Awesome news and looking forward to finally playing it on my PS3, but what about Mass Effect 1. I know from these forums players were able to import their save files from the 1st game into the 2nd. When/Is the 1st game going to be able for the PS3?

This has already been covered by Microsoft a couple of hours ago in a post that someone mentioned here. Microsoft published the Xbox 360 version of the game and retains a license on it as a result, to which they said that it will always remain an exclusive for Microsoft so that the only way you can experience the whole game is on Microsoft.

No way they screw up ME3 because of something as trivial as cross-console versions.

Of course they would if it means they would me more money.  EA Bioware would/will twist in the ME story and game play in any direction to attract more players.   With this PS3 announcement I'd expect ME3 to be simaliar "Grand Theft Auto"  than Mass Effect 1.

Come on... I belive no matter what. Any reason you can find ,and all of the above. ME3 will still be a great game. Bioware is the only company who has never let me down with one of their video games. I have enjoyed ever Bioware title I have played. The only company I can say this about.

I would like to know when this is going to happen.

I really hope that somehow the choices for ME1 will be included in this so they will actually have something to do with what happens in ME3 for all of us who's been along for the whole ride.

I'm really happy PS3 gamers are getting Mass Effect 2. It helps bring the universe to a wider audience. Exclusitivity has always been bad for gamers. I just hope the hours of bonus content is not exclusive missions or something and instead is some sort of link to Mass Effect 1.

No, the free DLC is the "full Mass Effect 2 experience". The "hours of bonus content" is something new.

Have it for every system but will not buy if they do not have some way of importing ME1 decisions. Maybe from PC?

If PC then I will have to do another play for my old ones are lost but I am cool with it.

Oh and this better come with a patch for all ME games for transfer data from ME1 to ME2.

A few things:

1) Yay for PS3 owners! They get to play one of the best games this year! This just means more money for Bioware to develop more content and games for all of us, and this is a good good thing.

2) Bioware, are you going to release something to allow players to generate a mass effect 1 save? And could you also release it for the 360?

3) What will the bonus content be? Will it be exclusive? If so, could you not make it exclusive? I'm all for PS3 players getting some if not all of the content that has already been released bundled with the game, but everyone should be able to enjoy the full mass effect experience.

4) As for everyone ****ing about betrayal: how does this take away from your experience at all?

I really like every point and agree, except the 4th. I can understand why many are angry, i am myself, and i do feel slightly betrayed. I bought the xbox 360 for Mass Effect 2 (I had played ME 1 since the release on PC before), cause i couldn't spare the money for a new gaming pc (one ha i died, horribly).  I would have bought PS3 , i had much more pros than cons on PS3 than xbox 360, only that xbox 360 had ME 2.

I just don't trust anything when EA is involved (i got face slapped a few times during my BF2 years).

Feelings can't be removed, i can control them and almost remove them, but not more.

Okay, I have afew questions for Bioware regarding this game...

1.) Is there going to be a Collector's Edition?

2.) I already own the 360 Collector's Edition, and I've redeemed the Collector Armor code here. Will I need to buy the PS3 Collector's Edition if I want the Armor, or will the Armor already be available in the PS3 Version since I've already redeemed the code for the 360 Version?

3.) Are any additional improvements going to be made to the PS3 Version based on user complaints for the PC/360 Version, such as an Inventory System, Planet Exploration, or Helmet Toggle?

Thanks in advance.

If only the pS3 version gets a helmet toggle fix I will rage.

If the PS3 Version gets it, then the PC/360 Version could also get it through a Patch.

I doubt it, sorry while you might have faith in Bioware, my faith is gone.

And that's why I said everyone here is acting like children.

Bioware announces a port, and suddenly it's treason against the fanbase. Seriously, how old are you people that you're making comments like this?! You've lost all faith in Bioware over a PORT?!!
Well, then I can only surmise that your "faith" wasn't so great to begin with?

Also, I'm sorry, but didn't anyone else see this coming?
The signs were everywhere, but people just kept foolishly denying it.

C'mon people, it's a video game!!! Don't you people have lives outside of your hobby?
You act like Bioware just announced that ME2 is coming to PS3, and that all PC/360 Versions are to be gathered up and destroyed.

Jesus, I wish people would react like this when serious **** happened in the real world.
Seriously, why can't you put this kind of effort into pulling Troops out of the Middle East, demanding that alternative energy sources be explored, etc?!

Bioware only cares about money, not there fans.

^ This :(

1) you only found out now?

2) is it not the case with most companies?

Bioware is one of the most respected game companies out there and I had faith in them, however since this announcement Im not so sure. Its nothing to do with the PS3 version (Im glad the PS3 is going to get an amazing game) Its to do with the fact that PS3 wont be getting ME1, so in order for PS3 users to get the same experience as 360 and PC players that means that they would have to discount the decisions made in ME1 (romance options, council decisions etc) which is total bull

Thanks Bioware, by releasing ME2 but not ME1 for PS3, you really show how much you appreciate your long-time customers who buy every game you make for their quality and were great like ME1, instead of cashing in on the hype one of your game made and selling out and almost guaranteeing that ME3 will be a sell-out game were you flip off your real fans

Wait no ME1? So half the plot impact and character development is essentially dead for PS3 players? That's totally crazy Bioware, what are you doing? I was hoping a port would spread the love for the series, but this realy looks like someone is going for a quick buck without any real fore-thought.

