I just thought of something, partially off topic. Would ME3 be released before the next generation of game systems?

Why is this announcement a bad thing? Unless of course PS3 gets more free content that the rest of us had to pay for.

I'm assuming ME1 will somehow be downloadable for PS3 like it is on xbox live otherwise what's the point? ME is about making choices while playing an awesome game and if certain choices are default like it is if you start new for ME2 on xbox then I don't see why ME1 wasn't released first or both together. If ME1 isn't made available as well in one fashion or another soon then I'm afraid this attempt to expand ME to PS3 players will fail.

microsoft already said it aint hapening

While I believe that ME 1 will not be ported, we were also assured that ME 2 would not be ported by bioware.

It's pretty obvious at this point that Microsoft owns the publishing rights to ME1. If they didn't you would have seen both ME2 and ME1 announced for the PS3 today.

I completely agree with you, but there is still a sliver of a chance.

Usually, wouldn't the next systems be out soon. The Xbox 360 has had a long reign.

This worries me and here's why:

The PS3 does not have ME1, and many of the choices from ME1 have carried over to ME2, particularly the endings.  If you start a game in ME2, you get the default "mediocre" game: i.e., the council will be dead, you will no longer be a specter, and Wrex will be dead by default as well.  Because ME1 is not on the PS3, those default settings will be automatic and carry on to ME3.

Now here's the worrisome part: in the PS3 version of ME3, the council will always be dead, Shepard will have always lost specter status, and ME 1 romances will have never developed.  Therefore, if Bioware/EA decided to incorporate those factors into ME 3, they would only be present on the 360 and PC version of the game, not on the PS3 version.  Bioware/EA may decide it's a waste of money and resources to spend time developing parts of the game that will only show up on two systems, so they default everything for ME3 to match the PS3 game.  That is, the council and Wrex will end up dying at the beginning of ME3 even if you saved them, ME 1 romances will never be finished, etc.  With EA being in charge and the money making machine that it is, I can see this as a very real possibility, though I really hope it doesn't happen.

Long reign? It's been 5 years. It also isn't the number 1 console.

The thing is, when a game is exclusive to a certain platform, the experience is unique and more memorable than a lot of the multi-platform games. There are many exclusives out there and do you guys remember KOTOR? I do. One of the best games EVER. The experience was memorable because even though the second KOTOR was developed by another developer, it stayed with xbox and PC. The experience and the continuation of the story is UNIQUE to that franchise. There are many great multi-platformers out there that are incredible but the experience will soon be forgotten because a new one will ALWAYS come out. Think about Modern Warfare, when it came out the game was ****in' awesome, but now that the second one has been out people forgot about MW, it is now at the back of their mind. My point, is the Mass Effect universe stays more unique and memorable as an exclusive title. Again, that is my opinion. :(

They would either have to purchase the rights to the software of ME1 for 360 and or PC, or remake Mass Effect from scratch, meaning nothing from the SOFTWARE which Microsoft owns the rights to can be used, as far as story, and anything considered IP which BW and EA retains the rights for can be used again and again as many times as they want, although they couldnt call it Mass Effect, they would have to call it something like Mass Effect __________, because of it still being a game and in the same market.

I'm just glad I don't have a PS3, because if I hadn't played Mass effect 1 I wouldn't have touched Mass effect 2. HAHA sucks for those who have a PS3. Bioware That was just pure genius. Giving them a ME 2, but not the memory with ME 1. Talk about messing with the sony lovers. I guess this is bioware saying how much they hate PS fans. HAHA! You guys got ownd by the XBOX and PC crowds.

Sorry, I'm new to the Xbox. I have only been a Playstation gamer until ME 2. I thought that the PS3 was released over four years ago, with the Xbox coming Two years before that.

5 years has been the typical life span of consoles as of late. 5 years is kind of a long time lately for a console to keep going without another one being announced to come out within the next year

Well that's certainly what I would hope, but I'm not sure if they are going to put the extra time into ME2 to incorporate choices that don't show up on all consoles.  From a customer/fan service standpoint it makes sense, but from a money making standpoint it does not.  Since EA is famous for cutting corners to make money, and now that they hold Bioware's budget, I'm much more worried that it could end up that way.

Bioware would not let the default storyline become the base for all PS3 players. They must have some way of choosing what happened.
