Well, that's interesting. Bioware saying a year ago it would never go to PS3 and now... ya... about that....

Also, who decided to buy the liscense to the second game and not the first with it? Probably someone at EA (worse than M$ in my opinion).

To me, the console wars portion of this isn't that bad... honestly, it can go to Wii for all I care... so long as it doesn't effect my play on my console of choice (PC and 360). This announcement wont really matter to people who joined the trilogy at its second installment, but to those of us who bought the origional and played it for hours and fell in love with the universe at that installment, and possibly those like myself that debated back and forth their first time through on wether or not I should do this or that (to kill the rachni queen or not for instance), this is like a rusty nail through the heart.

You can't sell the third and final part of the trilogy without making the play at least similar on story. Gameplay can be different *cite DA:O PC and 360 differences* but story is something that most people would like to have be the same so that one console isn't inferior due to not having all of the pieces of the story in place. By releasing only the second installment the choices from the first are greatly diminished.

Granted, the true effect on the story wasn't ever changing to gameplay. But the sense of 'I'm glad I saved Wrex' because the douchebag who is there if you didn't isn't nearly as interesting.

Now, I'm not saying that I won't buy ME3 (though I'm very tempted to just say screw it and rent/buy it used so that EA doesn't get a penny from me) but I am concerned for any future games that Bioware is working on. If it is only about the money (and honestly... that is what this is about at this point, if you wanted the story be available to all *typical bs* then you would have done it with the first game) then future games that are sold with the bioware label as 'unique' (whether it is console or a specific feature) wont matter for sequels.

I guess I'd be fine with a questionaire that decides the choices of the first game in a non-descriptive way, but the possibility of gimping the final installment of the trilogy just to sell more copies to be a nightmare scenario of how far BW has fallen under EA control. Not to mention you run the possiblity of getting sued by doing so, not sure if you could... but I would if I was MS.

Its just a dangerious trend in my opinion. It makes me afraid to trust the bioware label as I have gotten so used to.

I'll only agree with this if Mass 3 suffers as a result of this port. Since the PS3 players wont get Mas 1 choices, Bioware might just water it down even more so than the second game.

Then again the impact of ME1 choices in ME2 was probably already watered down because the PS3 version.
Lets face it, the PS3 version has been in development for years.

Not liking this announcement. Mass Effect was supposed to be 360 exclusive. Im guessing EA pushed this on Bioware to do. Not really bioware's fault, but EA's to make more $$$. Its not about fans anymore, just profit. So, since exclusives dont matter anymore, they should make MGS4 for 360.

I just shake my head at whoever does Bioware's PR, the source of this community cluster****. They announce ME2 for the PS3 and then be super vague about the first details: "will feature hours of bonus content making it the perfect entry point to the franchise." What does that even mean?! This leads to the forums and gaming sites wondering what that means, the former going ape****.

They should have said they are working on/have a solution so PS3 players would get the whole story without ME1, but at the same time, will not shortchange Xbox 360/PC players.

I really do hope that some key and talented people from Bioware leave "EA's Bioware" and form a new studio. EA destroy everything they touch by watering down past franchises to appeal to the broader market.

That'd be the end of Bioware for me. Obviously this is EA's influence over Bioware because if you can't port the whole trilogy, then don't do it at all.

Mr. Hudson said in an interview last year that your choices will make more noticeable differences in ME3 because they can allow the story to diverge into many paths at the end of the series, not having to worry about continuity at that point anymore.

But then agan, Mr. Watamaniuk told us in about the same period that ME2 was only coming to PC and Xbox 360, explicitly stating that it wasn't coming to PS3, so take that as you will.

ME1 will not be coming to PS3 according to Microsoft.
"With both Mass Effect titles launching first on Xbox 360 combined with the wealth of available paid downloadable content on Xbox Live today, Xbox 360 remains the best place to experience the Mass Effect franchise," a representative. Mass Effect 1, first published by Microsoft in 2007, will remain exclusive to Xbox 360. And the original Mass Effect is absolutely an Xbox 360 exclusive, making Xbox 360 the only place to get the full Mass Effect experience," the company added.

That is a statement they released. That however does not mean that a shortened version or a lot of questions at the beginning of ME2 will not occur.

notice the lack of Microsoft mentioning the PC version of ME1. Not saying they dont retain the rights to the software of ME1 but they cant stop BW and EA from re-creating Mass Effect or any elements of Mass Effect, because BW and EA own the rights to the story, art, etc.

*rolls eyes at certain replies in this thread*

Anyway, Christina Norman has been busy tweeting, as usual:

To anyone who says that me2 ps3 is bad for the 360/PC version, it isn't! We are all gamers here.

it is more like we get to hire extra people because of the ps3 port, it is a win win situation.

My personal goal
is to make the 360, PS3 and PC experiences for ME2 as equal at possible,
and to bring ME2 to as many gamers as possible.