Sure, it's a cash-grab. But it also gives the dev team a built-in excuse when they decide to minimize the characters and decisions in ME1 even further than they already have. They can simply say "We can't bring ______ back because that would be unfair to all of our fans on PS3."

Nevermind what is fair to those of us who have been with the franchise since the beginning.

That is exactly what is going to happen. Down to the word, in my opinion.

That would ****** me off too.  Ultimately I bought a 360 instead of a PS3 so I could play Mass Effect, I'm fine with it going cross platform so that more people will get to play it; but I shouldn't be getting the shaft when I bought a console with the express purpose of playing a game.

If they want to throw some existing DLC in to entice people to buy it, then that's fine (if it was just an issue of money, I would have waited till now to buy it and saved myself some cash rather than preordering the Collector's Edition); but if PS3 owners start getting **** that I can't get my hands on that would be some grade A bull****.

No offense to the PS3 owners, who I am genuinely happy for, this is nothing but bad news for Xbox and PC owners. Best case scenario: this just slows down ME3 development by a few months. That's the "best scenario." Worst scenario: ME1 characters and decisions won't mean a damn thing for ME3. Maybe we'll get an email from Wrex: "Thanks for sparing me! Good luck with the last battle!" Ugh. Depressing news.

Exactly. That's what I'm saying. I'm not flipping out over the DLC business, but it's a really f*cked up move if they get what I nearly invested sixty bucks in. If they get it free, I won't particularly mind but like you I'll be annoyed.

It's my only real concern at the moment. We can all jump on BioWare and convince ourselves that ME3 is going to suffer because of the port, but I'll believe it when I see it. BioWare is a top game developer because they really seem to care about their games and their fans. No way they screw up ME3 because of something as trivial as cross-console versions.

Just don't give them free DLC that I had to pay for and we're good.

They most likly are going to give the PS3 version some if not all the DLC for free, which is fine for me cause I paied for the DLC when it came out. If I was given the choice of ME for PS3 or Xbox I would of chosen the PS3 version, but that wasnt an option so I bought the 360 version.....to me the free DLC would be more of a "Hey sorry PS3 users we wanted to bring you ME right away but were unable to for a few years.....now enjoy the free dlc."

I think its fair as well, Xbox got ME right away, PS3 had to wait and now it gets some free DLC to say thanks for waiting. I had to pay for it as well so im not biased at all.....I still don't see the big deal with any of this.

BTW thanks for voiceing your opinion in a civil manner as well, its nice to have debates and forum topics with people that act like they are older then 16.

The 'bonus content', I'm guessing, will be DLC packed in and included with the retail price.

That really shouldn't be an issue for anybody. The game will be launching a whole year later than the other platforms. If you're really annoyed by people getting DLC packaged in when you paid the price, then you should also be annoyed at the price drops for the game on current platforms. As it is, you can get ME2 pretty cheap already, and probably even cheaper once ME2 PS3 hits. If you bought the game at launch you're already 'losing' on the DLC price front, as you can now buy the game at its current price and all the DLC and have paid less than someone who bought at launch.

Anyway, I only hope the 'bonus content' is not exclusive. That would be a right kick in the balls. Otherwise, the more people that get to play the game the better.

I think someone said it wouldn't affect the ME3 development and we don't know how they'll sort out the whole ME1 decisions problem yet so there's not much reason to worry about ME3 yet.

No, the free DLC is the "full Mass Effect 2 experience". The "hours of bonus content" is something new.

My guess is some additional content at the beginning of the game, to better introduce ME2. It better be.. If it's some real exclusive thing to the PS3 I'll be really pissed. I've been supporting this series from the beginning, if there's any significant content I can't get because it went to another platform, I'll be pissed.

The "bonus content" might simply be a short, interactive summary of the events that took place in the first game, prior to starting ME 2 on the PS3. It could possibly be presented as a flashback, allowing you to decide how the flashback went (what choices you made in Feros, Noveria, Virmire, etc.), so that PS3 players not only get brought up to speed with what went down in the first game, but also gives them the chance to manipulate some of the major parts in the story (i.e., who you saved, who you killed, who you romanced, etc.) so that their experience in ME 2 is similar to that on the 360 and PC versions.

This way decisions in the first ME would still be important in the third game (since PS3 players would still have the ability to make these decisions, albeit in a different manner).

And that's merely one way that Bioware could make ME 2 easier for PS3 players to get into; I'm sure there are far more creative ways that this could be done. At the end of the day, we don't really know exactly what Bioware is going to include in the PS3 version of ME2, but it's probably safe to say that they are going to include content that will try it's best at giving PS3 players a similar experience without having to play the first game.
