people from ME1.  It was kind of cool to get that carry over info.  I wish it would have more influence on the story, but it was still cool just the same.

Alright, so one of the big hooks for Bioware's ME franchise has been importing and continuing "your" shepard.

They just announced Mass Effect for PS3, but ME1 is *not*, and to my knowledge, not going to be available for PS3.

So essentially PS3 players have to play the default story in ME2.

This indicates one of two things;

A. Bioware is moving away from the lure of importing save games. This option doesn't bode well for all of us who want our decisions to matter/squadmates to return. This is a strong move into the "standalone game" direction

B. They're going to find a way to get the ME1 rights in order to put it out for PS3.

Or it would be like if you started Mass Effect 2 without importing a saved game =0

I didn't say they owned it, but they should of payed to keep it on their platform. MS seem to think their fanbase are happy with just Halo and Gears while they put all their resources into promoting the casual crap like Kinect.

Not sure what to make of this. The fact that ME1 was published by Microsoft pretty much eliminates any hope of that going to PS3. If so then PS3 users are going to miss out on some of the story unless they go watch walkthroughs on YouTube. I'm guessing Sony forked over some serious coin for Bioware to do this.

They're console snobs. Games are, "MINE, MINE, MINE"

Pay no attention to the crybabies.  They just can't grasp that the market is too segmented these days to make third-party exclusives worthwhile.

Course they could add ME1 as a combo freebie like the Limited Dead Space ed for PS3. I wanted extraction on the 360 too dosh darnit.

Now that just pissed me off when I first found out about it. Why can't 360/PC fans get hi-res Extraction as wellPosted Image? I can't help but feel that BioWare will also give PS3 players ME Galaxy.

I'm actually kinda shocked by all the negative feedback for ME going to the PS3. If anything, this is a good thing; new players will finally be able to see what all the hubub is about, and we might actually see some of the original design concepts work their way back into the PS3 release of the game (i.e. open-ended recruitment was cut because of the 360 version being two discs). Also, with a multiplatform release, we could see some cool enhancements across all versions (like, oh I dunno, mod tools?).

Saying things like Bioware sold out or that PS3 users are morons is just plain childish. There will always be unsavory people no matter what system is played. I've been on all fronts, and it happens everywhere. Give someone a mic, a keyboard, and anonymity, and that person has the potential to ruin your day. Don't think for one second that just because ME has been isolated to the Xbox and PC that it was somehow immune.

Also, remember that gaming is a business. We get charged small amounts for DLC that is anywhere from 20MB to 1.5GB ranging in price from $2 to $15. Adding the ME series to PS3 is a good business move for both Bioware and EA, and means a larger budget for ME3 and future entries into the Mass Effect universe.

And before anyone jumps down my throat, I'm a diehard PC gamer, occasional PS3 gamer, and a former Xbox gamer (5 failed systems tends to make someone slightly jaded). I'm just asking for people to calm down and think about what this means for the big picture, before making rash statements that make everyone look bad.

Mass Effect 1 PC wasnt published by Microsoft, EA rather. So what makes them not port it over to PS3

I hope Bioware doesn't edit the PS3 version,
like the Mordin vs Grunt  encounter that was cut from the Xbox 360

Extraction is a rail shooter from the Wii. The PS3 mainly got it because of the Move. EA might move it as a download for Xbox 360 if the Kinect can be adapted to it.