:)

This will never ****ing happen... First off the pc and ps3 have far better capabilities and the xbox is slowing them down..

The pc has far has bigger potential then both ,but it has pirates which screw its gaming community up.. however on the other hand it has moding..its also the cheapest version which mostly cost 39.99 euro ( althought you can find it even cheaper on the ebay or anywhere else)

The ps3 however, has big potential aswell ,but not everyone has the money for it or simply for the game since it costs 59.99 49.99 euro every time unless it has speasial deals.. which are rare..that is when its relesed

The xbox360 has sometimes the best deals i notice but the system is starting to get really old.. and my xbox360 already has one ring of death after 5 years its still playable.. ,but it requires preprations and it really pisses me off since it takes time

I have all the 3 systems and I most admit if they made a worse copy of xbox version just  so people who own it can play it and make the PS3 and PC version much better then Im with this idea.. of we all are equal gamers... but for now hell naw

I have no problem with PS3 owners getting to try this awesome game, just like I didn't mind when they had Oblivion ported over a few years ago. Awesome games deserve to be played by as many people as possible and I think that the whole era of exclusives needs to come to an end soon.

Still, what I felt stung about regarding the Oblivion port is that they got a few of the game's DLC for free, built into a brand new copy of the game. I had to pay for Knights of the Nine, they got it free of charge. If PS3 owners get DLC such as Kasumi and Overlord for free like this, I will be slightly annoyed for sure.

That said, Mass Effect 2 is awesome, BioWare is awesome, and anything that can help them spread the love and improve their studio with increased sales is usually good with me. Just please don't make Mass Effect 3 suffer because of the EA Effect that seems to be going on.

Exactly. That's what I'm saying. I'm not flipping out over the DLC business, but it's a really f*cked up move if they get what I nearly invested sixty bucks in. If they get it free, I won't particularly mind but like you I'll be annoyed.

I dont think EA pushed them. BioWare did games for Microsoft back when Microsoft was publishing their games.
Its never really about fans, its about customers. Some customers may be unhappy now, but more new customers are going to buy the PS3 version. Hell, some of the suckers here are going to buy the game again.

So its really going to happen. ME on PS3. I might throw away my 360 now. ME is the only exclusive title that has kept me on either side of the console war. I am a big fan of ME going to PS3 ,as long as it doesn't hurt the game. Why care?

Who cares about ME1 at the point anymore anyway? The romances barely carried over, Wrex was in it for a short period of time, and a bunch of other small things that don't matter to much.

I'm really starting to think ME2 and ME3 are going to have way more choices that carry on then ME1 to ME2 which to tell you the truth I am fine with, more then fine. They are just giving Mass Effect to a wider audience, you know how many Japanese players don't have an Xbox just because its American? Alot from what I hear, now more people will be open to getting it for the sole reason it is actually on the PS3 now.

I own the Xbox releases, and Im going to buy the PS3 release when it comes out all I care about is carry over from ME2 to ME3, people need to stop ****ing about this and move on.

Its not going to hurt ME3 in anyway, more people are going to play mass effect which will bring in more money for bioware (and EA I know.....I know, ive had issues with EA for awhile.) Just be thankful Bioware isnt porting it to the Wii lol.

just relax people.....relax.

PS: The people who got over heated were awesome, they made for a great laugh. "I hate bioware screw this company and screw this game cause its on PS3 NOW!!!!!" who cares what its on, just be thankful its not going to the wii.lol

Send it to me, I could use NTSC unit to play games like Deathsmiles.

It will hurt the game, if PS3 owners can;t play ME, that means ME3 is going to be the biggest disapointment ever!<_<

Okay, I have afew questions for Bioware regarding this game...

1.) Is there going to be a Collector's Edition?

2.) I already own the 360 Collector's Edition, and I've redeemed the Collector Armor code here. Will I need to buy the PS3 Collector's Edition if I want the Armor, or will the Armor already be available in the PS3 Version since I've already redeemed the code for the 360 Version?

3.) Are any additional improvements going to be made to the PS3 Version based on user complaints for the PC/360 Version, such as an Inventory System, Planet Exploration, or Helmet Toggle?

Thanks in advance.

It's my only real concern at the moment. We can all jump on BioWare and convince ourselves that ME3 is going to suffer because of the port, but I'll believe it when I see it. BioWare is a top game developer because they really seem to care about their games and their fans. No way they screw up ME3 because of something as trivial as cross-console versions.

Just don't give them free DLC that I had to pay for and we're good.

And so, after inserting the knife in the kidney, EA decided to twist it.

And you know what? I don't care if Woozer says I'm wrong.

EA censored ME2

That's not unexpected, plus this thread is only a few hours old. In any case BW might not even know for sure at this time. I'm sure there will be more info eventually. We'll just have to wait and see. :)
